Samsung refrigerators use different filters, so brand name, appearance, or a broad family name alone is not enough to confirm fit.
Find your refrigerator’s model number

Open the refrigerator and look for the model-number label on the inner right wall. Samsung’s Canada guidance identifies this location for the refrigerator styles covered by its finder.

Copy the complete model number, including any letters, numbers, and suffixes. Use it in Samsung Canada’s filter finder and follow the compatible-filter result. Samsung notes that different refrigerator models may use different filters.

If you cannot find the appliance model number, read the model or part number printed on the installed cartridge. Confirm it against the refrigerator’s user manual or Samsung’s model-specific lookup before ordering.

The manual is also the best source for your refrigerator’s filter location, removal direction, and indicator-reset method; these can vary by model.
Which Samsung filter types might you see?
Samsung Canada’s guide identifies three common internal-filter families: HAF-CIN, HAF-QIN, and HAF-CU1. They have different shapes and are not interchangeable simply because they are Samsung filters. Your refrigerator model determines the correct cartridge.
Filter names can also differ by market. Samsung UK lists regional versions including HAFEX/EXP, HAFIN1/EXP, HAF-QIN/EXP, HAF-CIN/EXP, and HAFIN2/EXP. Treat those as UK-market references, not a universal list; verify the part for the appliance’s region and exact model using Samsung’s UK filter guidance and your manual.
Replace an internal filter
Follow the instructions for your exact refrigerator if they differ from the general procedures below. Samsung Canada’s steps cover HAF-CIN, HAF-QIN, and HAF-CU1 internal filters.
For HAF-CIN and HAF-QIN

Shut off the refrigerator’s water supply. Dispense water until the flow stops to relieve pressure.

Locate the cartridge. Turn the old filter counterclockwise to unlock it, then pull it straight out.

Remove the protective cap from the new cartridge. Insert it into the housing and turn clockwise until it locks; align the lock marking with the housing indicator.

Restore the water supply. Reset the filter indicator using the method for your model, then flush the system as described below.
For HAF-CU1

Shut off the water supply and dispense water until flow stops.

Turn the existing filter left to unlock it and pull it down.

Insert the replacement upward and turn it right to lock. Align the filter notch with the housing arrow.

Restore water, reset the indicator according to the manual, and flush the system.
Cartridge orientation and housing design vary. If these directions do not match your refrigerator, stop and use its manual rather than forcing the filter.

The reset control depends on the refrigerator. Samsung Canada says that on most models, holding Alarm, Water Filter, or Ice/Water for three seconds resets the indicator. Use the button that applies to your control panel; if that does not work, check the manual for the exact model.
After installing a covered internal filter, Samsung Canada recommends flushing for about seven minutes, or dispensing 10–12 large glasses, and discarding that water. Follow your model’s manual if its flushing instructions differ.

If the replacement filter will not fit

Relieve pressure. Shut off the water supply and dispense until the flow stops before trying again.

Recheck the match and orientation. Compare the cartridge’s printed part number with the old filter, model lookup, and manual. Check that it is seated in the correct direction.

Do not force it. A cartridge that resists may be the wrong filter or may encounter a housing-lock issue.
Samsung US documents a HAF-CU1 housing issue associated with a design change from a two-rib lock to a three-rib lock. Samsung says the newer design retains the same model and part number while providing a tighter fit and better seal. In the documented case, the housing may need to be fully unlocked: use the old filter to turn the lock farther left while holding the filter into the housing, then remove it and install the replacement. If the old filter is unavailable or the procedure does not resolve the problem, Samsung directs users to request service. See Samsung US’s HAF-CU1 fit guidance.
When to replace the filter
Samsung Canada recommends replacing the water filter every six months. The filter indicator is a reminder, but the interval can vary with local water quality and how often the dispenser is used. Check your manual and replace the cartridge that is compatible with your refrigerator model.
