For new games, use Steam Store’s “Narrow by Deck Compatibility” filters, then check each candidate’s compatibility details and narrow further by controls, accessibility, game mode, language, and genre. The badge tells you about expected technical compatibility—not whether a game suits your tastes.
Find compatible games in your Steam Library
- Open your Library on Steam Deck. Go to the Library view containing your games.
- Filter by compatibility rating. Use the Library’s compatibility-rating filter to show Verified games or include other ratings. Valve says Steam displays a rating for each game it has reviewed and that the Library can be filtered dynamically by rating. See Valve’s Steam Deck compatibility overview.
- Check a game’s details before launching. If the rating is Playable, Unsupported, or Unknown, open its compatibility details to see what Valve’s review says. A Playable game may need a manual adjustment that matters to your setup.
This approach answers the “what can I play from my library?” question first. It does not mean every game in the library has been reviewed: Unknown means Valve has not completed a compatibility review.

Find new games in the Steam Store
- Open Steam Store Search Filters.
- Choose a Deck compatibility filter. Use the “Narrow by Deck Compatibility” options to focus discovery on the rating you want, including Verified.
- Add preference filters. Narrow by controller support, accessibility features, player modes, language, genre, or tags where available.
- Open each candidate’s store page. Read its compatibility details rather than relying on the badge alone. Valve’s game-level Verified page example shows how a game’s rating can appear on an individual page.
Filters help build a shortlist; they do not decide which game you will enjoy. Compare the specific details that matter to you before choosing.
What the four compatibility labels mean
| Rating | What Valve says it means | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Verified | “The game works great on Steam Deck, right out of the box.” Valve’s Steamworks documentation describes Verified games as passing all compatibility checks without configuration work to access all functionality. Valve’s rating definitions; Steamworks compatibility review documentation. | Whether the game’s genre, controls, accessibility options, and play modes fit you. Verified is a technical compatibility rating, not a personal recommendation. |
| Playable | The game functions on Deck but may require manual adjustments. | Read the listed caveat. Examples include selecting a community controller layout, opening the on-screen keyboard manually, or using the touchscreen to navigate a launcher. |
| Unsupported | Valve’s review currently finds that the game does not function on Deck. | Check the stated reason and current listing. Valve notes that Proton or middleware incompatibility can affect the rating; it is not a claim that the game will be impossible for every user forever. |
| Unknown | Valve has not checked the game for compatibility yet. | Do not treat this as a negative test: the official label provides no compatibility result. |
Valve’s review covers input, display, seamlessness, and system support. Its published checks include controller input and appropriate prompts, legible text at Deck resolutions, a controller-navigable launcher without compatibility warnings, and support for Proton and required middleware such as anti-cheat. Steamworks specifies a 30 fps performance threshold at 800p on Deck’s default configuration and recommends native Deck resolutions of 1280×800 or 1280×720. These criteria do not certify every setting, future update, or individual player’s experience. Valve’s Steamworks criteria.

Choose games that fit how you play
Start with controls
Look for controller support and consider whether a game depends on touch, a keyboard, a mouse, or a community layout. A controller-support filter can help, but a Playable game’s compatibility details may reveal extra setup that is not obvious from the rating. Steam’s available search facets are listed in its Store Search Filters.
Filter for accessibility needs
Steam’s search filters include options such as adjustable difficulty, adjustable text size, subtitles, color alternatives, camera comfort, contrast controls, playable without vision, and playable without timed input. Availability varies by game, so open the individual listing and confirm the feature you need rather than assuming a filter or badge guarantees a particular experience. See Steam’s accessibility search filters.

Match the game to your play pattern
Use player-mode filters to distinguish single-player, multiplayer, PvP, co-op, or split-screen games. Then use genre and tags to find the kinds of games you actually want to play. Steam also provides language filters, which can be useful when a specific supported language matters. These facets are available in Steam Store Search Filters.

Playable is not automatically a poor choice: its adjustments may be minor or may conflict with how you prefer to use the Deck. Read the named caveat and decide whether you are willing to perform it. If you want a game to work without configuration, prioritize Verified, but still compare the game’s other features against your needs.
Rank #3
- Operating System: SteamOS 3.0
Compare candidates instead of comparing badges alone
If two games both have a rating you are comfortable with, compare the details that affect your decision:
- Compatibility: rating and any specific Playable caveat.
- Controls: controller support and any need for touchscreen, keyboard, mouse, or a community layout.
- Accessibility: the features you need, confirmed on the game’s listing.
- Play style: genre, tags, single-player or multiplayer modes, and language.
- Setup tolerance: whether the required manual steps are acceptable to you.
The Steam Store filters can narrow many of these dimensions, but your own taste still determines which genre or game is the better fit. A Verified badge cannot rank two games for you.

- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
Why ratings can change
Deck compatibility is a changing status, not a permanent catalog-wide guarantee. Valve says reviews are ongoing, games and updates arrive daily, and Deck improvements can enable games that were previously Unsupported. Valve may retest after new Proton releases, new tests, or reports from users or developers. For a current decision, check the live Store page and its compatibility details. Valve’s Deck Verified overview; Steamworks review documentation.
A compatibility label does not prevent a purchase. Valve says Steam Store customers can browse and purchase products that may not work well on Deck, with compatibility details provided on the page. Treat the rating and its caveat as information for your decision, not as a purchase restriction. Steamworks compatibility review documentation.
