First separate a focus problem from a geometry problem: if the whole image looks soft, try the PK52’s auto-focus; if the image is trapezoidal or not square, check projector placement and the projection surface before using keystone correction. A single blurry corner is different from both and may need Optoma support if basic checks do not help.
Identify what is wrong with the image
- The whole picture is soft: Treat this as a focus issue. Optoma lists auto-focus as a feature of the Photon Beam PK52.
- The picture is trapezoidal, crooked, or not square: Treat this as a geometry or alignment issue. Keystone correction can change the image shape, but it is not a focus adjustment.
- Only one corner or part of the picture is blurry: Check placement and focus first. The available PK52 materials do not establish a specific calibration fix for uneven focus across the frame.
Fix a soft image across the whole frame
Try the PK52’s auto-focus feature and check whether the image becomes sharper. Optoma’s product page says that auto-focus and auto-keystone automatically adjust the image; this is a product feature claim, not a guarantee that automatic setup will correct every image fault. The available manual copy includes focus among the display controls, but does not establish a verified manual-focus sequence for every PK52 unit or firmware version.

Correct a trapezoidal or non-square image
Check placement and the projection surface first
- Place the projector level and aim it squarely toward the screen or wall.
- Check that the projection surface is flat and that the projector is not positioned at an angle that makes the image visibly skewed.
- Recheck the image before applying digital correction. Optoma’s general support guidance recommends checking positioning and surface flatness before using keystone correction.
Use keystone or corner adjustment if needed
Optoma USA describes a top-to-bottom width mismatch as keystone distortion and recommends adjusting keystone until the image is square. A third-party-hosted copy of the PK52 manual lists Auto V Keystone, V Keystone, H Keystone, and Four Corner Adjustment under geometric correction. Menu names and behavior should be confirmed on the projector, since that manual copy is not hosted by Optoma and may not match every firmware or region.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- The manual copy says vertical and horizontal keystone correction reduce the image size slightly.
- It also says Auto V Keystone disables manual V/H Keystone and Four Corner Adjustment while active. If you need those manual controls, check the unit’s menu and switch off the automatic option as appropriate.
- The copy indicates geometric correction can be reset; consult the on-device menu or the manual available for your unit before relying on a particular reset path.
If one area stays blurry
If focus and projector placement checks leave one corner or section soft, do not assume keystone will fix it: keystone changes image geometry, not focus uniformity. The available model-specific material does not establish a PK52 calibration procedure or identify a particular internal fault for this symptom. Contact Optoma support if the uneven focus persists rather than attempting an internal repair.
