Start with the label on the receiver’s rear panel: it may list the model and serial number. Record the complete model number, then use it to find the matching manual in Yamaha’s official library. Yamaha’s published material reviewed here does not establish a general method for decoding an AV receiver’s serial number into a manufacturing date, so contact Yamaha support if you need the date.
Find the model and serial number on the receiver
- Turn the receiver off. Inspect the rear chassis and rear-panel labels from outside the unit. Do not open the cabinet to identify it.
- Look for model and serial fields. Yamaha’s RX-V765 manual says the serial number is on the rear of the unit, while the RX-V459 manual places it on the rear panel. - Write down the full model number exactly as printed, including letters, digits, and suffixes. Record the serial number separately. Avoid including the serial number in public photos or posts.
Confirm the model and find its manual
Search Yamaha’s official manual library by model name or keyword. Open the result and check that the model marking in the manual matches the one on your receiver before following model-specific instructions. Exact letters, digits, and suffixes matter when identifying the applicable documentation.

Can you determine the manufacturing date from the serial number?
The Yamaha sources reviewed do not establish a universal AV receiver serial-number decoding rule for finding a manufacturing date. Do not infer a date from an undocumented code pattern. Contact Yamaha support with the complete model and serial number and ask whether they can identify the unit’s manufacturing date.

If you need a printed manual or repair help
Yamaha describes a printed replacement-manual ordering format: “O M” followed by the model number without a dash. Check Yamaha’s parts and manuals guidance for the applicable ordering information. For repair, Yamaha advises against attempting work unless you are specifically qualified and have the proper background and training; consult a qualified service professional.
