If you cannot access either, use the separate official lookup route for electricity and gas: in Great Britain, find your electricity distribution network operator by postcode and ask it for the supplier; in England, use the gas supplier postcode search or the official gas enquiry service. If you have just moved or rent, check who is responsible for the bills before trying to register or switch.
How do I find out who my gas and electricity provider is?
Look for the company name and contact details on a recent bill or in the online account for the property. Ofgem’s supplier-finding guidance identifies this as the simplest starting point. If no bill or account is available, electricity and gas require different lookup routes.

Who is my electricity supplier and what’s my MPAN?
Your electricity supplier is the company that provides and bills you for electricity. Your distribution network operator (DNO) runs the local electricity wires. Ofgem distinguishes the supplier from the network operator, which is responsible for the pipes and wires carrying energy. The DNO can help identify the supplier, but it is not necessarily the company that sends your bill.
- Check an electricity bill or the supplier’s online account for the supplier name and contact information.
- If you have no bill, enter the property postcode in the Energy Networks Association postcode search to find the local DNO.
- Contact that operator and ask who currently supplies electricity to the address. Some operators provide an online supplier lookup; others may require you to submit a form. Citizens Advice explains these options in its supplier lookup guidance.
For example, UK Power Networks offers a supplier and MPAN lookup for London, the South East and the East of England. It asks users to confirm that they are the bill payer or responsible for the bill. This is a regional service, not a lookup for every UK address.

- Various Monitoring Parameters: The power meter plug can monitor the power (W), energy (kWh), volts, amps, hertz, power factor, cost, minimum and maximum power (W), cumulative days and time of your appliances. By switching 7 display modes, you can easily know the various parameters while the appliance is working. The home energy monitor can also calculate and display how much power your appliance uses and how much electricity bill it cost in cumulative time
- Upgraded LCD Display: With large screen size 2.36 inch x 1.85 inch, clearer monitor backlit, our electrical usage monitor can display the data clearer and more visible no matter day or night. 180°full wide viewing angles is great for reading and recording the data in any angles. No need to stand on the front of the display and bend over to read the numbers
- Adjustable Backlight Time: Our upgraded watt meter has 5 options of backlight time. The default backlight time duration is 10 minutes(bL-0). If you want to change the backlight time, you can press and hold "UP" and "DOWN" button at the same time to enter backlight time setting, then press "UP" and "DOWN" to select the backlight time (bL-0 =10 minutes, bL-1=1 hour, bL-2=4 hours, bL-3=8 hours, bL-4=always on), finally press the "COST" to save the backlight time settings
- Overload protection: When the power of the appliance exceeds the overload power, the LCD will display “OVERLOAD” to warn the user. All the buttons will quit working and can only be workable when you lower or remove the load power. The default overload power is 3680W and is adjustable from 0 to 3680W. In general, you need to set the overload power to 1800W before using. Just press the "function" button for more than 3 seconds to enter the setting
- Data Memory Function: The wattage meter will record your power consumption data when you remove it from socket, or remove appliances from the electricity monitor. You can directly see the last data when you use it next time. This function can also automatically save the data when there is a sudden power failure
An MPAN (Meter Point Administration Number) identifies the electricity supply point. It can be useful when contacting or registering with a supplier, but you do not need to buy a device to find your supplier. Ofgem’s guidance and the National Energy System Operator’s homeowner information explain the identifier and how to obtain supply-point details.
How to find your gas supplier
First check a gas bill or the supplier’s online account. If neither is available, Citizens Advice’s instructions below apply to England; do not assume the same service or contact details cover the whole UK.

- Multi-function power monitor: Our electric usage monitor can monitor the power (W), electricity(kWh), voltage(V), frequency(Hz), current(A), power factor(PF), unit price($/kWh), total cost($) of your appliances. By switching 8 display modes, you can easily know the various parameters while the appliance is working. The “electricity” mode can calculate and display how much power your appliance uses. And the “total cost” mode will show how much electricity bill it cost in cumulative time
- Overload protection: When the loading power of the appliance is over the default overload threshold 1800W, the whole display with backlight and the word “OVERLOAD” will keep flashing to warn the users. Please turn off the appliance for safety concern
- Premium Material: The whole body of our energy meter is made of high-quality ABS material. It makes our home electricity usage monitor more long lasting, fireproof and anti-drop. The standard US socket and plug is suitable for all US standard appliances
- Backlight Display: With white backlight and black words, the LCD display of our home power monitor can display the data clearer and help you to read the data easier no matter day or night. The backlight will only lights up when the device is connected to AC power. If no button is pressed, the backlight turns off automatically after 10 minutes. You can also press the "UP" button to turn off the backlight manually, and press any button to turn on backlight again
- Easy to reset: No reset tool needed, our appliance power usage meter is easy to reset. You can press the “M” button for 5 seconds directly to reset the device. After reset, all cumulative data (electricity quantity, cost) will be cleared, and all settings will be restored to factory settings
- For a property in England, search the postcode using Find My Supplier.
- If the online search does not resolve the question, use the Meter Number Helpline listed by Citizens Advice or contact the Meter Point Administration Service (MPAS), which Ofgem identifies as a route to gas supplier information. Check the current contact details before calling, as numbers and charges can change.
- If you need the gas supply identifier to set up an account, ask for the MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number).
An MPRN identifies the gas supply point; an MPAN identifies the electricity supply point. Keep them distinct when contacting a supplier.

Check your tenancy agreement or ask the landlord which company supplies the property and who is responsible for paying the energy bills. Ofgem says that a renter who pays the bills can choose a supplier or tariff after moving in. If the landlord pays, the landlord should deal with the supplier and cover supply between tenancies. Tenancy clauses can affect switching, so check the agreement and use the relevant regional consumer guidance if responsibility is disputed.

Which lookup applies where I live?
The general electricity steps use your local DNO, found by postcode, but each operator serves a defined area. Citizens Advice labels its supplier-finding instructions as applying to England and links to separate guidance for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. In particular, do not use an England-specific gas service or phone number as though it were confirmed for Northern Ireland; follow the guidance for your nation.

Finding the current supplier does not mean you have to switch. If you want to compare tariffs, look at the unit rate, standing charge, annual usage and estimated cost, payment method, contract length, exit fees and service quality. Ofgem notes that a suitable option may be available from your current supplier, and consumers can also compare offers through suppliers or comparison websites.
