A game disappearing from the Steam Store does not, by itself, remove it from an account that already bought or activated it. Valve’s Steamworks documentation says retired games remain in existing players’ libraries and can still be downloaded, installed, and launched. If you cannot see the title, verify the Steam account, clear Library filters, and check View > Hidden Games. For a recent purchase, confirm that the transaction completed, then sign out of Steam and sign back in.
Is a delisted Steam game still in my library?
Store delisting and account ownership are separate things. Delisting removes a game from public Store listings, so new customers may no longer be able to buy it. It does not automatically erase the entitlement of someone who already purchased, redeemed, or activated the game.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Valve describes this policy in its Steamworks documentation under “Removing a product from Steam”: “Retired games will remain in players’ Steam libraries. Those players will continue to be able to download, install, and launch the game.” That is the platform’s general treatment of retired products, not a promise that every old game will always function. A title can still depend on servers, third-party services, an external launcher, or an activation record that has a separate problem.
The practical test is account-specific: sign in to the account that acquired the game and check the Library, hidden-game list, and purchase or activation history. A public Store search cannot tell you whether your account owns a particular delisted title. A missing Store page and a missing Library entitlement are different symptoms.

How do I find a game that disappeared from my Steam Library?
Work through these checks in order. Each step rules out a different cause, starting with mistakes that are easiest to correct. Repeat the search after each change rather than assuming that one screen tells you the whole account status.
1. Sign in to the account that owns the game
Open the Steam client and confirm that you are using the account that originally bought the game, redeemed its code, or received it as a gift. Steam Support identifies the wrong account as a common reason a previously activated game is missing from the list.
Accounts can be easy to confuse if you have more than one login, used a family member’s account, changed an email address, or created a second account after a purchase. Do not rely on the computer, Windows user profile, or an email currently visible in another application as proof of ownership. Check the signed-in Steam account itself and, if necessary, sign out and test the other account you may have used. A desktop shortcut, an old installation folder, or a recent-played entry can remain on a computer even when the active Steam account is different.
Use the account that actually completed the purchase or activation. If another person bought the game, ask which account received the gift or redeemed the key; searching your own account will not establish that you own it.
2. Remove Library filters
Go to Library and inspect the filters above the game list. Clear collection, genre, platform, installation-status, and other filters so the client is showing all games available to the account. A filter can make a title appear to have vanished even though the entitlement is intact.
If you use a custom collection or dynamic shelf as your normal starting view, switch back to the complete Library before searching. Search by the game’s exact title, and try the title used when you originally bought it if the publisher later changed its branding. Check spelling and punctuation, and do not assume that a Store search result is required for a Library title to appear.
After clearing filters, allow the Library list to finish loading before concluding that the game is absent. If the client was displaying a narrow collection, the title may only become visible when the all-games view is selected.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3. Open the hidden-game list
In the Steam client, choose View > Hidden Games. A hidden game is deliberately removed from the normal Library list for organization; it is not deleted from the account.

If the missing title appears there, right-click it, choose Manage, and select Remove from Hidden. Return to the main Library and search again. Hiding affects your own client view, so a game can seem absent even though its license and installation options remain available.
Remember that hiding is not the same as making a game private. Hidden Games is the place to look when you cannot see a title in your own ordinary list. Privacy settings concern what other users can see; they do not normally remove the title from your own Library.
4. Check whether a recent purchase actually completed
If you bought the game recently, find the Steam receipt email and open your Steam purchase history. Look for a completed transaction, not merely an authorization attempt or an order that is still pending.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Steam notes that an incomplete or pending purchase may not yet create a completed Library purchase. A payment page can appear to finish while the transaction is still being verified. Compare the receipt details, account, game name, and transaction status. If the purchase is not recorded as completed, the missing Library entry is a transaction issue rather than a consequence of delisting.
Check the account named in the receipt, especially if you use more than one Steam login. A bank notification that money was reserved or an authorization appeared is not the same as a completed Steam purchase. Keep the receipt and transaction identifier; they can help Support match the payment to the entitlement.
5. Refresh the Steam session
For a completed purchase that still does not appear, log out of the Steam client and sign back in. This refreshes the account data that the client is displaying. After signing in, clear the Library filters again, search for the title, and revisit View > Hidden Games.
Use the desktop client for this check rather than relying only on a shortcut, a recently played list, or a desktop icon. Those shortcuts can remain after an account change and do not prove that the currently signed-in account owns the game. If the title appears after the new sign-in, the earlier problem was the client session or account view, not necessarily the license.
6. Separate a missing listing from a missing license
If the title is absent from the Store but present in the Library, that is consistent with a normal retirement. If it is absent from both the ordinary Library and Hidden Games, focus on the account and transaction checks rather than repeatedly searching the Store.

If the game was obtained through a key, gift, or bundle instead of a direct purchase, locate whatever activation or gift information you have. The relevant entitlement may not appear as a recent card purchase, but Steam Support can still review the account record when you provide the activation or gift details.
7. Escalate only after the basic checks
When the correct account, complete Library view, Hidden Games list, purchase history, and refreshed session all point to ownership but the title remains absent, contact Steam Support. Explain the exact checks you performed and include the account and transaction or activation information. Do not assume that the delisting itself explains the discrepancy; Support must inspect the account-specific record.
What each result means
| What you find | What it indicates | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| The game appears after selecting the correct account | The original account was different from the one first checked. | Use that account to install or launch the game. |
| The game appears after clearing filters | A Library view or collection filter was excluding it. | Adjust or remove the filter you were using. |
| The game is listed under Hidden Games | The game was hidden for organization, not removed from ownership. | Right-click it, choose Manage, then Remove from Hidden. |
| A recent order is pending or absent from purchase history | The transaction has not become a completed Library purchase. | Check the receipt and payment status; resolve the transaction before troubleshooting the game itself. |
| The purchase is completed but the title is still absent | The client may have stale account data, or the entitlement record needs support review. | Sign out and back in, then contact Steam Support if it remains missing. |
| The game was activated with a key that was later revoked | Key revocation is a licensing problem separate from Store delisting. | Follow Steam’s resolution options for the revoked key. |
| The purchase was declined | The temporary access was not converted into a valid purchase. | Complete a valid purchase before expecting the game to remain playable. |
| The game is visible but a friend cannot see it | A privacy setting, not a Library ownership problem, may be affecting other users’ view. | Review privacy controls; the owner’s Library visibility is the relevant test. |
| The game is present but will not launch | The entitlement exists, but a server, external account, launcher, or game-specific service may have failed. | Troubleshoot launch and service requirements separately from ownership. |
Hidden, private, and delisted are different
Hidden game
A hidden game is still associated with your account, but Steam removes it from the ordinary Library view. This is an organizational setting in your client. Use View > Hidden Games to locate it and Manage > Remove from Hidden to restore it to the regular list.
Private game
Privacy controls determine what other people can see about your games. Steam’s support guidance distinguishes a private game from a hidden one: a private game remains visible to its owner in the Library, while privacy changes its visibility to other users. If you can see the title but friends cannot, privacy is the relevant setting—not delisting.
Delisted or retired game
A delisted game is no longer offered as a normal Store listing. Under Valve’s stated policy, existing players retain the Library entry and may continue to download, install, and launch the title. Delisting alone is therefore not evidence that your entitlement disappeared.
That policy does not guarantee that every feature will remain available forever. A game can require an online server, a publisher account, an external launcher, or another service that changes independently of Steam’s Store page. Treat the Library entry as evidence of the Steam entitlement, then investigate service failures separately.
Payment problems that can remove access
Declined card or payment authorization
Steam may let you play while a credit-card purchase is being authorized. If the payment is ultimately declined, Steam says it removes the game from the Library and requires a valid purchase to play. In that situation, the game’s disappearance is caused by the failed transaction, not by its Store listing status.

Check the purchase record and the payment method’s result. A bank notification that an amount was reserved is not the same as a completed Steam purchase. Resolve the declined payment or make a valid purchase through Steam before expecting the entitlement to return. Do not treat temporary access during authorization as proof that the account owns the game permanently.

Pending or incomplete order
A pending order can explain why a recently bought game does not appear. Compare the status in purchase history with the receipt email and wait for the transaction to become a completed purchase in the account record. If it remains incomplete, provide those details to Steam Support rather than trying to diagnose the game’s files.
Revoked CD key
A revoked key is also separate from delisting. Steam Support says that after a key is revoked, playing again requires one of the following: buy the game, activate another valid key, or receive a gift copy. Finding that the game was once installed does not restore a revoked license.
Do not assume that reinstalling the client, changing filters, or downloading an old installer will repair a revoked key. The issue is the activation record attached to the account. Keep any notice or key-related information when contacting Support, and avoid sending the key to an unofficial person who promises to restore access.

After checking the account, filters, hidden list, transaction history, and client session, gather the information Steam Support will need:
- The Steam account currently signed in and any other account you may have used.
- The exact game title, including an older name if the title was rebranded.
- The approximate purchase or activation date.
- The Steam receipt or transaction identifier for a direct purchase.
- Details of a redeemed key, gift, or bundle if the game was not bought directly.
- The result of each check: cleared filters, Hidden Games result, purchase status, and whether signing out and back in changed the Library.
Contact Steam Support with those details and explain that the game is absent after the standard visibility and transaction checks. Support can inspect the account’s entitlement record; a public Store page cannot. State whether the game was bought directly, activated with a key, or received as a gift, because those routes create different records for Support to review.
Do not send a key, password, or payment detail to an unofficial contact claiming it can restore the game. Use Steam’s own support channel and provide only the information requested there. Public availability cannot establish whether a particular reader’s account is licensed.
Why a delisted game may still fail to launch
A Library entry establishes that Steam recognizes an entitlement, but it does not guarantee that every component of an old game still operates. A retired title may rely on online servers that have shut down, a publisher account that no longer authenticates, or a third-party service that changed. Some games also require an external launcher or an activation step that is independent of the Steam Store listing.

Best Value
- Entry missing: investigate account identity, filters, hidden status, transaction completion, and licensing records.
- Entry present but download unavailable: check the client’s installation message and any service requirement shown by Steam.
- Installed but will not launch: investigate the game’s own launcher, online service, or compatibility requirements.
- Launches but online features fail: determine whether the game’s servers or external account service are still operating.
Valve’s statement covers continued Library access and the ability to download, install, and launch retired games as a general policy. It does not certify that a particular game’s servers, external accounts, or every feature remain available. A working entitlement and a working game are related but not identical questions.
A fast checklist
- Open Steam and verify the account that bought, activated, or received the game.
- Open Library and clear every filter so all games are shown.
- Search the exact title and, if needed, an earlier name.
- Choose View > Hidden Games.
- If found there, right-click the game, select Manage, and choose Remove from Hidden.
- For a recent purchase, compare the receipt with Steam purchase history and confirm the order is completed.
- For a key, gift, or bundle, locate the relevant activation or gift details.
- Log out of Steam and sign back in, then repeat the Library search.
- If the title remains absent, contact Steam Support with the account and transaction or activation details.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using the Store search as an ownership test: a delisted title may have no public listing even when existing owners retain it.
- Checking only the default Library shelf: filters and custom collections can hide a game.
- Confusing hidden with deleted: Hidden Games is a view setting, not an ownership action.
- Assuming private means hidden: privacy affects what other users see, while a hidden game is removed from your own normal list.
- Treating a pending payment as a completed purchase: authorization or a bank hold does not prove that Steam granted the entitlement.
- Blaming delisting for a revoked key: key revocation has its own licensing remedy.
- Assuming an old installation proves current ownership: a local folder or shortcut does not identify the account now signed in.
- Assuming a Library entry guarantees online play: servers and external services can fail even when Steam still recognizes the entitlement.
Bottom line
Start with the Steam account, then clear Library filters and check View > Hidden Games. A completed purchase should normally remain available even after the game leaves the Store. If a recent order is not complete, or if a key was declined or revoked, access is governed by that transaction or license problem instead. When all checks pass and the game is still missing, Steam Support is the only party that can verify the account-specific entitlement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a delisted Steam game automatically removed from my Library?
No. Valve says retired games remain in existing players’ Steam libraries and those players can continue to download, install, and launch them. A separate payment, key, or account problem can still remove access.
Recommended Free Tools
Where are my hidden games on Steam?
In the Steam client, choose View > Hidden Games. If the title is listed, right-click it, choose Manage, and select Remove from Hidden.
What if I bought the game but it is not in my Library?
Confirm that you are signed in to the account that made the purchase, clear all Library filters, check Hidden Games, and verify the order in purchase history. If the order is completed, sign out and back in; then contact Steam Support if the title is still absent.
Can a declined payment make a Steam game disappear?
Yes. Steam may allow temporary play while a card purchase is authorized, but if the payment is declined, Steam says it removes the game from the Library until a valid purchase is made.
What happens if my Steam CD key was revoked?
Revocation is separate from Store delisting. Steam Support says you must buy the game, activate another valid key, or receive a gift copy to play again.
Does making a game private hide it from my own Library?
No. Steam distinguishes privacy from hiding: a private game remains visible to its owner, while privacy changes what other users can see. Use Hidden Games when the title is missing from your own normal list.
Why can I see a delisted game but not launch it?
The Steam entitlement may still exist while the game’s servers, publisher account, external launcher, or another third-party service no longer works. Troubleshoot those requirements separately from the missing-Library checks.
Can Steam Support tell whether my account owns a delisted title?
Yes, Support can inspect the account-specific entitlement record when you provide the correct account and purchase, activation, gift, or bundle details. A public Store page cannot verify individual ownership.
The Bottom Line
Delisting usually removes a game from sale, not from existing owners’ Libraries. Verify the account, clear filters, check View > Hidden Games, confirm the transaction, and sign back in before contacting Steam Support.
