Check compatibility in this order: confirm that the developer officially supports your exact platform, then compare every published PC requirement—operating system, processor, memory, graphics hardware and free storage—against your own system. Check the recommended specification separately from the minimum. Console support must be explicitly announced for that console; a PC listing does not prove that a PlayStation, Xbox or Switch version exists. Recheck the official store and developer FAQ shortly before buying or launching because release plans and requirements can change.
Paralives is a useful current example. It entered Early Access on May 25, 2026, so it is no longer merely an upcoming project, but its platform and specification pages show exactly how to investigate another life sim that is still in development.

Start with platform availability, not performance
There are two separate compatibility questions:
- Is the game released or planned for this platform? This is a support question.
- Does this particular PC meet the stated hardware and software requirements? This is a performance eligibility question.
A powerful computer cannot run a game that has no PC build, and a console cannot run a PC-only release simply because the console is technically capable. Look for an explicit listing, announcement or FAQ statement naming the exact platform family and, when relevant, the operating-system version or processor architecture.

What counts as confirmation
- An official store page that lists the platform and operating system.
- A developer or publisher FAQ that answers platform questions directly.
- An official announcement naming the specific console generation or model.
- A current release listing rather than an old trailer, interview or fan-maintained database.
“Planned,” “announced” and “available” describe different stages. A planned port may never ship, while an available PC version says nothing about a console port. Treat a dated “no plans” statement as a snapshot, not a permanent promise.

How to verify a PC version
Open the game’s current store page and write down the complete minimum and recommended lists. Do not stop after checking the graphics card. A requirement table normally contains at least five independent checks:
- Operating-system edition and version.
- Processor model or speed.
- Installed system memory (RAM).
- Graphics processor (GPU), including any API requirement such as DirectX.
- Free storage space, sometimes with a separate requirement for an SSD or additional downloadable content.
Some games add architecture, runtime or peripheral requirements. For example, an Apple-processor-only build excludes Intel Macs even when the operating-system version looks current. If a listing gives only a broad family such as “Core i5,” do not turn that into a guarantee for every chip carrying that name; generations and laptop power limits differ.
Record minimum and recommended separately
Minimum is the developer’s stated floor for launching or playing under an unspecified lower-quality configuration. It is not a promise of a particular frame rate, resolution, visual preset or save-file size. Recommended is a higher target intended for a better experience, but it still is not an independent benchmark for your machine.
Keep two columns in your notes. A PC can satisfy the minimum CPU but miss the recommended GPU, or satisfy the GPU while falling below the RAM requirement. The strictest unmet item is the point that needs attention; matching one component does not cancel out a shortfall elsewhere.
Worked example: Paralives on PC and Mac
Paralives Studio’s press kit identifies Paralives as a life simulation game for PC and Mac and lists Steam as its store. It records an Early Access date of May 25, 2026. The developer FAQ, posted March 3, 2026, says the game is single-player and available on Steam for PC and Mac. It also states, “There are no plans for console versions at the moment.” That sentence describes the FAQ’s publication context; check the studio’s latest announcement if you are reading it later.
The current Steam listing publishes the following requirements. They are official thresholds, not a controlled performance test on every configuration.

The Steam page also warns that Intel-processor Macs are not compatible and suggests lowering resolution and graphics settings if frame rate is low. That advice is a troubleshooting option, not a claim that every machine below the listed specification will work.

| Memory | 12 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Free storage | Not stated separately on the macOS rows | Not stated separately on the macOS rows |
The Windows and macOS rows are not interchangeable. An M2 Mac meeting the macOS minimum does not satisfy a Windows-only requirement, and an Intel Mac is specifically excluded despite having enough memory or storage.
Paralives Studio said in a November 2025 news update that the Steam page had been updated with PC and Mac minimum requirements. The Steam listing is the more current source for the detailed Windows and macOS values above; use the live listing for any later revision.
A repeatable compatibility checklist for any life sim
1. Identify the exact game and edition
Write down the full title, edition and planned release channel. A sequel, remaster, expansion or test branch can have different requirements from the base game. Also note whether the page describes an Early Access build, demo or final release.
2. Confirm the exact platform
For PC, check whether the listing supports Windows, macOS or both, and note architecture restrictions such as Apple silicon only. For consoles, look for the exact family and generation on the official store or publisher page. Do not infer a console port from a PC-only Steam page, a controller icon or a developer’s general statement that the franchise is “coming to consoles.”

4. Inspect your actual PC
On Windows, open Settings > System > About to see the Windows edition, processor and installed RAM. Open Task Manager > Performance to identify the graphics processor and confirm memory; some systems also expose the GPU name in the graphics control panel. In File Explorer, right-click the intended drive and choose Properties to check free space.
On macOS, choose Apple menu > About This Mac to see the chip, memory and macOS version. Check available capacity in the storage view in System Settings. Record the chip family, not just the word “Mac,” because Apple and Intel processors are not equivalent for a title that requires Apple silicon.
5. Compare like with like
Match the precise model where one is provided. A similarly named older GPU, integrated graphics, mobile version of a processor or different Apple chip may not equal the listed part. When a publisher names only a broad family, report that uncertainty instead of promising compatibility. If your PC has multiple GPUs, verify which one the game will use rather than assuming the integrated adapter is sufficient.
6. Check storage with headroom
Compare the free space on the drive where the game will be installed with the published requirement. Leave additional room for patches, shader caches, saves and the operating system; an exact match can fail when an update needs temporary space. Storage capacity does not by itself establish loading speed, so do not claim an SSD advantage unless the developer specifies one.
7. Classify the result
- Supported platform, every minimum met: the system reaches the publisher’s stated floor, with no guarantee of a preferred frame rate or quality preset.
- Recommended met: the machine reaches the higher published target, still without a universal performance guarantee.
- One or more minimum items missed: compatibility is uncertain; seek an official update or test rather than assuming a small gap is harmless.
- Platform not listed: treat it as unsupported or unconfirmed until the developer says otherwise.
8. Recheck close to release and after major updates
Save the date and version shown on the current store page. Early Access builds can add features that raise requirements, while optimization work can change them in either direction. Check again immediately before purchase, before a major update and whenever the developer changes the release schedule.
How to judge console compatibility
Console verification is simpler than a PC comparison but easier to get wrong through assumptions. Search the official store for the exact console model, then confirm that the listing is for that hardware generation and region. A current-generation release may not run on an older console unless the publisher explicitly lists backward compatibility. Conversely, an announcement that names one console family does not automatically include its successor or a handheld variant.

Look for a release status such as available, announced or planned, and note whether the statement is dated. A console announcement answers the support question; it does not provide a frame-rate or resolution guarantee unless those targets are published. Do not buy a console accessory as a workaround for a game that has no confirmed console version.

Why trailers and genre labels are unreliable evidence
A trailer shows an authored scene, not the range of simulation, pathfinding, building tools and background characters that a player’s computer must process. Two games both described as life sims can use very different engines and simulation scales. Visual similarity is not a hardware specification.
Likewise, a studio’s broad statement about a franchise is not a commitment for every project. Electronic Arts says future Sims experiences span PC, console and mobile, but describes Project Rene as a separate mobile-first social game and warns that some concepts evolve or do not move forward. Use the announcement to understand scope, not to infer that every future life sim will launch on your device.
Release changes, cancellations and dated statements
Upcoming projects can be delayed, re-scoped or canceled. Paradox Interactive announced, “Sadly, we’ve decided to cancel the release of our long-awaited life sim Life by You.” A page, trailer or retailer entry that remains online is not evidence that a canceled game will eventually run on your hardware.
Paralives illustrates the opposite problem: its press-kit Early Access date has passed, so calling it simply “upcoming” is now inaccurate. Its March 2026 FAQ’s console statement may become stale if the studio announces a port later. Always attach a date to a plan and prefer the newest official store or developer page.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat minimum and recommended really tell you
Minimum is a floor, not a preset
Developers publish minimum values to describe the lowest configuration they intend to support. They generally do not specify the resolution, quality preset, population size, frame-rate range or late-game save complexity associated with that floor. Meeting minimum can therefore mean that you can launch and play with compromises, not that the game will feel smooth at high settings.

- Powered by GeForce RTX 5060
- Integrated with 8GB GDDR7 128bit memory interface
- PCIe 5.0
- WINDFORCE cooling system
Recommended is a target, not a benchmark
Recommended hardware is a more useful starting point for a new purchase, but it still leaves variables such as drivers, cooling, background applications and simulation load. Never convert a recommended part into a guaranteed “60 frames per second” claim unless the developer publishes that test condition.
Integrated graphics and laptops need caution
Integrated GPUs share system memory and vary widely by processor generation and power limit. Laptop versions of desktop components can also perform differently. If the official table names a discrete GPU, treat an integrated adapter or vaguely similar model as unconfirmed rather than equivalent.
If your PC falls short
First identify the failing component. A graphics card upgrade is relevant only when the GPU is the bottleneck and the desktop has compatible power, case clearance, connectors and a suitable processor and memory configuration. The Paralives listing’s GPU rows can tell you what class to investigate, but they do not establish that a particular replacement fits your computer or that upgrading is better than using another device.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If RAM or storage is the shortfall, those may be separate remedies; if the operating system or processor architecture is unsupported, a graphics upgrade will not solve it. Do not spend money until you have checked the whole system and the game’s current requirements. On a laptop, core components are often not replaceable, so verify support before purchase rather than planning an upgrade.
For a system that meets the minimum but reports low frame rate, use the developer’s documented controls first. Paralives’ listing specifically suggests reducing resolution and graphics settings. Close unnecessary background applications, update the graphics driver through the hardware maker’s supported channel and retest; these steps can improve consistency but cannot create support for a missing platform or architecture.
A practical decision record
Keep a short note or screenshot containing:
- The official store URL and the date you checked it.
- The exact platform, operating-system version and architecture.
- Every minimum and recommended CPU, RAM, GPU, API and storage value.
- Your PC’s corresponding values, including the exact GPU model.
- Any unresolved item, such as a broad CPU family or an unannounced console port.
This record prevents a common mistake: remembering that a game “supports PC” while forgetting that your specific operating system, processor architecture or graphics adapter is excluded.
Quick Recap
Final pre-purchase check
- Open the current official store listing.
- Open the developer or publisher’s platform and FAQ page.
- Confirm the exact platform and release status.
- Compare every minimum item, then compare the recommended target separately.
- Verify free storage and architecture restrictions on your own device.
- Look for a newer announcement, delay, cancellation or requirements revision.
- Only then decide whether to buy, wait for a confirmed port or consider a hardware change.
