If you want a snugger fit, consider starting half a size below your usual Nike shoe size; if you have wide feet or prefer more room, start with your usual Nike size. Treat that as a starting point, then check the “Size & Fit” notes on the product page for your exact Air Force 1.
Which Air Force 1 size should you try?
Nike’s general recommendation is to consider going half a size down from your usual Nike size. For example, if you usually wear a Nike size 9, try an Air Force 1 in size 8.5 as a starting point. Nike’s guide is general advice, not a guarantee that the same adjustment will suit every foot or edition.

| Your priority | Nike’s general guidance | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Snugger, more secure fit | Consider half a size below your usual Nike size. | Nike says it may feel snug at first; leather styles can become roomier as they break in. |
| Roomier, relaxed fit | Choose your usual Nike size. | The roomy toe box may be more prone to creasing, according to Nike. |
| Wide feet | Stay with your usual Nike size; Nike says there is no need to size down. | Check the fit notes for the specific edition. |
| Relaxed slip-on feel | Nike mentions trying a full size down. | This is a preference-specific tip to reduce foot and heel movement, not Nike’s standard sizing recommendation. |
How to check the fit on your exact pair
- Start with your usual Nike size. Nike’s guidance compares Air Force 1 sizing with your usual Nike shoe size, not a universal size conversion.
- Open the exact product page and read “Size & Fit.” Nike notes that some editions fit differently because of their upper materials or midsole. The product-specific guidance matters more than assuming every Air Force 1 fits identically.
- Choose the starting size that matches your preference. Try half a size below your usual Nike size for a snugger feel, or your usual size for more room. If you have wide feet, Nike’s general advice is to stay with your usual size.
- Use the sizing chart for your market. Nike’s general guide does not provide a universal foot-measurement procedure or regional conversion table. Refer to the sizing chart and fit notes available in your market rather than guessing a conversion.
What can change how Air Force 1s feel?
Break-in and materials
Nike says leather Air Force 1 styles get roomier as they break in. A snug initial feel may therefore change with wear, but do not count on break-in to fix a shoe that is clearly too small or uncomfortable. Other editions may feel different because their upper materials or midsole differ.

Socks and insoles affect how much room is inside the shoe. Nike suggests thicker socks with a larger shoe for some people between sizes, or an insole if the shoe feels too roomy. These adjustments can change snugness, but they are not a substitute for choosing a suitable shoe size.

Laces and creasing
A roomy fit can leave more space around the toe, and Nike notes that this may make creasing more likely. Avoid over-tightening the laces to compensate, since Nike says that can cause excess creasing along the sides. Mid and low styles, as well as personal preference, can also affect which fit feels right.

Use half a size below your usual Nike size as the starting point for a snugger fit, and your usual Nike size for a roomier fit or if you have wide feet. Before deciding, check the specific model’s “Size & Fit” notes and Nike sizing chart for your market: Air Force 1 editions do not all necessarily fit alike.
