Poplar Leaves drop Poplar Saplings, Wandering Traders can also trade saplings, and Poplar Logs craft into a Poplar wood set. The feature is part of the released versions named below, so the search and crafting steps here apply to those releases and not to earlier builds.
Confirm your version first
The instructions depend on which edition and release you are playing. The two official references are:

- Minecraft Java Edition 26.3, whose release notes describe Wilderness Bound as released on September 15, 2026.
- Minecraft: Bedrock Edition 26.50, covered by its official changelog.
Both sets of notes place Poplar Trees in the Dappled Forest. If your game is on an earlier version, these notes do not describe the feature, so check your version number in the launcher or settings before searching. Development snapshots of Java 26.3 also mention the biome, but a snapshot is not a released version and should not be used as the reference for current play.
Finding poplar trees
- Explore the Overworld for the Dappled Forest biome. In Java Edition, press F3 to open the debug screen, which shows your current biome. Bedrock Edition does not display the biome by default, so you will need to identify the terrain and check the biome as you travel.
- Search near cold biomes. The notes say the Dappled Forest occurs near cold biomes. Treat this as a direction to explore, not a fixed route: they give no distance, coordinates, or guaranteed path from a cold biome to a Dappled Forest.
- Look for Poplar Trees, standing or fallen. The Java release notes state that both standing and fallen Poplar Trees generate in the Dappled Forest.
- If you already have a sapling, plant it instead of searching. A planted sapling grows into a tree, so you do not need to keep hunting for wild trees to get more. The notes give no special planting recipe, and the leaf color is not something you can choose (see below).
Saplings and leaf variants
Poplar Leaves drop Poplar Saplings. Each sapling grows into one of three leaf variants, chosen at random:

Wandering Traders can also offer Poplar Saplings in trades, which is a route to saplings that does not depend on finding a tree. The official notes do not describe a way to pick the color before growth, so do not plan a build around a specific color. The variants are a visual difference: the notes do not attach different gameplay uses to red, orange, or yellow leaves.
Using Poplar Logs and the wood set
The trunk of a Poplar Tree is made of Poplar Logs. Both the Java 26.3 notes and the Bedrock 26.50 changelog state the same thing about them:

“Poplar Logs can be crafted into a new set of Poplar wood blocks.”
In practice, the sequence is to collect Poplar Logs from a tree and craft them into the Poplar wood set. The notes confirm that the set exists, but they do not list every block in it or give the recipe for each one. Check the crafting interface and recipe book in your game to see which blocks are available. The leaf colors do not carry over to the wood: the notes describe the leaf variants and the log-to-wood relationship separately and do not say the wood set comes in three colors.

What the official notes do not establish
The release notes are the authority for the points above, but they do not cover the following, so this article does not give them:
- Fixed coordinates, seed-specific locations, or a distance from cold biomes to the Dappled Forest.
- Search or locate commands for finding the biome.
- Spawn rates, frequency of Poplar Trees, or sapling drop rates and counts per tree.
- Any way to choose a leaf color before a sapling grows.
- A complete list of blocks in the Poplar wood set, or the recipe for each one.
If you cannot find a Dappled Forest
- Check the version. Poplar content is described for Java Edition 26.3 and Bedrock Edition 26.50. An older install will not show the biome.
- Check the biome, not just the terrain. A forest-looking area is not the same as a Dappled Forest; in Java, the F3 screen confirms the biome.
- Explore cold-biome borders. Since the notes place the biome near cold biomes, that is the most direct area to search, though the search may take time.
- Use a sapling if you have one. Planting it avoids the search entirely, with the caveat that its leaf color is random.
If the game has been updated since these notes were published, recheck the official Java and Bedrock version notes for any changes to the biome, saplings, or wood set.
