How to Finish ARC Raiders Quests When Extraction Fails

A failed extraction does not automatically prove that every quest step was erased. In ARC Raiders, Embark says the progress bars on quests indicate which progress may be lost when you fail to extract. After the raid, inspect the tracker, repeat only objectives that are missing or incomplete, and make a successful extraction when the wording requires you to bring an item out.

What a failed extraction can do to quest progress

The safest rule is to treat a failed extraction as a possible loss of selected quest progress, not as a guaranteed full reset. Embark’s Patch Notes 1.22.0 describe the intended behavior this way: “Progress bars now indicate what progress may be lost if you fail to extract.” The wording matters. It says may be lost, so the notes do not establish that every quest, every objective, or every item disappears after every failed run.

The game also does not document a universal recovery button that restores a lost objective without replaying it. Your reliable recovery method is therefore diagnostic: check what the tracker still shows, identify the missing requirement, complete that requirement again, and extract successfully if the objective depends on extraction.

Later updates can change quest behavior. The guidance here reflects Embark’s published notes available through October 13, 2026, especially Patch Notes 1.22.0 and the November Update 1.2.0. If the wording or indicators in your current build differ, use the current in-game tracker and current official notes as the authority.

Read the quest tracker before risking another run

Before launching a raid, open the quest tracker and read each objective literally. Do not rely on a memory of how another quest behaved. Look for the progress bars associated with the objective and note which bars are presented as vulnerable to a failed extraction. Embark added those indicators specifically to show what progress may be lost.

Record the state of each objective

A quick written or mental checklist prevents unnecessary repetition:

  • Objectives already shown as complete.
  • Objectives with partial progress and their current count.
  • Items the wording says to bring, deliver, or extract.
  • Steps that require several interactions or more than one task in a single round.
  • Any bar the game marks as at risk if extraction fails.

This is more useful than assuming the quest is either entirely safe or entirely reset. The official notes do not publish a persistence rule for every individual quest, so the tracker’s state is the evidence you can act on.

What the warning does and does not tell you

A vulnerable progress bar is a warning about possible loss, not a promise that loss will occur on every failed run. Conversely, a bar that remains filled after one failure should not be treated as proof that all similar objectives are permanently safe. Quest logic can differ by wording and objective type. Record the actual state of the quest you are playing rather than applying a blanket rule from a different mission.

Understand the difference between doing an objective and extracting its result

Quest wording can describe two separate events: performing an action in the raid and successfully leaving with the result. Finding an item is not necessarily the same as completing an objective that says to bring, deliver, or extract that item. This is a practical reading of extraction-based wording, not a claim that every quest uses identical logic.

What the objective says What to verify What to do after a failed extraction
Perform an action, such as interacting with a target Whether the tracker retained the interaction or its count Repeat it only if the tracker shows it as incomplete or reduced
Collect or obtain an item Whether the item is merely recorded in the raid or must leave with you Reacquire it if missing, then follow any extraction requirement in the wording
Bring, deliver, or extract an item Whether the item reached the required destination through a successful extraction Plan a new run around obtaining the item and extracting successfully
Several objectives or item collections in one round Whether every sub-objective registered after the run Check each line separately; do not assume one registered action completed the others

If the wording is ambiguous, the tracker’s completed state is more reliable than a general rule learned from another quest. Keep the distinction between an action completed in the raid and a result that has to survive extraction.

Examples of the distinction

Suppose a line says to interact with a location a certain number of times. The interaction itself may be the relevant event, so your first question after a failed extraction is whether its count remains. If another line says to bring a particular item to a destination, possession during the raid is only part of the attempt; the wording points to a successful extraction or delivery as the meaningful completion event. These examples explain how to read the text, not a universal promise about how every quest is saved.

What to do immediately after extraction fails

  1. Return to the quest tracker. Do this before starting another raid. Compare every objective and progress bar with the state you recorded before the failed extraction.
  2. Mark what changed. Identify counts that decreased, bars that emptied, items that are no longer credited, and objectives that remain incomplete. Do not reset the entire quest just because one line changed.
  3. Separate lost progress from unfinished progress. An objective can be unchanged because you never completed it, or because its progress was lost. Either way, only the incomplete requirement needs another attempt.
  4. Check for an extraction dependency. If the objective says to bring, deliver, or extract an item, finding it again is not enough; finish the run with a successful extraction unless the tracker clearly credits the step earlier.
  5. Repeat the smallest missing unit. Re-run the interaction, collection, or sub-objective that the tracker identifies. Avoid replaying completed steps unless the tracker has removed them.
  6. Verify the result before queueing again. After the next run, confirm that the relevant bar or objective changed. This prevents repeating a task when the real issue is an unfulfilled extraction condition or a tracking problem.

These steps follow what Embark’s progress-bar guidance supports without assuming that every quest uses the same save behavior.

How to plan the recovery run

A recovery run should be narrower than the original attempt. Its purpose is to restore a specific missing requirement and leave safely, not to redo every activity on the map.

When only an item is missing

Prioritize the item and the route to extraction. Avoid optional interactions that add risk but do not appear in the tracker. If the quest calls for an item to be brought or extracted, treat successful extraction as part of the objective, not as a separate convenience.

When an interaction count is missing

Repeat the exact interaction represented by the incomplete bar. If the tracker shows a count, confirm the count after the interaction and again after the raid. A failed extraction can make the bar’s state different from what you remember, so use the displayed value.

When several steps were attempted in one round

Check each sub-objective independently. A quest may credit one action while leaving another incomplete. Embark’s November Update 1.2.0, last updated November 13, 2025, says it fixed an issue that prevented completion of quests involving multiple objectives or item collections within a single round. That fix confirms that multi-step tracking has had a documented defect; it does not prove that every current tracking failure has the same cause.

Build the safest possible route

Once you know the missing requirement, remove unrelated risk from the plan. Carry only what you need for the objective, choose a route that gives you a realistic chance to reach an extraction point, and treat the successful exit as part of the task when the wording requires it. The goal is not to maximize activities in one raid; it is to make the tracker record one clearly defined result.

If the quest still does not register

Do not immediately conclude that the failed extraction erased the objective. Work through these checks:

  • Read the exact objective text again. Look for a requirement to extract, deliver, or complete multiple actions in one round.
  • Check every sub-objective. A main quest line can look unfinished because one item collection or interaction remains uncredited.
  • Confirm the run actually ended as a successful extraction. Merely possessing an item during the raid may not satisfy an extraction-based requirement.
  • Compare the tracker before and after a controlled attempt. Record the objective, its count, and the outcome so you can distinguish lost progress from a non-registering action.
  • Check official support and update notes. If the same objective fails to register after following its wording and extracting successfully, report the quest name, objective text, what you collected or interacted with, and how the run ended.

The cited Embark notes do not establish a single workaround that fixes every stuck tracker. Avoid relying on an unverified claim that restarting the whole quest, changing platforms, or repeating unrelated objectives will restore progress.

How to document a reproducible problem

Write down the quest title, exact line, starting count, action taken, item involved, extraction result, and ending count. If the issue happens again, that record shows whether the same condition consistently fails. Include your platform when contacting support. A precise report is more useful than describing the event only as a “reset,” because that word can refer to lost progress, an uncompleted extraction condition, or a tracking defect.

Failed extraction versus an Expedition reset

An ordinary failed extraction and an Expedition reset are different progression events. A failed extraction happens at the end of an individual raid and can put the progress indicated by the quest bars at risk. An Expedition is a separate, cycle-level progression decision that can reset quest progress according to that Expedition’s rules.

Embark’s announcement for “The 5th Expedition,” dated August 21, 2026, offered an option to opt out of resetting quest progress for that cycle and said the fifth Expedition would be the last until early 2027. Those details are specific to that Expedition and may be superseded by later announcements. Do not use an Expedition reset as an explanation for a single failed raid unless the game explicitly identifies the reset event.

Situation What it affects Best response
Failed extraction in a normal raid Progress the quest tracker indicates may be lost Inspect the tracker and repeat only missing requirements
Successful extraction after completing an item objective The objective’s extraction-dependent result, if the wording requires it Confirm the tracker credited the item or delivery
Expedition reset Quest progress under that Expedition’s cycle rules Read the current Expedition choice and announcement before opting in or out

A practical decision tree

Use this sequence whenever you return from a failed extraction:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Did the tracker still show the objective as complete? If yes, do not repeat it solely because the extraction failed.
  2. Is the objective now incomplete or reduced? Repeat only the missing action or collection.
  3. Does its wording require an item to be brought, delivered, or extracted? If yes, complete the item step and finish with a successful extraction.
  4. Did several actions occur in one round? Inspect each sub-objective because one may have registered while another did not.
  5. Did a successful extraction still fail to register the objective? Treat it as a possible tracking issue, document the details, and consult current official support or patch notes.

This decision tree keeps three states separate: progress that survived, progress that the tracker says is at risk or missing, and an objective that never registered correctly.

Common mistakes that waste another raid

Assuming every quest resets

Embark’s wording is limited to progress that may be lost. Restarting every completed step creates unnecessary risk and time loss.

Assuming nothing resets

The opposite assumption is also unsafe. If a progress bar identifies a vulnerable portion, verify it after the failed extraction before treating it as saved.

Stopping after finding the item

For objectives that require bringing or extracting an item, possession during the raid is not the same as a successful extraction. Read the quest’s actual wording and confirm the tracker after leaving.

Repeating the whole quest because one sub-objective is missing

Multi-objective quests can contain independently tracked steps. Re-run the incomplete line rather than discarding progress that remains credited.

Treating an anecdotal report as a rule

Players may describe a “quest progress reset,” but a report from another run is not an authoritative statement of how every quest works. Use Embark’s notes and your current tracker for the decision.

Version, platform, and support considerations

The official ARC Raiders site lists Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and GeForce NOW as available platforms. Quest behavior should be checked in the current game build on your platform; an older patch or a later update may not behave exactly like Patch Notes 1.22.0.

When contacting support, include the platform, quest name, exact objective text, progress before the raid, what happened during the run, whether extraction succeeded or failed, and the tracker state afterward. This information is more actionable than saying only that the quest “reset.”

Pre-raid and post-raid checklist

Before entering the raid

  • Read the full objective wording.
  • Note each progress bar and any indication that progress may be lost on failed extraction.
  • Identify which items must be brought, delivered, or extracted.
  • Separate optional tasks from the minimum actions needed for the quest.
  • Decide what evidence you will check after the raid: count, item credit, delivery state, or completed bar.

After a failed extraction

  • Open the tracker before starting another run.
  • Compare each count and bar with your pre-raid notes.
  • Repeat only objectives that are missing or incomplete.
  • For extraction-dependent items, plan the next run around a successful extraction.
  • Document a repeatable tracking failure and check current official notes or support.

Frequently asked questions

Does a failed extraction erase the entire quest?

Not necessarily. Embark says progress bars indicate what progress may be lost, not that every quest always resets completely. Check the tracker and repeat only what is missing.

Do I have to redo an objective that still shows complete?

No. If the tracker still marks it complete, there is no documented reason to repeat it solely because the extraction failed. Focus on objectives that became incomplete or lost their count.

Is finding a quest item enough?

Not when the wording requires you to bring, deliver, or extract it. In that case, treat a successful extraction as part of the objective and verify the credit afterward.

What if one objective completed but another did not?

Inspect each sub-objective separately. Embark fixed a prior issue involving multiple objectives or item collections within one round, so a multi-step quest should not be assumed to register as one indivisible action.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I restore lost progress without repeating the step?

Embark’s published notes do not document a universal restoration method. The supported practical approach is to repeat the missing requirement and extract successfully when required.

Is an Expedition reset the same as dying or failing extraction?

No. A failed extraction is a raid-level event, while an Expedition reset follows cycle-specific rules. The 5th Expedition announcement on August 21, 2026, included an opt-out for resetting quest progress during that cycle; later cycles may differ.

What should I send support if tracking is stuck?

Provide your platform, quest name, exact objective text, progress before the run, actions and items involved, whether extraction succeeded, and the tracker state afterward. Also note the game version or update context if available.

Bottom line for recovering a quest

A failed extraction can cost some quest progress, but it is not evidence that the entire quest always disappears. The progress bars are the game’s warning about what may be lost. Inspect them after every failed run, repeat only the objectives that no longer show as complete, and make a successful extraction when the quest requires the item or result to leave the raid. Keep Expedition resets separate from ordinary raid failures, and treat a persistent non-registering objective as a possible tracking issue rather than assuming a universal reset rule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a failed extraction erase the entire ARC Raiders quest?

No. Embark says progress bars show what progress may be lost, so inspect the tracker and repeat only objectives that became incomplete.

Do I need to repeat a step that still shows complete?

No. Do not repeat it solely because extraction failed; concentrate on missing or reduced progress.

Does finding an item complete an extraction quest?

Not necessarily. If the wording says bring, deliver, or extract the item, complete a successful extraction and verify the tracker.

What if a multi-objective quest does not register?

Check each sub-objective independently. A documented November 13, 2025 update fixed one issue involving multiple objectives or item collections in a single round.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can lost progress be restored without replaying the objective?

No universal restoration method is documented. Repeat the missing requirement and extract successfully when the wording requires it.

How is an Expedition reset different from a failed extraction?

A failed extraction affects a single raid, while an Expedition reset follows cycle-level rules. Read the current Expedition announcement and in-game choice.

The Bottom Line

Check the quest tracker after a failed extraction, repeat only progress that is missing, and successfully extract any item the objective says to bring or deliver. Do not confuse a raid failure with an Expedition reset.
