How to Find Pokémon Promo Cards and Check Store Eligibility

Start with the official notice for the exact card and campaign, then check its dates, participating locations, qualifying activity and stock terms. A Pokémon Center shop, an official Pokémon retailer and a store hosting a Pokémon TCG event are not interchangeable: only the campaign’s own rules establish where and how a promo is distributed.

First, identify what “Pokémon Center promo” means for this campaign

Promo cards can be distributed through different channels, including Pokémon Center activities, Play! Pokémon Leagues and participating hobby stores. The card’s character or artwork alone does not tell you which route applies; campaigns in different countries may have different terms.

Pokémon Center’s support page explains that it does not operate physical retail stores in the regions served by its online stores and directs readers to Japan locations. For physical Pokémon Center and Pokémon Store branches, consult The Pokémon Company’s official shop list. For League events, use the Play! Pokémon Rewards page and its Event Locator. Follow the channel named in the specific promotion rather than assuming that a nearby official retailer participates.

How to check whether a location qualifies

  1. Identify the exact campaign and region. Note the card or campaign name and the country or market in which you want to receive it.
  2. Find the official campaign announcement. Check Pokémon, Pokémon Center or Pokémon TCG event channels, and prefer the campaign page over social posts or resale listings.
  3. Read the full terms. Write down the campaign dates, named venues or eligible-location list, required event or purchase, any participation or result requirement, per-person limit and stock conditions.
  4. Check the right location tool. Use the campaign’s own participating-store list or official Event Locator. If the promotion names a Pokémon Center branch, check the official store directory and that branch’s event schedule.
  5. Confirm directly with the venue before traveling. Ask whether the event is still scheduled, whether that location received the promo and whether distribution is still available. Listings and allocations can change locally.

What counts as eligible participation?

There is no universal requirement for Pokémon promo cards. Depending on the campaign, eligibility may mean attending an event, completing it, achieving a specified result or making a qualifying purchase. Do not assume that buying any Pokémon product—or simply visiting a Pokémon Center—qualifies.

Pokémon TCG: First Partner Illustration Collection—Series 3
  • You will receive, at random, a Pokémon TCG: First Partner Illustration Collection—Series 3 that will contain 3 of 9 possible Promo Cards featuring beloved first partner Pokémon from the Hoenn, Kalos, or Paldea region.
  • You will get 1 Pokémon TCG booster pack containing 3 of 9 promo cards
  • This also comes with 2 Pokémon TCG booster packs and a sticker sheet.

Official announcements illustrate the differences:

  • Play! Pokémon League rewards: The Rewards page describes promo cards and other items available through local Leagues. Rewards are limited and distributed first-come, first-served; it directs players to contact their local store for details.
  • Pokémon Day hobby-store events: Pokémon’s February 9, 2026 announcement described participating League events and possible promo items, including a Bulbasaur promo. It directed readers to an eligible-location list and noted that prizes could vary by location, be delayed or be distributed at store discretion, while supplies lasted. Those terms describe that dated campaign, not a standing offer.
  • Pokémon Center Japan Pikachu campaign: Pokémon Center Japan scheduled this campaign for June 20 through September 30, 2026. Its specified event routes had participation and achievement conditions, with a limit of one card per person per event and limited supplies. The campaign had ended by October 7, 2026.
  • Pokémon Card Gym events in Japan: A separate official notice for the same Pikachu promotion listed eligible Pokémon Card Gym events and certain Pokémon Center activities. It tied receipt of the card to completing the event and noted limited supply, possible store-level variation and specific distribution conditions.

These examples show why the exact announcement matters: even campaigns for the same card can specify different activities, locations or conditions.

Does an eligible store guarantee you will get a card?

No. A location can be on an eligible list while its allocation is delayed, varies from another branch or has already run out. Some campaigns also leave distribution to the venue’s discretion. The official League Rewards page describes first-come, first-served distribution, and Pokémon’s campaign notices warn that availability can be limited. Verify with the venue close to your visit; an event listing alone is not a stock reservation.

What if the campaign has ended?

Separate an official distribution opportunity from a secondhand purchase. A marketplace listing does not show that a campaign is still active, that a particular store is eligible or that the seller’s card is authentic. If the official campaign dates have passed, check for a newer announcement rather than relying on an old event page or listing.
