In India, use the Election Commission of India (ECI) electoral search or Voters’ Services Portal to check that your name is on the electoral roll and find your assigned polling station. You can also use the Voter Helpline app, call 1950 with your area’s STD code, or follow ECI’s current SMS instructions. Your voter information slip can help with election-day logistics, but it is not valid as stand-alone voter identification.
Where do I vote?
Your polling station is assigned by the District Election Officer for your polling area; you do not choose a booth. Look up your polling details through an official ECI channel and confirm the location and poll date for your particular election. Both can vary by locality and election.

Start with the ECI electoral search or the Voters’ Services Portal. The portal offers “Search Your Name in Voter List” and “Know Your Polling Details.” The search supports an EPIC number or elector details, and the interface also offers mobile-number search.
How do I check whether my name is there in Electoral Roll?
Check your roll entry before election day. ECI says you can vote only if your name appears on the electoral roll; having a voter information slip alone does not establish that you are eligible to cast a vote.
#1 Best Overall
- Open the ECI electoral search or go to the Voters’ Services Portal.
- Choose a search option and enter your EPIC number or the requested personal details. If available, you can try mobile-number search.
- Check that the result is your record, then review the polling-station details shown for your election.
- Save or note the location and confirm the poll date using the current ECI service for your election.
Other official ways to look up your polling details
| Channel | Useful for | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Voter Helpline app | Searching the electoral roll and accessing a digital voter slip | Use the ECI Voter Helpline app. |
| Telephone | Getting help if a web lookup is difficult | Call 1950, adding your area’s STD code before the number, as directed in the ECI voting FAQ. |
| SMS | Checking roll status or polling-station information from a mobile phone | Use the current ECI instructions. The FAQ gives “ECI” followed by the EPIC number sent to 1950 as an example for checking roll status; verify the current instructions for a polling-location query rather than assuming the same format. |
What does a voter information slip do?
A Voter Information Slip (VIS) is intended to help with election-day logistics. In a press note dated 15 April 2026 about Phase-I elections in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, ECI described the slip as containing voter details, polling-station location, poll date and time, a snapshot of a polling-station map, do’s and don’ts, and a QR code to help match elector details. Those particulars and distribution arrangements relate to the elections covered by that note; check ECI’s current information for your own election.
ECI states: “Voter Information Slip shall not be accepted as a stand-alone identification document by a voter for the purpose of casting one’s vote in the poll.” Use it to find your assigned location and understand logistics, not as a substitute for identification. ECI’s separate requirement is that your name appears on the electoral roll.

Try another search
Check spelling variations and try a different official search route, such as EPIC-number search instead of elector details, or the reverse. The ECI search page and portal offer more than one way to find a record. If the website remains difficult to use, try the app or call 1950 with your STD code.

Do not assume your polling station changed just because your address did. ECI says a voter who has shifted residence should apply through Form 8 to the Electoral Registration Officer for the shifted place. The District Election Officer assigns polling stations. Check your roll entry and polling details after applying; the cited ECI information does not specify a processing time for a change.

If you need accessibility information
ECI’s Saksham app provides polling-station information and accessibility features, along with official contacts. Check which specific services are available in your locality.
Quick Recap
Before election day
- Confirm your name appears on the electoral roll.
- Record the polling station assigned to you and verify the date for your election.
- Use the slip as a location and information aid, not as stand-alone identification.
- If you recently moved or cannot find a record, check through an official ECI channel rather than assuming your details have updated.
