Start with the transition notice from the provider that now handles your service, then use its stated timing to find your new account number, sign in to the right billing portal, and check your first bill. Account numbers, payment instructions, and support contacts can change—but there is no universal rule for when they change or whether your payment method transfers. Verify the instructions for your service address through the provider’s current official channels.
Start with the notice for your account
Look in the email account associated with your old ISP account and check postal mail. A provider may send the transition details through either channel. Find the notice that identifies the successor provider and, if available, your service address or existing account. Do not assume that a message about an acquisition applies to every customer in a region or to every service the old company offered.

Keep your most recent old bill nearby. It can provide the previous account number and help you answer account-verification questions. If an unexpected message asks you to sign in or pay, go to the provider’s official site independently rather than relying on the message link. Use only a verified portal or contact channel, and do not share a one-time security code with an unsolicited caller.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFind the new account number and the right portal
Search the notice for a new account number, the date the account moves, instructions for creating or accessing an online account, and a support contact. The new number may arrive before the migration is complete, while the new portal may not accept the account until the move has happened. Follow the timing in your notice; do not assume the new portal is ready early.

If the number is missing or the portal will not recognize you, contact the successor ISP using the number or contact page on its official site or in a current notice. Ask whether the account has migrated and which billing system currently handles it. The provider may be able to locate it using your old account number, service address, or account-holder details. Share sensitive information only through a verified channel.
Check the first bill from the successor provider
Once the account has moved, treat the first new invoice as the reference for the new account number and payment instructions. Compare it with your notice and check:

Provider-managed autopay, bank bill pay, and payments arranged through another company are not interchangeable. An ISP might transfer its own autopay but require a customer to update a bank’s payee details or account number. Check the new bill and transition notice for the rule that applies to your payment method. Do not cancel, recreate, or leave a payment arrangement unchanged based only on what another ISP did.

If you pay by mail, use the remit-to address printed on the applicable new bill rather than relying on an old address. If you use a bank or third-party service, check whether the payee, account number, or mailing address needs to change. Confirm the effective date of any update so you do not accidentally pay the wrong account or send a payment to an outdated address.
Which support number should you call during the transition?
Use the support contact in the current notice or on the successor provider’s official site. Some providers keep an existing phone number in service during a transition; others direct customers to a new team or online account setup. If you are unsure whether the move is complete, ask which support channel and billing system currently handle your account.

Provider examples show why checking the current instruction matters. Astound’s historical transition FAQ for former WOW! and Broadstripe customers in specified areas told them to keep using their existing call-in numbers until the transition was complete. Highline’s acquisition FAQ, by contrast, listed customer care at 888-212-0054 for the transition it described. These are examples of provider-specific instructions, not current universal contact details; confirm the number for your own account.

| Provider and situation | What its published instructions said | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| USI billing-platform migration | USI said it would send the new account number before migration by email if it had an address on file, or by physical letter otherwise. It said the old account number or last name could help support locate the account; the new number was used for the new portal after migration. Its instructions said the first new invoice would show a changed payment address, provider-managed autopay would transfer automatically, and bank bill-pay address details needed updating. | This was a billing-platform migration, not an acquisition. The cited passage gave a September-to-November migration window without a calendar year. USI also said the platform move itself would not change internet service, though the billing date might shift by a day or two and tax calculations could differ. |
| Astound transition for former WOW!/Broadstripe service areas | Astound described a new bill format, payment address, account number, and security PIN for customers in the named affected areas. Its FAQ said communications would continue under the WOW! brand during the transition and Astound-branded statements would begin in the second quarter of 2022. | The areas and timing were specific to that historical transition: WOW! service areas in Illinois and Indiana, and the Broadstripe-powered-by-WOW! broadband network in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The 2022 timing is not a current instruction for other customers. |
| Highline acquisition transition | Highline’s FAQ told affected customers to set up a new customer account in its secure billing portal and enter credit or debit card information. It listed customer care at 888-212-0054 and said the current monthly service and price would remain the same for the transition described. | These instructions and the number apply to the Highline transition described by that FAQ, not to other providers or accounts. |
| Spectrum Business account-number change | Spectrum Business said its provider-managed Auto Pay would update automatically. For bank, card, or other third-party payment arrangements, it told customers to provide the new account number. | This distinction is for Spectrum Business; it does not establish how residential ISP payments or another provider’s arrangements work. |
If the account number or bill still cannot be found
- Check the email address tied to the old account and your postal mail for the migration notice.
- Confirm the migration date and whether the notice says to keep using the old portal or payment method until then.
- Try the successor provider’s official portal only when its instructions say the account has moved.
- Contact the provider through a verified official channel. Ask whether it can search by the old account number, service address, or account-holder details, and ask which billing system currently holds the account.
- Save the provider’s explanation and the first new bill so you can refer to the confirmed account details later.
