How to Find the Best Steam Sale Price for a PC Game

To judge whether a Steam deal is worth taking, compare the game’s current price with its recorded price history for the same edition and your own currency or region. SteamDB’s price-history pages make that comparison easier; a large discount percentage alone does not prove the price is a record low.

How to check a Steam game’s price history

1. Search for the exact game on SteamDB and open its price-history page. Check the title and edition carefully so you do not compare a similarly named game, a different release, or a package with different contents.

2. Open the price table or graph and select the currency or region you actually use. SteamDB says its price-history pages show price tables and graphs, and its live price tool displays prices across regions. Regional prices can differ; do not change your Steam account region just to seek another region’s price.

3. Compare the current offer with prior recorded prices for the same edition. Note the amount and, if shown, when the prior low occurred. SteamDB’s live tool reports the lowest price captured within its stated recording window for tracked titles. Treat that as the tracker’s recorded low, not proof that the price is necessarily the lowest the game has ever had.

4. Check whether the offer is for a bundle or package. A bundle may include other games or add-ons, so its total contents and price can explain why its effective cost differs from the standalone game. Compare what you receive, not just the headline price.

What a discount percentage does—and does not—tell you

A discount percentage compares an offer with a reference price; it does not tell you how that offer compares with the game’s past prices. SteamDB distinguishes percentage-based deal ratings from captured price history. A steep discount can still be higher than a previous sale price, so use the price-history chart to assess the actual amount.

How to decide whether to buy now or wait

Buy now if the current price meets your target

Set a personal buy price before you decide. If the current price is at or below that amount for the edition you want, the recorded history can help you judge how unusual the offer is. The choice still depends on how soon you want to play and whether the included contents match what you intend to buy.

Wait and track it if the offer is above your target

SteamDB documents watchlists and price-history tracking. Add the game to a watchlist or use a price alert where available, then check again when the price changes. This avoids treating an appealing discount badge as a reason to buy at a price you would otherwise consider too high.

When to look for the next Steam sale

Valve says Steam-wide seasonal sales run four times a year. Its Steamworks schedule lists the following dates, as published for these events:

These dates identify useful times to check, not a promised price for a particular game. Publishers choose each game’s discount; SteamDB says it cannot know which games or discount levels will be offered in an upcoming sale. A game may return at a similar price, fall lower, or not receive a discount you consider worthwhile.
