Measure both feet, use the longer foot to find your size in Nike’s chart, and then check the fit note on the exact retro shoe’s current product page. If your foot length falls between chart sizes, Nike recommends choosing the larger size. Model-specific guidance can differ: Nike says the Cortez Leather (DM4044-105) fits small and recommends going up half a size.
Measure your feet and use Nike’s chart
- Measure both feet. Measure heel to the tip of your longest toe, then use the longer foot’s measurement.
- Compare foot length with Nike’s size chart. Use the chart for the relevant sizing system and shoe category; do not substitute the number printed on a shoe label for your measurement.
- Choose the larger size if you fall between chart sizes. Nike’s U.S. men’s footwear chart advises sizing up between sizes. See Nike’s men’s footwear size chart.
The CM marking on a shoe box or label is not the same as your foot length in centimeters. Nike treats these as different measurements, so match your measured foot length to the chart rather than choosing a shoe by assuming the label’s CM number is an exact foot-length value.

Nike Cortez Leather
For the U.S. Nike Cortez Leather men’s shoe, style DM4044-105, Nike’s product listing says: “Fits small; we recommend ordering a half size up.” That is guidance for this listed model, not a blanket rule for Nike retro running shoes. Check the current Cortez Leather product page for its fit note and available sizes.

- Wide collar opening captures the proportions of '70s running style.
- Single-piece injected midsole adds flexibility.
- Flex grooves in outsole for all-day comfort.

Other retro running shoes
Do not automatically apply the Cortez half-size-up recommendation to an Internationalist, Waffle Trainer, Pegasus retro, or another silhouette. Nike advises checking the size guide associated with the product listing. Its UK help page explains how to find size and fit guidance: How Do I Find the Right Size and Fit?
Consider width separately from length
A length size that matches your foot may still feel tight across the forefoot. Nike’s U.S. men’s footwear chart lists approximately 6.35 mm more toe-box girth for wide shoes than regular width, and approximately 12.7 mm more for extra-wide shoes. These figures describe width-category differences; they are not instructions to change shoe length or convert between sizes.

- Wide collar opening captures the proportions of '70s running style.

- Flex grooves in outsole for all-day comfort.

The Cortez product page describes a wider toe area but does not provide a numeric width measurement. Compare width availability and the shoe’s stated fit on its own listing rather than assuming all Nike retro models have the same toe-box shape.

Before you commit to a size
- Check the product page for the exact model and version, including its own fit recommendation and size guide.
- Use measured foot length—not a shoe-label CM value—to select a chart size.
- Check whether the model offers a width option that suits your foot.
- When possible, try the shoe on and confirm the seller’s return terms in your region. Fit can vary across products even when they share a listed size; Nike Brazil notes this in its size guidance: Como identificar o meu tamanho?
