Where Rockstar publishes genuine GTA 6 announcements
There is no need to identify a rumor by its popularity. Start with a page or profile controlled by Rockstar and look for the original wording and date. A claim repeated thousands of times is still unverified if it never appears on a Rockstar-controlled channel.
The official GTA VI site
Open rockstargames.com/VI directly or reach it through a bookmark you created yourself. The page carries Rockstar’s official trailers, screenshots, downloadable media, featured news, platform information, and links to Rockstar’s social accounts. Those links are useful because they take you to the intended profiles rather than to an account that merely copied the name, logo, or avatar.
#1 Best Overall
- This product contains a download code inside the box — no disc is included. Customer shipments will begin arriving November 12 for pre-load; game is playable starting November 19. Code can only be used by users holding an account for PlayStation registered to the US or Canada.
- Pre-order to receive the Vintage Vice City Pack.
- Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.
Use the page as a source of record for media and headline facts. If an image or trailer is circulating elsewhere, look for the same item on the official page and compare the context, title, and publication date. An image that looks authentic is still only an image until you can locate its original Rockstar page or post. Check the address bar as well as the page design: a similar logo, color scheme, or subdomain is not enough if the page is not on Rockstar’s domain.
The site is also useful for scope. It can show whether Rockstar has named PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, whether a trailer is presented as an official release, and whether a media item is downloadable from Rockstar. Do not expand a narrow statement into claims about PC availability, editions, features, or timing that the page does not make.
The GTA VI Newswire listing
For announcements and changes over time, use Rockstar’s GTA VI Newswire listing. Newswire entries are dated, so you can establish when Rockstar published a statement and whether a newer entry changed it. Read the complete post rather than relying on a headline copied into a social post.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Keep the listing’s sequence in mind. A genuine Newswire article can become outdated without becoming fake. When a newer entry changes a date or clarifies a detail, cite both only when the history matters, and identify which one is current. Save the article URL and date in your notes so you can distinguish an original announcement from a later summary.
Rockstar’s email newsletter
Rockstar Support identifies the Rockstar Propaganda email newsletter, along with the official site and Newswire, as places to receive GTA VI information and preorder guidance. It is an official update channel, not a guarantee that every rumor mentioned in an email or forwarded from one is true. Verify a claim against the corresponding Rockstar page.
Subscribe through Rockstar’s own support or website instructions, not through a form supplied by an unknown account. An email that uses Rockstar’s name can still be spoofed or forwarded out of context. Treat links in a message as a starting point and confirm that the destination is an official Rockstar page before entering account or payment details.
Official social profiles
Follow the social links from the official GTA VI site. Do not authenticate an account from its display name, follower count, verification badge, or logo alone. A legitimate-looking profile can still be impersonating Rockstar, while a real profile may change its name or presentation. The decisive check is whether Rockstar’s own site points to that profile and whether the profile’s post matches an announcement on the site or Newswire.
Open the profile from the site link each time a major claim appears, especially if the post is being quoted in a screenshot. Compare the exact account handle, post date, attached media, and wording. A repost from a genuine account may omit a qualification, while a lookalike account may use an almost identical handle. The profile link is stronger evidence than branding displayed inside an image.

What the current release information actually says
Rockstar’s dated announcements show why the date and sequence matter when you check a claim.
| Date | Rockstar information | How to describe it now |
|---|---|---|
| May 2, 2025 | A Newswire post said GTA VI was “now set to release on May 26, 2026.” | Earlier schedule; superseded by a later official announcement. |
| November 6, 2025 | A later Newswire post moved the release to November 19, 2026. | Replacement announcement for the earlier date. |
| October 13, 2026 check | The official GTA VI site listed November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. | Current listing at the time of that check; recheck before publishing or sharing. |
When two posts conflict, the newer dated Rockstar post governs the schedule unless Rockstar publishes another change. Do not quote May 26, 2026 as the current release date without explaining that it was superseded on November 6, 2025.
The platform wording matters too. The October 13 listing names PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; it does not, by itself, establish a PC date, a specific edition, a preorder bonus, or availability in every region. Repeat only the details Rockstar actually states. If a retailer page or social post supplies extra information, label it separately until Rockstar confirms it.
A step-by-step method for checking an announcement
Use the same sequence for release dates, trailers, platforms, preorder notices, story claims, and supposed emergency statements.
- Start at Rockstar’s source. Type or bookmark rockstargames.com/VI, then open the Newswire link or the social profile links shown there. Avoid entering through a reposted URL, an image search result, or a link sent by an unknown account. Check that the page remains on a Rockstar-controlled domain.
- Find the original post. On Newswire, open the dated entry rather than a search snippet. On a social platform, open the post on the profile reached from Rockstar’s site. Record the exact wording, date, and any stated platform or region. If the claim comes from an email, locate the matching web page rather than relying on the forwarded message alone.
- Check the sequence. Look for a newer Newswire entry that changes, clarifies, or replaces the claim. A post can be genuine and still be outdated. Search the GTA VI-tagged listing, not just a general web result that may surface an old article.
- Match the scope. Ask what Rockstar actually confirmed. A statement about a network intrusion, for example, does not confirm a later gameplay clip, character list, build number, or release-date rumor. A platform announcement does not automatically confirm a release window for another platform.
- Verify the media’s origin. Search the official GTA VI site for the same trailer, screenshot, or downloadable asset. Compare the uncropped file or video with the circulating version. Cropping, captions, edits, and missing context can make old material appear to be new.
- Check the claim separately from the file. Even if the media is genuine, the caption may be false. Identify what the original asset was called, when it was posted, and what Rockstar said about it. Then assess the new claim on its own evidence.
- Classify the claim. Label it confirmed only when the exact claim appears on a Rockstar-controlled source. If it appears only in a screenshot, clip, repost, or unattributed account, call it unverified rather than “probably real.”
- Recheck time-sensitive details. Before publishing a post or repeating a date, revisit the site and Newswire. A missing post at one moment does not prove a claim is false; it means the claim is not confirmed by the sources you checked.
For a newsroom or community moderator, keep a simple verification record: source URL, account handle, publication time, quoted wording, media URL, and the newest related Newswire entry. That record makes corrections easier if Rockstar updates the announcement.
What the confirmed 2022 intrusion tells you about leaks
On September 19, 2022, TechCrunch reported Rockstar’s statement confirming that an unauthorized party accessed company information, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto. Rockstar’s statement said: “We recently suffered a network intrusion in which an unauthorized third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our systems, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto.”
That confirmation establishes the incident Rockstar described. It does not authenticate every clip, account, supposed development build, story detail, or release-date claim that appeared afterward. The material was described as early development footage, so it should not be treated as a representation of the finished game or as evidence that an unfinished feature will ship.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe statement also has a defined date and scope. It confirms unauthorized access and downloaded confidential information, including early footage; it does not create a permanent certificate of authenticity for material posted years later. If a new clip is described as coming from that incident, you still need to check whether Rockstar has identified that specific file. Do not infer confirmation from visual similarity alone.

Do not download or redistribute files presented as stolen material. They may be unsafe, unlawful to possess or share, or stripped of the context needed to understand what they show. Use Rockstar’s official media and announcements when you need something you can cite. If you are reporting on the incident, attribute the quotation to Rockstar and identify TechCrunch’s September 19, 2022 report as the place where the statement was reported; do not present TechCrunch as Rockstar’s own page.
Warning signs that a GTA 6 announcement is not verified
These signs do not prove that a claim is fabricated, but they tell you to stop and verify it before sharing.
- Screenshot without a source: The image has no visible URL, date, or link to an original Rockstar post.
- Account found only through a repost: You cannot reach the profile from Rockstar’s official site, and its identity rests on a copied logo or display name.
- Old information presented as new: A previous date, trailer, or statement is reposted without its original publication date.
- Conflicting dates: The claim does not match the newest dated Newswire entry or the current listing on the official site.
- Cropped or edited media: Captions, watermarks, cuts, or aspect-ratio changes prevent you from comparing the complete item with Rockstar’s version.
- Specificity without documentation: The post gives a precise feature, build number, store listing, or schedule but provides no Rockstar-controlled source.
- Pressure to share immediately: Instructions to repost before verification are a reason to slow down, not evidence of authenticity.
- Link destination mismatch: A URL uses a familiar-looking name but does not lead to a page on Rockstar’s official domain or to a profile linked from the official site.
- Unexplained certainty: The writer presents an inference as a confirmation, such as treating a real screenshot as proof of a release date.
- Missing qualification: A post omits platform, region, date, or “early development” language that appears in Rockstar’s original wording.
How to compare two competing claims
When two posts appear to announce different information, score both against the same four questions.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →| Check | What to look for | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Origin | A Rockstar-controlled page or profile reached through the official GTA VI site. | Whether the source is attributable to Rockstar rather than an impersonator or repost. |
| Date and sequence | The publication date and any newer Newswire entry. | Which announcement is later and whether an older statement was replaced. |
| Confirmation scope | The exact incident or claim Rockstar addressed. | Whether the source confirms this specific point, rather than a different historical event. |
| Media provenance | The same image or video on Rockstar’s official media pages or in the original post. | Whether the circulating file has an identifiable official origin and intact context. |
If one claim has no original post, mark it unverified even when it seems plausible. If both claims come from Rockstar, use the later dated post and quote the wording that explains the change instead of combining the two into a single statement.
Do not treat search-engine ranking as an additional check. Search results can favor popular reposts, cached pages, or commentary. The decisive comparison is between the exact claim and Rockstar’s own dated page or linked profile.
How to verify screenshots, trailers, and clips
Locate the complete asset
Open the official GTA VI site and inspect its trailers, screenshots, downloadable media, and featured news. Find the complete version of the circulating asset, not just a matching frame. Compare logos, captions, edits, aspect ratio, and surrounding text. A real Rockstar screenshot can be reposted with a false claim attached to it.
Look for compression and editing clues, but do not use visual quality as your only test. A low-resolution repost can be genuine, and a polished fake can look official. The original page, date, and accompanying wording carry more weight than whether an image “feels” authentic.

Separate media authenticity from claim authenticity
A clip can be genuine early-development material while the description attached to it is wrong. Likewise, a real trailer can be used to support an invented release date. Verify the file’s origin and the statement being made about it as separate questions.

Keep the date with the file
Record when Rockstar published the original asset and when the new post appeared. If the dates differ, explain that the material is being reused rather than calling it a new announcement. This is especially important when an old trailer is reposted during a period of release-date speculation.
What to do when an official post appears to disappear
A missing result is not conclusive proof of fabrication. Pages can be edited, removed, relocated, or temporarily unavailable. Check the GTA VI Newswire listing for a dated replacement, then check the official site again. Until you can find a current Rockstar-controlled page or profile carrying the exact claim, report it as unconfirmed. Do not fill the gap with a screenshot whose original page cannot be located.
Preserve the distinction between “not found” and “false.” State when and where you checked, and invite readers to provide the original Rockstar URL if they have one. If Rockstar later restores or replaces the post, update the status and retain the older wording as historical context rather than silently rewriting it.

A practical status label for your own posts
Use a precise label so readers know what has been established.
| Label | Use it when | Example wording |
|---|---|---|
| Confirmed | The exact claim is on the official site, Newswire, or a profile linked from Rockstar’s site. | “Rockstar’s November 6, 2025 Newswire post moved the date to November 19, 2026.” |
| Superseded | The claim was once official but a newer Rockstar post replaced it. | “May 26, 2026 was an earlier date; the later announcement superseded it.” |
| Unverified | The claim appears only in screenshots, clips, reposts, or accounts without an attributable Rockstar source. | “No Rockstar-controlled post confirming this claim was located.” |
| Historical incident | The material relates to the September 2022 intrusion confirmed by Rockstar. | “Rockstar confirmed early development footage was accessed in that incident; this does not validate later leaks.” |
Use “unverified” instead of “fake” when the available evidence only shows that confirmation is missing. Reserve stronger language for a demonstrable impersonation, manipulated file, or contradiction by a newer official statement. This keeps your wording accurate without amplifying the rumor.
How to report an announcement without amplifying a leak
- Link to the original Rockstar page or Newswire entry, not to a repost of it.
- Quote only the wording needed to establish the claim and keep the publication date attached.
- State the platform, region, edition, or other limitation exactly as Rockstar states it.
- Identify an older date as superseded when a newer announcement exists.
- For an unverified leak, describe the source and the missing confirmation without embedding stolen files or directing readers to download them.
- Set a reminder to recheck the official site before the information becomes time-sensitive, such as a release date or preorder instruction.
- Explain the status in the headline or first sentence so readers do not mistake a rumor report for a confirmation.
Do not reproduce a stolen clip merely to prove that it exists. A link to Rockstar’s official media gives readers a safer comparison point and avoids rewarding accounts that distribute unauthorized material.
Limits of what official channels can prove
Official pages can establish what Rockstar has announced, when it announced it, which platforms it named, and which media it published. They cannot turn an unrelated screenshot into an official statement, prove that an unannounced feature will ship, or authenticate a later file merely because Rockstar previously confirmed a security incident. Keep the claim no broader than the source that supports it.
No reliable rate or percentage establishes how many GTA VI rumors are fake, so avoid adding a statistic without a named publisher and date. The practical test is source attribution, date, sequence, scope, and media provenance—not the number of accounts repeating a claim.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the official GTA 6 announcement page?
Use Rockstar’s official GTA VI site at rockstargames.com/VI and the GTA VI-tagged Rockstar Newswire listing. Rockstar Support also identifies the Rockstar Propaganda email newsletter as an official update channel.
What is the current GTA 6 release date?
When checked on October 13, 2026, Rockstar listed November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar previously announced May 26, 2026, on May 2, 2025, but a November 6, 2025 Newswire post superseded that date. Recheck the official site for later changes.
Does the 2022 GTA 6 leak prove that later leaks are real?
No. Rockstar confirmed on September 19, 2022, that an intrusion exposed confidential information including early development footage. That confirms the incident Rockstar described, not every later clip, account, build claim, story detail, or release rumor.
How can I tell whether a Rockstar social account is genuine?
Reach the profile through links on Rockstar’s official GTA VI site. Do not rely only on a display name, logo, follower count, or verification badge. Match the account’s post to a dated Rockstar page or Newswire entry.
Is a screenshot of a Rockstar post proof of an announcement?
No. Locate the original page or post, confirm its URL and date, and compare the complete wording. A screenshot can be cropped, edited, outdated, or taken from a real post and paired with a false caption.
What should I do if I cannot find the original Rockstar post?
Call the claim unverified, not automatically false. Check the GTA VI Newswire listing and official site again for a replacement or relocation, and do not present the screenshot or repost as confirmation until the exact claim is traceable.

Should I download files described as stolen GTA 6 material?
No. Do not download or redistribute purported stolen files. They can be unsafe or unlawful to possess or share and may lack the context needed to understand what they show. Use Rockstar’s official media instead.
The Bottom Line
For GTA 6 news, start with Rockstar’s official GTA VI site and the GTA VI Newswire listing. Reach social profiles through Rockstar’s own links, check the exact wording and date, compare newer posts for superseded information, and verify media against the official archive. Treat screenshots, reposts, clips, and later claims about the 2022 intrusion as unverified until Rockstar confirms the exact point.
