How to Find, Wishlist, and Follow Upcoming Indie Games on Xbox (2026 Guide)

The most reliable way to discover upcoming indie games on Xbox is to combine four official surfaces: the weekly Indie Selects Hub for curation, ID@Xbox Demo Fest for playable early versions, ID@Xbox showcases for announcements, and Xbox’s weekly release calendar for near-term dates. When you find a game, open its current Store listing while signed in and use the wishlist or follow control that the live interface provides. Treat every announced date as provisional until the Store page confirms it.

Start with the Indie Selects Hub

Indie Selects is Xbox’s recurring editorial collection for independent games. It is the best first stop when you want handpicked recommendations rather than a complete list of every announced title. Xbox describes the hub as a fresh curated indie collection with four themed spotlights that rotate every week. The rotation gives you a reason to return regularly without waiting for a major showcase.

Open the official hub at Xbox Indie Selects, or find the Indie Selects collection in the Xbox Store. The web hub is useful for browsing on a phone or computer; the Store collection is convenient when you are already on an Xbox console or using Xbox on PC.

What the weekly spotlights are good for

  • Fast discovery: the editorial selection narrows a very large catalog to a manageable set of indie projects.
  • Different entry points: the four themed spotlights let you browse by the type of experience highlighted that week rather than by a generic “new releases” list.
  • Repeatable routine: ID@Xbox says the spotlights rotate weekly, so checking on Wednesday is a practical habit. The quoted schedule comes from its August 2026 Indie Selects announcement.
  • Store follow-through: each title can lead you to a live Store listing, where you can inspect platform support, availability, a release estimate and account controls.

Indie Selects is curated, not exhaustive. A game absent from this week’s hub has not necessarily been canceled or delayed; it may simply not be in the current editorial rotation. Use the other routes below to find projects that have not appeared in the weekly collection.

Use Demo Fest to play games before launch

When you want hands-on evidence instead of trailers, look for an ID@Xbox Indie Selects Demo Fest collection in the Xbox Store. The June 2026 Demo Fest offered more than 30 demos across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Xbox on PC. A concentrated event like this is one of the quickest ways to sample several upcoming indie projects in one sitting.

How to evaluate a Demo Fest title

  1. Open the Demo Fest collection in the Xbox Store during the event or while its individual listings remain available.
  2. Read the listing to confirm whether the demo is offered on your device: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC, or more than one of those platforms.
  3. Install and play the demo, then note what the build actually demonstrates: controls, performance, accessibility options, interface and the type of content included.
  4. Return to the game’s full Store page to check its current release information and use the available wishlist or follow control while signed in.
  5. Before relying on the date or assuming the demo will remain available, recheck the listing. Demo access and regional availability can change.

Why a demo is not a final product

ID@Xbox cautioned in the June 2026 announcement that the event’s demos were early looks at games still in development. Final versions may differ at launch, including by country, while developers continue polishing their work. A demo can therefore answer questions about the game’s basic feel, but it cannot guarantee final performance, content, features, rating, price or launch availability.

Use the demo as a screening tool: keep a game on your radar if its concept and controls appeal to you, but verify the final Store listing later. This avoids treating an event build as a promise about the finished release.

Examples from the June 2026 event

The announcement named or featured games including Akatori, Canvas of Thoughts, Charlatan, Kooeh: A Timeless Delight, Order Automatica, Pieced Together, Pit of Goblin, Souls of Bombarika, Starlit World, Surfpunk, The Slormancer, Treetopians and Wrap House Simulator. These are dated examples from that 2026 event, not a guarantee that every demo or game is still listed. Search each title in the current Xbox Store before planning a purchase or installation.

Track announcements with ID@Xbox showcases

Showcases are the broadest discovery route in this workflow. The April 2026 ID@Xbox Spring Showcase combined indie world premieres, release-date announcements and news about upcoming Game Pass titles. It also highlighted Xbox Play Anywhere support at launch for Deep Dish Dungeon, Echo Generation 2 and Screenbound.

What to record when you watch

  • Exact title: write it down as shown; similarly named games can lead to different Store pages.
  • Announcement type: distinguish a world premiere, a release-window update, a confirmed date and a Game Pass announcement.
  • Platforms: note whether the presentation mentions Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC or a combination.
  • Play Anywhere: if the presentation explicitly identifies Xbox Play Anywhere support, record that feature rather than assuming every Xbox-and-PC release includes it.
  • Next verification point: search the title in the Store after the presentation and again as launch approaches.

A showcase is an announcement source, not a permanent schedule. A trailer can introduce a game long before its Store listing has a firm date, and later plans can change. Keep a note of the showcase date so you know when an announcement was made, but let the current listing determine what you can install or buy now.

Seventeen announced games and what that number means

The April 2026 ID@Xbox material referred to 17 newly announced games coming to Xbox. That figure describes the group announced in that presentation; it is not a count of all upcoming indie games on Xbox, nor does it mean that every title shares the same launch date, platform or availability. Use it as a signpost to the showcase’s slate, then evaluate each game separately.

Check the weekly Next Week on Xbox release calendar

Once a game is close to release, Xbox’s Next Week on Xbox series is a practical way to scan near-term launches. The series covers games coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC and Game Pass. It aggregates many releases in one place, which is useful when you want to know what is arriving over the next several days rather than search for a single announcement.

How to use a weekly release post

  1. Open the newest Next Week on Xbox post and find the game title in the list.
  2. Read the platform and service wording attached to that title. “Xbox” alone does not tell you whether a particular entry is for console, PC, Game Pass or more than one.
  3. Follow the linked game profile or Store page from the post.
  4. Compare the date shown on that current listing with the date in the article. Use the live Store information when they differ.
  5. Check again immediately before release if the date affects a preorder, an installation plan or a time-limited event.

Xbox editor Will Fulton labels the series with the qualification “release dates subject to change.” That wording matters even when a date appears in an official weekly post. Delays, regional timing and Store updates can alter what you see, so do not copy an old calendar date into a reminder without a final check.

How to wishlist or follow a game from its Store page

The account action happens on the game’s current Store listing, not on a showcase video or a general article. The exact control label and notification behavior can vary by the signed-in Xbox interface, and the available official documentation does not establish one stable cross-platform label. The safe procedure is to use the control that the live listing presents rather than assume a particular alert will be sent.

Console procedure

  1. Open the Xbox Store on your console.
  2. Search for the game by its exact title, or open the Store link reached from Indie Selects, a Demo Fest entry, a showcase item or a release-calendar post.
  3. Confirm that the page is the intended game by checking its artwork, developer or publisher name, platform information and description.
  4. Sign in to the Microsoft account on which you want the saved item.
  5. Look around the title’s primary action area for the current wishlist or follow control, then select it.
  6. Reopen the page or your account’s saved-game area to confirm that the state changed. If the control is unavailable, the title may not yet support that action, may be region-limited or may have changed status.

Web or Xbox on PC procedure

  1. Open the game’s official Xbox Store listing in a browser or in the Xbox app on PC.
  2. Sign in before attempting to save the title; an unsigned session may hide account-specific controls.
  3. Check the platform badges and region-specific availability shown on the page.
  4. Select the current wishlist or follow control presented by that listing.
  5. Verify the saved state by returning to the listing or the account view that displays your saved games.

What you can and cannot assume about notifications

Saving a game is useful for keeping it in your personal radar, but do not promise yourself a particular email, console pop-up or release-day alert unless the live interface explicitly offers and enables that option. Notification settings and labels can change between console, web and PC surfaces. If a date is important, keep your own calendar reminder and perform a Store check close to launch.

A practical weekly routine for following upcoming indies

You do not need to monitor every Xbox channel every day. A simple routine keeps discovery broad while making the Store the final authority.

  1. Wednesday: scan Indie Selects. Review the new collection and its four rotating spotlights. Open Store pages for titles that fit your preferred genre, play style or platform.
  2. During a Demo Fest: sample strategically. Start with the demos whose descriptions answer a question you actually have, such as control feel or performance on your device. Keep notes on games worth following.
  3. After a showcase: separate facts from anticipation. Record whether each item was a premiere, a date announcement, a Game Pass mention or a Play Anywhere confirmation. Do not treat those categories as interchangeable.
  4. Each week: read Next Week on Xbox. Use it to identify imminent launches, then open the linked Store page rather than relying on the calendar text alone.
  5. Before acting: verify the live listing. Check date, platform, region, edition and current wishlist or follow state. This is the point at which you decide whether to install, buy, preorder where available or simply keep watching.

How to handle dates, regions and platform differences

Release dates are moving targets

An announced date is a plan made at a particular time. The explicit “release dates subject to change” qualification in Next Week on Xbox applies even to a near-term list. If a game is important to your schedule, verify it twice: when you first save it and again shortly before launch.

Country availability can change what you see

ID@Xbox specifically warned that Demo Fest builds could differ by country, including whether a demo remains available. Store pages can therefore show different prices, dates, ratings, languages or availability depending on the account region. Do not infer worldwide availability from a listing or event video viewed in another country.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Console and PC are not automatically identical

The June Demo Fest covered Xbox consoles and Xbox on PC, while the April showcase called out Xbox Play Anywhere for three particular games. Treat Play Anywhere as a title-specific feature that must be stated for that game; do not assume that every indie release listed on both Xbox and PC includes shared entitlements or saves.

  • PERFECT GIFT: Great as a gift for a friend or yourself. Xbox Gift Cards are easy to use, never expire, and give the freedom to pick the gift they want. Enjoy more ways to play without a credit card attached to your Microsoft account.

Game Pass is a separate availability question

A showcase may identify an upcoming Game Pass title, but that does not make every announced indie game a Game Pass release. Look for the service wording on the current Store page or the relevant Xbox announcement, and confirm the edition and platform before making plans.

Troubleshooting when a game or control is missing

The game appears in a video but not in Search

  • Try the exact spelling from the announcement, including punctuation.
  • Open the original showcase or Indie Selects link and follow its Store path instead of relying only on text search.
  • Check again later; a premiere can precede the creation of a public Store listing.

The wishlist or follow control is not visible

  • Confirm that you are signed in to the intended account.
  • Open the full game listing rather than a search-result preview or a demo-only page.
  • Check whether the title is available in your country and on your platform.
  • Try the Store on the other supported surface (console, web or Xbox on PC) because labels and layouts can differ.
  • If no control appears anywhere, save the Store URL or title in your own reminder system and check it later; do not assume an unavailable control means the game is canceled.

The date differs between an article and the Store

Use the current Store listing as your operational check, then look for a newer Xbox or developer announcement explaining the change. Keep the older date only as historical context, not as the date you plan around.

A demo is unavailable after you saw it advertised

Demo Fest availability can be temporary and country-dependent. Search the full game listing, confirm your account region and platform, and remember that the event announcement warned that early demos and final versions may differ. A missing demo does not by itself establish that the full game will not launch on Xbox.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Using the 2026 examples without losing track of the present

The 2026 ID@Xbox announcements are useful models for the workflow: a June Demo Fest supplied more than 30 playable samples; an April showcase introduced 17 newly announced games; and Indie Selects continued its four-spotlight weekly rotation. They are time-stamped examples, not a permanent catalog. Games such as Akatori, Surfpunk and Wrap House Simulator should be checked individually in the current Store, just like any title discovered today.

One additional example illustrates why offer details belong on the game’s own page. Xbox Wire and GD Studio announced a 20% preorder discount for Whisper of the House in 2026. That was a specific offer tied to that title and time; it should not be generalized to other indie games or assumed to remain active. If you encounter a similar promotion, read its dates, region and edition terms on the live listing before acting.

The shortest reliable answer

For curated discovery, check Indie Selects every week. For playable previews, use Demo Fest when an event is running. For the earliest announcements, watch ID@Xbox showcases. For releases arriving soon, read Next Week on Xbox. In every case, finish on the game’s current Store page: verify your platform and country, save the title with the live wishlist or follow control if available, and recheck the date before you rely on it.
