The fastest way to build a South Florida technology search is to combine a regional job feed with employer career pages, then add events chosen for your level and goal. Start with Refresh Miami’s job board and Miami Tech Jobs newsletter; scan South Florida Tech Hub listings and events; use CareerSource South Florida for public job-search help, training research and job fairs; and explore Venture Miami, TiE Miami or the South Florida CTO Club when your interests fit their audiences.

South Florida is not one single job market. Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties have different communities, employers and commuting patterns. Set your location and work-arrangement limits first, verify every listing or event with the organizer or employer, and follow up with a specific question rather than asking contacts for a generic referral.

Define your South Florida search before opening a job board

Decide which parts of the region you can realistically serve. A role in downtown Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton or West Palm Beach may be in the same broad technology ecosystem but require very different commutes. Include remote and hybrid work only when the employer’s policy and your location make them practical.

Set four boundaries

  • Geography: choose Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, a combination, or a maximum commute.
  • Work arrangement: separate fully remote, hybrid and office-based searches. Do not assume that “South Florida” means remote.
  • Role and level: distinguish help-desk, infrastructure, software, data, security, product, sales engineering and executive searches, and state your seniority.
  • Timing: note your availability, relocation date, work authorization and any schedule constraints before contacting employers.

Write these boundaries in a short search brief. It lets you reject an attractive but impractical opening quickly and gives event contacts a clear picture of what you are pursuing.

Where to find credible technology openings

Refresh Miami: a regional discovery hub

Refresh Miami directs readers to a regional technology job board, the Miami Tech Jobs newsletter, the Women in Miami Tech newsletter, event listings and a technology community calendar. It also points to founder and investor directories plus accelerator, incubator and coworking resources. Its home page can show live listings and upcoming events, but those change frequently.

Use the board as a discovery layer, not as proof that a role is still open. When you find a match, open the employer’s own careers page, confirm the title, location, employment type and closing status, then apply through the employer’s stated process. Subscribe to the newsletter if a recurring digest is easier for you to review than daily searches.

South Florida Tech Hub: jobs and community connections

South Florida Tech Hub presents its work through talent, community, regional brand-building and startup support. Its listings and local events can help you discover employers and people outside your existing network. Review the audience for each event: a talent-focused gathering may be useful for candidates, while a founder event may be more valuable for people building or funding companies.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Membership, event registration and job-posting details can change. Confirm the current access requirements and whether a posting sends you to an employer or asks you to create a separate profile.

CareerSource South Florida: public workforce assistance

CareerSource South Florida offers job-search and career-advancement resources, training research and calendars for job fairs, workshops, recruitments and professional placement events. These services can be useful if you need structured search support, skills training or introductions to multiple employers in one session.

Check the latest calendar rather than assuming a workshop recurs on the same day or at the same location. Ask the agency about eligibility, documentation, appointment requirements, training funding and whether a particular event is open to your employment situation.

Employer career pages: the final authority

Community listings are useful for finding companies, but the employer controls application details. Compare the listing with the company’s own page for the current title, requisition number, work location, salary disclosure, closing date and application instructions. Save a copy of the posting or its key requirements before applying; public listings can change or disappear.

Build a repeatable weekly job-search routine

A routine prevents the common cycle of searching intensely for one day and then disappearing for two weeks. Reserve fixed blocks for discovery, verification, applications and conversations.

  1. Monday — scan regional feeds. Review the Refresh Miami board and Miami Tech Jobs newsletter. Record only roles that match your search brief. Check South Florida Tech Hub for new postings and events.
  2. Tuesday — verify and prioritize. Open each employer career page. Remove closed, duplicate or unsuitable roles. Rank the remaining openings by skill match, location, work arrangement and application deadline.
  3. Wednesday — tailor applications. Adjust your résumé headline and project evidence to the requirements of the highest-priority roles. Keep a tracker with employer, requisition, date submitted, contact and follow-up date.
  4. Thursday — review the calendar. Check Refresh Miami, South Florida Tech Hub, Venture Miami, TiE Miami and CareerSource South Florida for events that fit your goal. Confirm venue, registration, audience and date with the organizer.
  5. Friday — follow up and learn. Send concise follow-up notes, ask one specific question of a new contact and record what you learned about employers, skills or hiring timelines.

Adjust the cadence to your availability, but keep the sequence: discover, verify, apply, meet and follow up. This makes networking part of the search rather than a separate activity with no connection to applications.

Choose events by the result you want

For job leads and broad technology contacts

Community calendars and general technology events are the best starting point when you are still learning which companies and roles exist locally. Prepare a one-sentence introduction that names your specialty, level and target geography. Ask attendees how their teams hire, which skills they value and which local groups they follow.

For startup and founder connections

Venture Miami is designed to connect local talent with businesses, career opportunities and resources, while also supporting founders, funders and people considering a move to Miami. TiE Miami describes mentoring, networking, education, incubation and investment, and advertises a five-month startup mentoring cohort. Confirm whether applications are open, who may apply, the time commitment and any selection process before planning around it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For technology executives

The South Florida CTO Club describes monthly breakfast and happy-hour meetups in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton, plus a private email group. Its stated mission is “To make South Florida a better place for technology-intensive companies by fostering a curated community, where leaders can help each other and share practical technical knowledge.” Because the group targets technology leaders, an early-career candidate may get more value from a general community event or a public workforce program.

For a named conference or meetup

If you are considering Tech Hub Pulse Conference or another event, do not rely on an old social post or an attendee’s recollection. Check the organizer’s current page for the date, venue, agenda, ticket or registration requirement, audience and cancellation policy. Look for recent speakers and participating companies, but treat a speaker list as evidence of attendance, not a promise of recruiting activity.

Prepare before you attend

  • Set one objective: identify hiring managers, learn about a technical specialty, meet founders, find a mentor or understand a local company cluster.
  • Bring evidence: have a short résumé link or portfolio ready, but lead with a conversation rather than handing out documents indiscriminately.
  • Research the room: read the agenda and identify three people or organizations you genuinely want to understand.
  • Prepare questions: ask what projects the team is hiring for, how candidates demonstrate the required skills, or which local event is useful for your level.
  • Set a follow-up limit: aim for two or three meaningful conversations and write notes immediately afterward.

Networking is more effective when you can explain what you can do. Bring one concrete example, such as reducing an incident backlog, automating a deployment, improving a data pipeline or coordinating a product launch. Use results and scope rather than a list of tools.

Follow up without asking for a favor too soon

Send a short message within a day or two. Mention where you met, the subject you discussed and one useful next step. For example: “It was good meeting you at the Broward technology meetup. Your comment about cloud-cost visibility matched a project I completed for a small operations team. Do you know of a local group where practitioners discuss FinOps roles?”

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A specific question is easier to answer than “Can you refer me?” If the person offers to review your résumé or introduce you, follow their instructions and make the next action simple. Keep a record of the conversation and stop following up if the person does not respond after a courteous reminder.

Use workforce programs strategically

CareerSource South Florida can be especially useful when your search needs structure. Before an appointment, gather your résumé, identification and training history, then write down the roles you want and the skills you need to strengthen. Ask which services are currently available in your county, whether training providers are approved, and how participation affects scheduling or eligibility.

Job fairs and recruitments can produce many conversations in a short period, but they are not substitutes for verification. Record the employer’s name, role, location and follow-up instructions, then compare them with the employer’s current careers page. Workshops may improve your résumé or interview technique; measure their value by the specific change you make afterward.

Understand the region’s scale without misreading the numbers

A 2026 South Florida Tech Gateway report, produced with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, estimates nearly 135,000 net technology jobs in South Florida. The report attributes the estimate to the 2025 CompTIA State of Tech Workforce and Lightcast 2025.3. It also reports annual average earnings of $139,717, attributed to those same sources.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

These are regional estimates, not counts of currently open positions and not a salary prediction for an individual applicant. The available report summary does not expose all methodological definitions, so use the figures as context for the size of the ecosystem rather than as a promise about your role, county or compensation. Review the full report before drawing narrower conclusions.

Avoid common South Florida search mistakes

Treating the whole region as one commute

“South Florida” can cover several distinct communities. State the counties or cities you will consider and ask whether hybrid days are fixed. A job that looks nearby on a regional map may be impractical at rush hour.

Applying through an outdated listing

Community pages can retain a posting after an employer closes it. Verify the requisition on the employer’s site and note the date you checked. Do not submit sensitive information through an unfamiliar form when the employer provides a direct application route.

Choosing an event only because it is large

A crowded conference may offer visibility but little access to the people who can answer your questions. Compare audience, format and stated purpose. A small workshop or targeted breakfast can be more useful for a specific career decision.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ignoring seniority signals

An executive peer group, a founder cohort and an entry-level job fair serve different needs. Read eligibility and audience language before registering, and choose a general community event when your level is unclear.

Expecting a referral as the first outcome

Organizations and events can provide contacts, information and practice; none of the listed resources guarantees an interview or job. Build trust by being prepared, asking a relevant question and completing the follow-up you promised.

A practical 30-day plan

Days 1–7: establish the target

Choose counties, commute limits, work arrangement, role family and level. Create a tracker and subscribe to the most relevant regional feed. Attend one event only if its audience matches your objective.

Days 8–14: build a verified pipeline

Collect openings from the regional boards, confirm them on employer pages and submit tailored applications. Contact CareerSource South Florida if you need training or job-fair support.

Days 15–21: deepen local relationships

Attend a community, founder or leadership gathering. Ask questions about hiring practices and skills, then send specific follow-ups. If you are exploring a startup path, investigate Venture Miami or TiE Miami requirements.

Days 22–30: review evidence and adjust

Count verified applications, substantive conversations, responses and interviews rather than raw registrations. If applications produce no response, refine role targeting or résumé evidence. If conversations are strong but opportunities are unclear, choose a more targeted event or contact a public workforce adviser.

South Florida’s technology opportunities are easiest to navigate when discovery, verification and relationships work together. Use regional communities to learn where openings and people are, use employer pages to confirm what is real, and select networking formats that match your experience and objective.
