Use the National Stock Exchange of India’s company-specific corporate-actions page to find an announced dividend’s ex-date and record date, then check the issuer’s exchange filing or investor-relations notice for the dividend amount and payment wording. The record date identifies the shareholders eligible for that dividend; the payment date concerns when it will be paid. They are different dates, and the record date does not tell you when the money will arrive.

Find the dividend entry on NSE

  1. Identify the company and, if you know it, its NSE trading symbol. Open the NSE Corporate Filings Corporate Actions page and search or filter by company or symbol. The page lists action details including purpose, ex-date and record date.

  2. Choose the row for the dividend you mean. Check the company name and dividend description so you do not mistake another corporate action, such as a split or bonus issue, for a dividend. For historical entries, consult the NSE Corporate Actions archive.

  3. Open the linked exchange filing or the issuer’s investor-relations notice. Confirm the dividend type, amount per share, any shareholder-approval condition, the record date and what the company says about payment.

For example, State Bank of India’s filing dated 8 May 2026 notified the exchanges of a dividend and specified a record date. It is an illustration of how to read a company filing, not a current-date recommendation. Check the company-specific exchange entry for the action relevant to your investment.

What each dividend date means

Announcement or declaration date

This is when the company announces or declares the dividend. The statutory payment period is measured from the declaration date, not the record date.

Record date

The company uses this date to identify the shareholders entitled to the declared dividend. In SBI’s 8 May 2026 filing, the stated record date was expressly described as determining eligibility.

Ex-date

NSE displays the ex-date separately from the record date. It is the exchange date on which shares trade without entitlement to that dividend. Check the dates shown for the specific security and action rather than assuming a universal calendar rule: settlement and calendar details matter. NSE’s securities settlement information provides settlement context.

Payment date

This is the date, or payment-period wording, the issuer gives for paying eligible shareholders. It can be later than the record date. Use the issuer’s notice for the stated timing; do not infer a payment day from the record date.

How to interpret notice and payment timing

NSE’s compliance calendar says issuers must give at least three working days’ advance notice for a Regulation 42 record date, excluding both the date of intimation and the record date. This is a disclosure requirement for the company, not a calculation investors can use to derive a record date. See the NSE compliance calendar.

Section 127 of India’s Companies Act, 2013 addresses a declared dividend that has not been paid, or whose warrant has not been posted, within thirty days from declaration to an entitled shareholder. The section provides for consequences in specified circumstances and lists exceptions. This is not a promise that every shareholder’s account will be credited on a particular thirtieth day, and the thirty-day period does not begin on the record date. Read section 127 of the Companies Act, 2013 for the statutory text.

When a date is missing or the notices disagree

  • If no specific payment day is given, report the issuer’s actual payment wording rather than supplying a date based on the record date. The statutory timing rule is measured from declaration and is subject to section 127’s exceptions.

  • If dates appear inconsistent, compare the latest issuer filing submitted to the exchange with the corresponding company-specific exchange row. Make sure the entries refer to the same company, dividend and financial period; an archive may contain older dates or unrelated corporate actions.

  • If the latest issuer filing and exchange entry still conflict, do not guess which date controls. Consult the latest exchange announcement or contact the issuer through its investor-relations channel.

Compare multiple dividend announcements

When checking more than one company or dividend, compare like with like: verify that each entry refers to the intended company and financial period, then note the following fields from the exchange entry and issuer notice.
