For the most dependable NFL availability information, use the league’s injury report during the week, then check the NFL’s game-specific inactive report close to kickoff. They answer different questions: the injury report shows practice participation and a club’s game designation; the inactive report gives the final announced list of players who will not dress for that game.
Use the NFL injury report for updates during the week
Go to the NFL injury report and select the current week and the teams in the game you care about. The report presents practice status and game status in separate columns, so read them separately. Practice status records participation in practice; game status is the club’s availability designation. A player missing or limited in practice is not, on that fact alone, confirmed inactive.

Understand the game-status designations
- Questionable: It is uncertain whether the player will play.
- Doubtful: The player is unlikely to participate.
- Out: The player will not play.
These are the NFL’s published definitions. A player who is certain to play is not listed on the Game Status Report. In particular, Questionable is not a prediction either way; it leaves the player’s availability uncertain.

Check the game-specific inactive report near kickoff
For the final announced availability list, use the NFL’s inactive report and find the report for the specific game and week. The league maintains this separately from the injury report and publishes game-specific lists.

Teams designate players inactive about 90 minutes before kickoff, according to NFL Support. NFL Football Operations describes clubs’ inactive lists being delivered during the 90-minute officiating meeting. Treat the timing as a guide, not a promise that every list appears at the same exact moment.
Know when to check again
- During the week: Check the injury report for the relevant week and teams. Compare practice participation with game status rather than treating one as a substitute for the other.
- Close to kickoff: Refresh the game-specific inactive report around the 90-minute point and look for the announced list.
- If a late change matters: Recheck the official sources. The NFL’s 2026 important-dates guidance requires a club to report a change if a player’s condition changes after its initial Game Status Report.
For 2026, clubs file the Game Status Report by 4:00 p.m. New York time, or as soon as possible after practice, on the designated reporting day for that game. The designated day varies with the game schedule—for example, Friday for Sunday games and Saturday for Monday games. This timetable is specific to the 2026 season; check the league’s guidance for the season you are following.

News outlets and team announcements can help surface a late development, but verify a consequential availability claim against the NFL report or the club’s own announcement. The official injury report is the primary weekly source for league-reported injury, practice participation, and game status; the game-specific inactive report is the primary source for the final announced inactive list.
