The injury report shows what the club has formally filed; a depth chart shows its published ordering, not a guarantee of availability or workload.
Where to check a receiver’s injury status
- Open the NFL’s official injury report. Go to NFL.com’s injury report, select the current week and relevant game, then find the team and player. The report lists the injury, practice participation and game status.
- Check the team’s official site or app. Look for its depth chart, transactions, injury updates and coach comments. These can add context or reflect developments after an initial league report.
- Recheck close to kickoff. Review the latest league and team updates, then consult the NFL’s official inactive report for the game-day check.
If a third-party story or social post alerts you to a change, treat it as a pointer: confirm the claim against the underlying NFL or team announcement, and check when it was published.

How to read practice participation and game status
Practice participation and game status are separate fields. A practice label describes participation in practice; it is not itself a final decision on whether the receiver will play.

| Game status | Doubtful | The player is unlikely to participate. |
| Game status | Out | The player will not play. |
The NFL no longer uses “Probable” as a game-status designation. In a 2016 explanation, NFL.com said approximately 95 percent of players listed as Probable in prior years did play. That historical figure applies to the old label; it is not a current probability for a player listed Questionable. See NFL.com’s explanation of the change.

When injury reports are filed—and why to check again
The NFL’s 2026–2027 Important Dates lists regular-season filing deadlines by game day. Clubs generally file by 4:00 p.m. New York time or as soon as possible after practice. On a day a team practices, an estimated practice-status report is not acceptable. Clubs must also report a change in a player’s condition after the initial Game Status Report.
Because reports can be updated, note the publication time and revisit the official sources if your decision depends on the latest status. A report captured earlier in the week may no longer reflect the player’s condition on game day.
What a wide receiver depth chart can—and cannot—tell you
The NFL Media Access Policy requires each team to produce a credible weekly depth chart starting no later than the week of its first preseason game and update it weekly through the end of its season. It must list expected starters and backups, rather than players alphabetically. Read the NFL Media Access Policy for the requirement.

A team chart is useful for seeing the team’s published ordering, including who it lists as a starter or backup. It does not promise a particular number of snaps, targets or routes, and it may not reflect a change made after publication. Check the chart’s date against later team updates, coach comments, the current injury report and game-day inactives.

A quick check before making a decision
- Use the current week’s NFL injury report, not an old status snippet.
- Read practice participation separately from game status.
- Check the team chart’s date and look for later official updates.
- Recheck near kickoff and confirm whether the player is listed inactive.
Official injury and inactive pages are live resources, and the filing schedule is season-specific. The NFL category explanation cited above dates to 2016; verify the current report and schedule each season.
