A short sync period can limit what appears on your phone, but it won’t restore mail deleted from the provider’s server.
Why can’t I see my old emails in Samsung Email?
One possible cause is the account’s sync period: it controls how far back Samsung Email syncs messages to the phone. Samsung’s US support page gives three days and one week as examples of short settings that can leave older mail out of view. The exact options depend on the account and device. Samsung’s missing-email troubleshooting guide describes this as one possible cause, not the only one.

Older messages may still be on the email provider’s server. Whether the app can load them, and how, depends on the provider. The app’s menu labels and available settings can also vary by Galaxy model, software version, and carrier, as Samsung Canada’s account guide notes.

How do I change the email sync period?
- Open Samsung Email and confirm that the correct email account is selected.
- Tap the Menu icon, then open Settings.
- Select the email account that contains the missing messages.
- Tap Email sync period and choose a longer duration. Samsung’s US instructions say to select a longer duration; the choices shown on your phone may differ.
Return to the mailbox and give the app time to sync. If the setting is not present, check the account’s settings and provider guidance; not every account or app version exposes identical options.

How do I find older emails on my Galaxy?
Search by a distinctive detail
Use Samsung Email’s search with a sender name or address, a phrase from the message, or its subject. Samsung says search can retrieve older email from the server. A specific term is more useful than a broad search such as “meeting.” See Samsung’s instructions for missing old emails and its guide to using Samsung Email.
Load more messages in the mailbox
Open the relevant mailbox, scroll to the end of the messages currently displayed, and swipe up to request older ones. Samsung Germany says older mail is usually held on the provider’s server and that loading it depends on the provider. The gesture or result may therefore differ by account. What if the message still does not appear?
- Check the provider’s webmail or official app. If the message is there but not in Samsung Email, focus on sync or account configuration. If it is not there either, changing the phone’s sync period cannot bring it back; recovery depends on the provider’s policies and available options.
- Confirm the account and mailbox. Make sure Samsung Email is showing the right account and folder, rather than another inbox or a filtered view.
- Check account setup if syncing fails. Samsung supports automatic setup for selected providers and manual setup for others. For manual configuration, obtain the incoming and outgoing server details from the email provider rather than guessing. Samsung Colombia’s Samsung Email setup guide covers these options.
- Consider how the account is used. Samsung recommends IMAP for an account used across multiple devices. The provider can confirm whether IMAP is supported and which settings are required.
Which settings should I expect to see?
Samsung’s published steps use the path Menu → Settings → email account → Email sync period, but that wording and the available choices are not universal. If your screens differ, use the closest account-sync setting shown on your phone and consult current guidance from your email provider. Samsung notes that Galaxy settings and screens can vary with the carrier, software version, and model.
