How to Find Your Way When Dragon’s Dogma 2 Has No Quest Markers

A missing quest marker in Dragon’s Dogma 2 can be intentional, not a bug. Some quests have no map marker, and others show or hide one as events unfold. Prioritize the quest, check its current instructions and requirements, then use pawn guidance or an in-game hint if you still need direction.

Why a quest marker may be missing

Capcom says some quests do not display a map marker, while other markers can appear or disappear over time. Reaching a location that is marked may not advance the quest if you have not met its requirements. The map therefore does not always show the exact next action.

Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 FAQ recommends checking the quest’s conditions and using available guidance rather than assuming a missing marker means the quest is broken.

Work through these checks in order

  1. Prioritize the quest

Open Pause Menu > Quest and set the quest you are trying to complete as the priority. This is the first step Capcom recommends, and it also enables you to request a hint at certain locations.

  2. Read the current objective and earlier instructions

Review the quest entry, including what it asks you to do now and any instructions given earlier. Look for prerequisites: if a marker is present but the objective does not progress when you arrive, a requirement may still be unmet. Return after completing the required task rather than repeatedly visiting the same location.

  3. Check whether a pawn can help

Look for guidance indicators beside the quest in the quest list. A blue marker identifies your Main Pawn; orange I and II markers identify the first and second support pawns. An indicated pawn may be able to lead you toward the objective or provide useful information.

  4. Search for an NPC at another place or time

Quest-related characters may move between locations or only appear at certain times of day. Check places relevant to the quest at different times instead of assuming the character remains where you last saw them. If you suspect the NPC has died, Capcom names the Vermund Charnel House and Battahl Morgue as places to look.

  5. Pay for an in-game hint

With the quest prioritized, visit the Diviner’s Salon or Reverent Shrine and pay for a hint. This is an optional paid in-game aid; try the quest instructions and pawn guidance first if you want to avoid the cost.

Keep time-sensitive quests in mind

Some quests can progress with time even when you are not taking part in them. The official Dragon’s Dogma 2 manual warns that managing multiple quests at once can make it harder to act in time. This applies to some quests, not all of them; if a quest seems urgent, consider focusing on it before spending time elsewhere.

When the general steps are not enough

Quest routes and prerequisites can differ, so there is no single route that solves every missing-marker situation. If you consult a walkthrough, search using the exact quest name and your current objective or stage. That makes it less likely you will follow directions for a later stage or a different point in the quest.
