Your Epic Games display name is the readable name attached to your Epic account. Find it by signing in at epicgames.com and checking the Display Name field. To find the separate, permanent account ID in Fortnite, open Settings → Account and Privacy from the lobby and hover over Epic Games account ID. On PlayStation and Xbox, the name shown in the lobby may instead be your console gamertag.
Know which Fortnite name or number you need
Epic uses several identifiers that can appear similar but serve different purposes. Choosing the right one first prevents you from sending the wrong detail to a friend, support agent, tournament organizer, or account-recovery form.

The account ID is not the name other players see. It is an internal account identifier, so copy it exactly when Epic Support or an account form requests it.
Use this quick decision guide
- If someone wants to add or identify you as an Epic friend, start with the Epic Games display name in your account settings.
- If a support form specifically asks for an Epic Games account ID, provide the value revealed in Account and Privacy, on the Epic account page, or in the launcher.
- If someone asks for your PlayStation or Xbox name, provide the relevant console gamertag. It may not be the same as your Epic display name.
- If you are unsure which account is connected, compare the email, display name and entries under Linked Accounts before submitting anything.
These are separate pieces of information. A display name can be readable and player-facing, while the account ID is a fixed identifier assigned at account creation. A console gamertag belongs to the linked console account.

Find your Epic Games display name
Use the Epic Games website
- Open epicgames.com and sign in with the account you use for Fortnite.
- Open your account area and go to the account settings page.
- Locate the field labeled Display Name. The text in that field is your Epic Games display name.
This is the most dependable way to verify the name because it identifies the Epic account itself, not merely the device or console currently running Fortnite. If you have more than one Epic account, check the email address and linked accounts shown on the same account before recording the name.
Copy the spelling exactly, including capitalization and any numbers or other characters. When a friend or form asks for the Epic display name, use the value in this field rather than a nickname shown in a party panel or a name you remember from an older account.
Recognize it in Fortnite on PC, Nintendo or mobile
Epic’s display-name guidance says Fortnite on PC uses the Epic Games display name. Nintendo also uses the Epic Games display name, and Epic’s linked-account guidance places mobile with the platforms that show the Epic account name. If the lobby name on one of these platforms differs from the value in your account settings, confirm that you signed into the intended Epic account rather than a second account.

Understand the PlayStation and Xbox exception
Epic states that the display name shown while playing on PlayStation or Xbox is the PlayStation or Xbox gamertag. That means a console lobby can show a name that does not match the Display Name field on epicgames.com. The difference does not automatically indicate a broken account link.
To inspect the names attached to connected platforms, sign in to your Epic account, open account settings, and review Linked Accounts. That page is useful when you need to establish which PlayStation or Xbox profile is connected to the Epic account you are viewing.
For example, you can use the Epic website to record the Epic display name, then look at the console profile to record the gamertag. Keep the two labels separate in your notes so a support agent or friend knows which one you mean.

Find your Epic account ID inside Fortnite
Epic’s dedicated account-ID instructions use the lobby menu. The ID is displayed as a value beside the label, rather than as your public player name.
- Launch Fortnite and wait for the lobby to load.
- Open the main menu by selecting the profile icon.
- Choose Settings.
- Open the Account and Privacy section.
- Move the pointer over Epic Games account ID. Epic says the ID appears to the right of that label.
- Record the entire value, preserving every letter and number. If you are entering it into a form, copy it character for character instead of retyping from memory.
On a controller, use the on-screen cursor or focus movement to highlight the account-ID entry so that its value appears. The exact cursor behavior can vary by platform, but the relevant destination remains Settings → Account and Privacy → Epic Games account ID.
The account ID is assigned when the Epic account is created. Epic says it cannot be changed and is not displayed to other users, so do not substitute a visible player name when a support form requests this identifier.
Alternative official ways to find the account ID
From your Epic account page
- Sign in at epicgames.com.
- Open Account.
- In Account Information, locate the account ID.
This route is useful when Fortnite is updating, unavailable, or installed on a different device. Confirm that the account page belongs to the Epic account linked to your Fortnite profile before using the number. If you switch between accounts in the same browser, sign out fully or verify the displayed email and linked platforms first.
From Epic Games Launcher
- Open the Epic Games Launcher and sign in.
- Select the Friends icon.
- Select your profile icon in the Friends panel.
- Choose Show Account ID.
The launcher method is practical on a computer where Fortnite is not currently running. It also gives you an independent way to check that the number shown in the game matches the account you intended to use.
Use launcher data files only as a technical fallback
Epic also documents locating account IDs in launcher data files on Windows and Mac. This is a specialist fallback for cases where the normal account page, game menu and launcher profile are inaccessible. File locations and data structures can change, so use Epic’s current support instructions for the operating system rather than deleting, editing or renaming launcher files. For most players, the in-game, website or launcher-profile methods are safer and faster.

Why your Fortnite name may not match Epic account settings
You are playing on PlayStation or Xbox
The console platform can supply the lobby name. Compare the name shown in Fortnite with the console profile and then inspect Linked Accounts on the Epic account website. Do not change account details solely because the two names differ; first establish which account and platform profile are connected.

You signed into a different Epic account
Epic accounts can be confused when a player uses separate email, console, Nintendo, or social sign-in credentials. Sign out and sign back in with the credential that owns the Fortnite progress you are checking. On the account page, verify the email, Display Name and linked-platform entries together. A matching display name by itself is not enough to prove that you have the intended account.
The menu wording has changed
Epic can adjust menu labels and layouts as Fortnite updates. Look for the account or privacy section and the entry that explicitly says Epic Games account ID. If you cannot expose the value by hovering, use the website’s Account Information page or the Epic Games Launcher’s Show Account ID command instead.
You are looking at a different kind of ID
A console account ID, an invoice ID and an Epic account ID are not interchangeable. The request’s wording matters. For “Epic Games account ID,” use the value from Fortnite’s Account and Privacy page, the Epic account information page, or the launcher’s Show Account ID command. For a purchase issue, an invoice ID may be the relevant separate detail.
Use the ID when identifying or recovering an account
Epic’s support guidance lists several details that may help locate an account: the Epic account ID, an invoice ID, the email address, the current or most recent display name, and the name or ID of a linked account. An account ID or invoice ID can give Epic a more precise lookup than a display name alone.

- Copy the complete Epic account ID from Fortnite, the website or the launcher.
- Write down the current or most recent Epic display name exactly as shown.
- Use the email address associated with the Epic account, if you can access it.
- Record the relevant PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo linked-account name or ID.
- Keep an invoice ID available if the issue involves a purchase.
These details identify an account; they do not replace the account password or security verification. Never send a password, authentication code or payment-card security code as part of an ordinary identification request.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Sending the console gamertag as the Epic name: On PlayStation and Xbox, the lobby can show the console name instead.
- Sending the display name as the account ID: The ID is a separate value shown beside its own label.
- Using a remembered old name: Read the current Display Name field rather than relying on memory.

- Changing account settings to fix a normal mismatch: A PlayStation or Xbox name difference can be expected.
- Posting the ID publicly: Epic says the ID is not shown to other users, so provide it only to the service that requested it.
Troubleshooting checklist
The account-ID value is not visible
- Confirm that you opened Account and Privacy, not a different Settings category.
- Highlight or hover directly over Epic Games account ID; the value is shown beside the label.
- Return to the lobby and reopen Settings if the panel did not load correctly.
- Use the Epic website’s Account Information page as the immediate alternative.
You cannot sign in to the website
Use the account provider that originally created or linked the Epic account, such as the relevant console sign-in, rather than creating a new Epic account. If you still cannot establish ownership, gather the recovery details listed above and follow Epic’s account-recovery process.

You found several different IDs
Check that each value came from the same Epic account. Console account IDs, invoice IDs and Epic account IDs are different pieces of information. For a request that specifically asks for the Epic Games account ID, use the value shown in Fortnite’s Account and Privacy page, Epic account information, or the launcher’s Show Account ID command.
You need to share the display name with another player
Share the exact Epic display name from account settings when the other person is adding or identifying your Epic account. If you are on PlayStation or Xbox, also explain that the lobby may show your console gamertag, so the recipient does not mistake it for the Epic name.
Privacy and safe handling
Epic describes the account ID as a unique identifier and says it is not displayed to other users. Treat it as account-identification information: provide it only through the support or service process that requested it, and avoid posting it with your email address, purchase records or other identifying details in a public forum.
Your display name is intended for player-facing use, but it can still help someone identify your account when combined with other details. Use the smallest amount of information needed for the task, and keep account credentials and verification codes private.

- Decide whether the form wants the readable Epic display name, the permanent Epic account ID, or a console gamertag.
- For the display name, read the Display Name field on the Epic account page.
