WARDOGS coordination starts before anyone clicks “join.” Agree on three things in a voice or text conversation first:

- Which faction everyone will select. Friends must be on the same faction to appear in the same squad. A faction can be full, so a late player may have to wait for a vacancy rather than repeatedly attempting to create a squad.
- Who will create the squad. Decide this before loading in. The first player can create it as soon as the group has selected a faction, while another player can look for an existing open squad instead.
There is no evidence in the cited material of a universal official invitation flow, a cross-platform party system, or a pre-match party lobby. Do not assume that the Steam procedure applies unchanged to console versions or every future build.

How to join friends and create a squad
The following sequence is the friend-joining workflow reported by Shacknews. Treat it as a practical, guide-reported route rather than an official publisher manual.
- Have one friend enter a match. The lead player loads into the agreed server. WARDOGS reportedly does not let players create the party before entering a match.
- Share the server or use Steam. On Steam, friends can join the player already in the match through the Steam friends list. If that does not work, use the server ID shown by the lead player and have everyone select the same server manually.
- Select the same faction. Each friend chooses the agreed faction after loading in. If the faction is at capacity, wait for an opening or coordinate a different timing; changing servers without telling the group can split everyone into separate matches.
- Open the in-match menu. Press Esc and choose Create Squad, according to the September 2026 walkthrough. Menu wording and key bindings can change in updates, so use the current on-screen label if it differs.
- Have the others join from the squad screen. Friends can join from the same screen once the squad exists. If the squad is set to open, other players may also enter; a locked squad restricts access to the intended group.
- Confirm everyone is visible as a squadmate. Squadmate indicators and the squad communication channels should appear before the group moves toward an objective. If a friend is missing, check faction, server and squad-access settings before trying to reconnect.
Squad size is described as “Unlimited” in a BULKHEAD announcement dated February 18, 2026, as quoted by a WARDOGS feature overview (WARDOGS squads and proximity chat). In practice, the number of players you can coordinate effectively will still depend on server population, faction availability and how many people can communicate clearly.
Creating, joining and locking a squad
Create a squad for friends
After selecting your faction, open the in-match menu and select Create Squad. Keep the squad open while you are recruiting or while friends are still loading. Once the intended players have joined, use the available access control to lock it if you do not want random players entering. The exact control may be presented as an open/locked toggle or a similarly named setting in the current interface.
Join an existing open squad
A tips page for WARDOGS states that players can join only an open squad (WARDOGS tips). If you are alone, open the squad list, identify an open group on your faction and join it. A locked squad is not a failed connection; it is simply closed to additional players. Try another open squad rather than repeatedly attempting to enter the locked one.

When a friend cannot see the squad
- Verify that both players are on the same server, not merely in servers with similar names.
- Check that both selected the same faction and that the faction did not fill between their joins.
- Confirm that the squad is open while the friend is joining.
- Have the friend leave any previous squad before trying again.
- If the Steam join option is unavailable, use the server ID route described above.
These checks address the conditions documented by the guide; they are not a guarantee of a platform-specific fix. If the current build uses different menu labels, follow the equivalent squad and server controls shown in-game.
What a squad gives you in the match
Squadding is more than a name grouping. BULKHEAD’s February 18, 2026 announcement is quoted as saying: “No friend is left behind. Squadding up provides additional UI, communication tools, and vehicle locking for better coordination.” The same announcement describes proximity chat and the ability to construct loudspeakers: “Coordinate with teammates, chat with your squad, or even construct loudspeakers to blast faction propaganda at your enemies.” Both statements are reported in the publisher-feature overview (source and attribution).
The game tips page lists the practical squad-facing elements below. Because that page warns that menu details can change, use the table as a feature map rather than a promise that every control has the same name in every update.

Use the right channel for the message
Squad voice for plans and corrections
Use the private squad channel for information that only your group needs: who is taking a vehicle, which route the group is using, whether someone is waiting to respawn, or whether the squad is holding position. The cited walkthrough says squad voice works regardless of distance. That makes it useful when a player is scouting or temporarily separated, but it can also create clutter if everyone speaks at once. Assign one person to call movement and ask others to report short, actionable information.

Proximity voice for local coordination
Proximity chat is designed for nearby conversation and is not private. The Shacknews guide reports that it is limited by distance and audible to nearby enemies. Use it when you are physically alongside another player, then switch to squad voice for plans that reveal your route, numbers or objective. If an enemy may be listening, avoid announcing exact positions or timings over proximity.
Squad pings when voice is busy
Pings are useful when a player cannot speak, has a noisy microphone or needs to mark a location while moving. Pair a ping with a short squad-voice message: identify what the marker means and what action you want. A marker without context can be mistaken for an enemy, a destination or a warning.
Text when players miss a call
Private squad text is a durable fallback. Use it for a server ID, a rendezvous description or a reminder that the squad is locked. Keep messages concise so a player can read them while managing the match rather than stopping to parse a paragraph.

A simple coordination routine for a new squad
- Check in after joining. Each player confirms the same server, faction and squad status.
- Choose a leader for the next move. Leadership can be informal; the goal is to avoid four contradictory calls.
- Set a regroup point. Use a ping and a short squad message so separated players know where to return.
- Assign vehicle access before moving. If the group relies on a squad-locked vehicle, state who is driving and who is riding rather than leaving the vehicle unattended.
- Report changes, not narration. Call out a new threat, a blocked route, a missing player or a changed objective. Do not fill the channel with every routine action.
- Recheck the squad after a long separation. Gold squadmate trackers can show where people are, but a marker does not prove that the player can immediately move or communicate.
This routine uses the documented tools—voice, text, pings, trackers and vehicle access—without assuming an unverified command hierarchy or a particular objective system.

Finding teammates when you are playing solo
Use an open squad in the current match
The fastest route to a teammate is the in-game open-squad list. Join an open squad on your faction, introduce yourself in squad voice or text, and ask what the group is doing before taking a vehicle or moving away. If there are no suitable open squads, check whether the server or faction is unusually quiet and try another available match.
Use an independent LFG community for recurring teammates
Community-run services can help when you want the same people for several sessions rather than a one-match group. The WARDOGS FIGHT CLUB advertises LFG and voice channels. A separate WARDOGS Discord LFG community also advertises ways to find players and use community voice channels. Neither community is identified as an official BULKHEAD or Team17 service, so treat its invitations, moderation and availability as independent of the game publisher.

When posting an LFG request, include your platform, usual play times, preferred voice language, whether you are new, and whether you want a relaxed or objective-focused group. Troubleshooting the friend-joining flow
“My friend cannot join my match”
First compare the server ID. Steam’s join option is reported for a player who is already in a match, but a server-ID entry is the alternative described by the same guide. If both players are on different servers, leave or finish the current attempt and regroup on the agreed server. The cited sources do not establish a universal cross-platform join process, so a successful Steam connection should not be treated as proof that another platform supports the same path.
“We joined the server but cannot squad together”
Confirm faction selection before checking the squad menu. A faction-capacity problem can leave one friend in the server but unable to enter the same side. Wait for a slot or agree on another server. Then have one player choose Esc → Create Squad and keep the squad open until the others appear.
“The squad is full or locked”
The feature statement describes squad size as unlimited, but a particular squad can still be inaccessible because it is locked or because the interface has changed. Join another open squad if you are recruiting in public, or ask the creator to open the squad temporarily for friends. If the group is private, lock it again after everyone joins.
“Voice is not reaching the right people”
Check whether you are speaking in proximity or squad voice. Proximity is distance-limited and can be heard by nearby enemies; squad voice is the focused channel described by the guide. If a player is too far away for proximity, use squad voice or private text. A ping can communicate the immediate location while the audio issue is being fixed.
“I cannot find the same menu or key”
The September 2026 guide reports the Esc-menu path, while the tips page cautions that menu details may change. Open the current pause or in-match menu and look for the squad creation, squad list or access-control entry. Check the game’s key-bindings screen before assuming the function was removed. If an update changed the label, use the new label rather than relying on an old key instruction.
Keeping a squad useful through a whole session
At the start of each match, repeat only the information that may have changed: server, faction, squad access and who is coordinating. Keep the squad open while recruiting, then lock it when the intended group is complete. Use gold squadmate trackers to find separated players, but ask for a status update before moving the whole group toward a marker. Reserve proximity voice for nearby, low-risk conversation and keep sensitive plans in squad voice or text.
For recurring teammates, agree on a short convention before the session: one word for regroup, one ping meaning “enemy,” and one person responsible for vehicle decisions. Such conventions are player-organized practices, not documented WARDOGS commands, so explain them to newcomers instead of assuming they know them.
Most importantly, do not treat an open squad as a permanent party. Players can leave, servers can change and faction capacity can interrupt the original plan. Reconfirm the server and faction whenever someone reconnects, and use an independent LFG community when you need a stable group beyond the current match.
