Compare the same model and storage at unlocked retailers, Samsung, and carriers, then add the costs that headline prices leave out: trade-in conditions, required plan changes, new lines, bill-credit timing, taxes, and fees. This guide is US-focused; prices and promotions can change, so verify the exact seller and checkout terms before you buy.
Start with the exact phone you want
Compare one configuration at a time. The Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra are different products, and storage, color, and unlocked or carrier status can change the listing and price. Make sure each option is for the same configuration and device condition before deciding which is cheaper.

As of Android Central’s September 14, 2026 deal guide, reported starting prices were $899.99 for the S26, $1,099.99 for the S26+, and $1,299.99 for the 256GB S26 Ultra. The guide also reported $100 increases for the S26 and S26+. These are dated starting-price figures, not guaranteed live checkout prices across sellers. Check Android Central’s deal guide and confirm today’s price, storage, seller, and stock directly with the retailer.

Compare the routes by what you will actually pay

Android Central’s September guide covered unlocked discounts at Amazon and Best Buy, Samsung trade-in credits or discounts without a trade-in, and carrier promotions. Those offers were reported at that time; they may have expired or changed. Any carrier deal described as “free” or “up to” should be read alongside its qualifying plan, line, and trade-in terms. Use the dated deal coverage as a lead, not a live quote.
Work out the full cost of a carrier offer
A phone credit is not the same as a lower total cost. Compare the carrier route with the plan you would choose without the promotion, over the full period you must keep the line to receive the credits.

- Find the actual device cost. Add the phone payments and subtract only the credits you are eligible to receive. Note how long credits continue and whether leaving or changing plans ends them.
- Calculate the plan premium. Multiply the monthly difference between the required plan and your realistic alternative by the number of months you would keep it.
- Add line and transaction costs. Include any required new line, taxes, activation or other fees shown at checkout, and any trade-in value you give up.
- Compare the resulting totals. Put that number beside the unlocked option’s checkout price plus the service plan you would otherwise use.
The available deal coverage does not give enough complete contract details to calculate every buyer’s lifetime cost. Check current carrier terms directly; do not assume a headline credit makes a carrier option cheapest.
Value trade-ins realistically
Compare the trade-in offer for your exact device and condition with the best cash or resale value you could reasonably get elsewhere. Before accepting, confirm eligible models, condition rules, the shipping deadline, when the credit is applied, and whether it can be combined with the specific promotion you want.

Samsung’s US offers page says trade-in cannot be combined with other Samsung, carrier, or retailer promotions unless the applicable terms specifically allow it. Read Samsung’s current US offer terms and check the terms for the S26 offer itself; the page may include promotions with past dates or values.
Samsung Newsroom’s launch-period terms said a trade-in could be charged back if the old device was not sent within 15 days after receiving the new purchase or if it failed eligibility checks. That deadline is from launch-period terms and should not be assumed to govern a current offer. Use the deadline and eligibility rules attached to the promotion you are considering. Do not count store credit as a phone discount
A gift card or Samsung Credit can be useful, but it may not reduce what you pay for the qualifying phone. One surfaced Samsung promotion’s terms limited its credit to eligible additional products and included restrictions on when or how it could be used. Those are dated terms, not a description of every current promotion. Check the live offer for eligible products, expiry, transaction requirements, and whether the credit can be applied to the phone itself. Review the terms of the specific Samsung offer.
Decide whether to buy now or check the scheduled sale
Android Central reported that Amazon Big Deal Days were scheduled for October 6–7, 2026, and predicted S26 discounts based on earlier sales. That prediction is not a confirmed price or guaranteed discount; competing retailers may also run promotions around the event. Use this final check before paying
- Is every listing the same S26 model, storage, color where relevant, condition, and unlocked or carrier version?
- Is the listed seller the retailer you intended to buy from, and is the phone in stock with a return policy you accept?
- What is the checkout total after unconditional discounts, taxes, and fees, before assuming any uncertain trade-in value?
- For a trade-in, are your device and its condition eligible, and do the deadline and credit timing work for you?
- For a carrier offer, have you included the required plan premium, line requirements, credit duration, and possible forfeiture?
- Can any gift card or store credit actually be used for the phone, or only for other eligible products?
There is no established market-wide average S26 discount or universally cheapest buying route. The best option depends on your configuration, trade-in device, preferred service plan, and the live terms at checkout.
