There is no single verified nationwide ranking that proves one internet service provider is fastest for every home. The right choice depends on which providers serve your address, how speed is measured, and whether you care most about downloads, uploads, or latency.
Which ISP is fastest?
AT&T said on February 23, 2026, that Ookla named AT&T Fiber America’s Fastest Home Internet for the fourth consecutive time. The company said the recognition was based on Ookla’s analysis of Speedtest Intelligence data from the second half of 2025. This is AT&T’s account of the award; it is not proof that AT&T is the fastest provider at every address.

That distinction matters because the phrase “fastest home internet” can refer to different things: a measured national result over a particular period, a provider’s advertised plan speeds, or actual performance at one home. Rankings from different services also use different periods and methods, so they should not be combined as though they were one leaderboard.
Why rankings can point to different providers
AT&T’s announcement cites Ookla Speedtest Intelligence data for the second half of 2025. SpeedOf.Me describes its U.S. state rankings for H1 2026 as median real-world download speeds from in-browser tests, subject to a minimum-sample requirement. Those findings cover different time windows and measurement approaches; neither establishes which provider will be fastest at a particular home.
#1 Best Overall
- WiFi 6E Tri-Band Mesh WiFi – Cover up to 7,200 Sq.Ft with next-gen seamless WiFi and make dead zones and buffering a thing of the past¹ ²
- Brand-New 6 GHz Band – Experience the latest frequency of WiFi, eliminating interference from all legacy devices. The 6 GHz band can work as a backhaul to ensure stable connections between nodes by default. You can switch it to Wi-Fi Network mode and connect your WiFi 6E-compatible devices to 6GHz Network³
- True Tri-Band Speed – All three WiFi bands work together to unleash your network’s total speeds up to 5,400 Mbps for 200 devices(6 GHz: 2402 Mbps (HE160);5 GHz: 2402 Mbps (HE160);2.4 GHz: 574 Mbps)¹ ³
- Our Cybersecurity Commitment - TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
- Unlock the Full Potential of WiFi 6 - Opening the 6 GHz band will change the game for WiFi 6. WiFi 6 brings about upgraded performance in network efficiency and capacity. Whereas the advantages of WiFi 6 are not fully realized while competing with transmissions from WiFi 5 (or other radios). The 6 GHz band is available only for WiFi 6 traffic, allowing WiFi 6 to meet its intended potential
BroadbandNow’s 2026 overview says fiber generally leads on performance and can offer symmetrical service, while cable and 5G home internet remain alternatives. That is useful context, not a complete measurement study or a guarantee of an individual result.
How to find the fastest internet provider near you
- Search your address on the FCC National Broadband Map. The map shows providers, connection technologies, and advertised speeds reported as available at a location. ISPs submit fixed availability data by location through the FCC’s Broadband Data Collection, with filings twice a year.
- Confirm availability with the provider. Use the provider’s own address check before making a decision. The map is a useful starting point, but listed availability can be inaccurate and can be challenged.
- Compare the plan details that matter to you. Look at advertised download and upload speeds, connection technology, and latency information where available. Check the provider’s current plan terms directly; advertised speeds and a ranking do not guarantee the performance you will get at home.
- Compare measurements on equal terms. If you use a speed-test ranking, check its measurement period, sample requirements, geography, and whether it reports median or another statistic. Keep download throughput, upload throughput, and latency distinct rather than treating one as a complete measure of speed.
What to compare beyond download speed
Downloads and uploads
Download speed affects how quickly you receive data, while upload speed matters when sending large files or participating in video calls. Fiber may provide symmetrical download and upload speeds, but the actual plans and speeds offered vary by address. Do not assume a provider’s download result tells you how its uploads perform.

- Unlock the Full Potential of WiFi 6E - Opening the 6GHz band changes the game for WiFi 6 bringing upgraded performance in network efficiency and capacity. The 6GHz band is available only for WiFi 6E, allowing WiFi 6 to achieve its full potential
Latency
Latency measures responsiveness rather than how much data a connection can transfer per second. It is relevant to interactive uses, and a high download speed does not by itself establish low latency.

Connection technology
Fiber, cable, and fixed wireless have different performance characteristics and availability footprints. Fiber can be an attractive option where offered, particularly when upload performance matters. Cable or fixed wireless may still be practical choices where fiber is unavailable. Technology alone does not guarantee a particular household’s result.

What the FCC map can—and cannot—tell you
The FCC map is an address-level availability resource, not a speed-test ranking, affordability guide, or measure of broadband adoption. It can help answer which providers report service at a location and what technologies and advertised speeds they report, but it does not establish actual performance, the best price, or which service is the right fit. The FCC explains what appears on the map, how to use it, and how to challenge an availability listing.

For the question “which ISP is fastest?” the most useful answer starts with your address, not a national award. Use the FCC map to identify reported options, verify them with providers, and compare locally available plans using download speed, upload speed, latency, and technology. Treat national accolades as context—not a substitute for checking what is actually offered where you live.
