Open the Pokémon GO map, locate a Power Spot, collect its Max Particle bubbles, and tap Battle when your balance covers that boss’s entry cost. For Max Monday, plan around the weekly 6:00–7:00 PM local-time window and verify that Monday’s featured Dynamax Pokémon in the current game event information.
What is Max Monday?
Max Monday is a recurring Pokémon GO event held every Monday from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM in your local time. During that hour, a featured Dynamax Pokémon takes over Max Battles at Power Spots. The featured species changes, so the event is not tied to one permanent boss; check the in-game event information or Niantic’s current announcements before you travel.

The short window makes preparation important. You need a nearby Power Spot that remains open during the event, enough Max Particles for its boss, and a team that meets the Max Battle eligibility rules. If you expect to play away from home, identify more than one possible Power Spot because locations can move or disappear.
How Max Battles and Power Spots work
Power Spots are temporary map locations where Max Battles appear. They become visible as you explore, and the Nearby menu provides a second way to find them without manually scanning every street.

What the map shows
Zoom and pan around your current area to look for the Power Spot marker. A spot may not remain in one place indefinitely, so a location seen earlier can be gone when you arrive. Treat the map as live information and check it again shortly before setting out.
What the Nearby menu shows
Nearby can list local Power Spots and, when a spot has a Dynamax Pokémon, provide the details you need to choose between them:
| Nearby detail | How it helps |
|---|---|
| Boss species | Shows which Dynamax Pokémon is available at that Power Spot. |
| Battle difficulty | Helps you judge the challenge before spending time traveling there. |
| Time remaining | Shows whether the spot should still be open when you arrive. |
| Location details and distance | Lets you select a reachable spot and estimate the walk from your current position. |
| Waiting Trainers | Indicates whether other players are already gathering for the battle. |
These fields are more useful than simply choosing the closest marker. A slightly farther spot with several waiting Trainers may be a better choice than an empty spot that closes soon.

Collecting at a Power Spot
- Tap the Power Spot on the map.
- Tap the visible Max Particle bubbles to add them to your balance.
- Check your total before selecting Battle.
You can also collect Max Particles while exploring. Niantic says Adventure Sync can help collect them during exploration, so enable and use that feature if it fits your normal walking routine.
Caps you need to plan around
Niantic’s English help page states a limit of 800 Max Particles collected per day and a maximum of 1,500 Max Particles held in the Item Bag. The help page does not state a publication year for these figures. Because the limits and the game interface can change, confirm the current values in Pokémon GO if you are planning several battles.
When particles are charged
Particles are spent only when your group successfully defeats the boss. If the group loses, you can retry before that Power Spot closes without paying additional Max Particles for the failed attempt. This makes a retry worthwhile when the location still has time remaining and more Trainers can join.

- Open the map. Look around your current area for Power Spot markers.
- Open Nearby. Review the listed spots, including species, difficulty, remaining time, distance, location information, and waiting Trainers.
- Choose a viable location. Prefer a spot you can reach before it closes and, for a difficult boss, one where other Trainers are waiting.
- Travel to the marker. Recheck the map on arrival because Power Spots are temporary and may move or disappear.
- Tap the Power Spot. Collect its Max Particle bubbles before attempting to enter.
- Verify your balance and party. The Battle option is available when you have enough particles and an eligible team.
- Tap Battle. Enter the lobby and wait for other Trainers or for the lobby countdown to finish.
If the spot no longer appears, return to Nearby and select another listing rather than assuming the original marker will come back.

Prepare an eligible team of three
A Max Battle party contains three Pokémon. At least one must be a Max Pokémon, and only Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon can participate. A normal, non-Dynamax Pokémon cannot fill the party requirement.
Check eligibility before you leave
- Have three Pokémon ready for the battle party.
- Confirm that at least one is Dynamax or Gigantamax.
- Make sure the Pokémon you intend to use are available and not assigned elsewhere when you reach the spot.
- Power up their Max Moves when possible; Niantic recommends improving Max Moves as part of preparation.
The boss’s difficulty, shown in Nearby, is a useful signal for how much coordination you may need. A harder listing with no waiting Trainers may require you to organize players before committing to the trip.
Join the lobby and start the battle
- At the Power Spot, tap Battle.
- Select your three-Pokémon party, including at least one Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon.
- Enter the lobby and watch for other Trainers to appear.
- Coordinate locally or through Campfire when you need more players.
- Battle when the lobby fills or its timer reaches zero.
Up to four Trainers can challenge the boss together. Niantic recommends Campfire as a way to find local Trainers for Max Monday, which is particularly useful during the one-hour event window. The lobby may begin when four Trainers have joined or when its timer reaches zero, so do not assume you must wait for a full group if the countdown ends first.

If the group loses
You may rejoin and try again before the Power Spot closes. A failed attempt does not deduct additional Max Particles. Use the remaining time to invite more Trainers, adjust the party, or wait for players shown as nearby.

If the group wins
Victory provides rewards and a chance to catch the defeated boss. You can also leave one of your Pokémon at the Power Spot to assist future challengers. Leaving a Pokémon is an optional post-battle action; it is not required to receive the victory rewards or encounter.
How to organize a Max Monday session
Before Monday evening
- Check which Pokémon is featured in the current Max Monday announcement or in-game event information.
- Collect particles while exploring, including through Adventure Sync where appropriate.
- Confirm that your balance is below the 1,500-particle bag ceiling so you can collect more, and remember that only 800 can be collected in one day according to Niantic’s help page.
- Prepare three eligible Pokémon and upgrade Max Moves if you can.
- Use Nearby to identify several Power Spots, noting their distance, difficulty, remaining time, and waiting Trainers.
- Decide how you will contact other local players; Campfire is Niantic’s recommended coordination option for finding Trainers.
During the 6:00–7:00 PM window
- Open the map and Nearby as soon as the event begins.
- Choose a Power Spot that is reachable and has enough time remaining for a battle and a possible retry.
- Collect particles at the spot, then enter the lobby with your prepared party.
- Watch the waiting-Trainer indicator and coordinate if the group needs help.
- If the first attempt fails, use the remaining opening to retry rather than traveling immediately to a new spot.
For a longer outdoor session
Map-based play can keep you outside for an extended period. Bring a charged phone and, if you already use one, a USB-C portable power bank. This is a practical convenience for managing battery during exploration, not a Pokémon GO requirement or a Niantic recommendation.

| Decision factor | Choose the listing that… |
|---|---|
| Featured boss | Matches the Dynamax Pokémon you want to encounter or catch. |
| Difficulty | Fits the strength of your prepared team and the number of Trainers you can gather. |
| Time remaining | Leaves enough time to arrive, form a lobby, battle, and retry if necessary. |
| Distance and location | Is reachable safely within the event or Power Spot’s remaining lifetime. |
| Waiting Trainers | Already has players present when the boss is difficult to defeat alone. |
A spot that is closest but nearly closed can be a worse choice than one a few minutes farther away with a longer remaining window. Likewise, a lower-difficulty battle may be more practical than a high-difficulty listing when no other Trainers are waiting.

Troubleshooting common problems
No Power Spots appear
Move through the area and refresh the map. Power Spots appear as Trainers explore and can move or disappear, so use Nearby to check whether another local listing is available.
The Power Spot disappeared before you arrived
Return to Nearby and select a current listing. A marker seen earlier is not a guarantee that the spot will still exist when you reach it.
The Battle option is unavailable
Tap the spot’s Max Particle bubbles, check that your balance meets that boss’s variable entry cost, and verify that your party includes three eligible Pokémon with at least one Dynamax or Gigantamax member.
You do not have enough Max Particles
Collect the bubbles at the Power Spot and continue exploring to earn more. Check both your daily collection limit and your Item Bag capacity; the English Niantic help page lists 800 collected per day and 1,500 held.
The lobby is empty
Use the waiting-Trainer information in Nearby, move to a busier Power Spot, or coordinate through Campfire. You can still attempt the lobby when its timer reaches zero, but a difficult boss may require additional players.
The team is defeated
Rejoin before the Power Spot closes. The failed attempt does not consume additional particles, so use the remaining time to change your party or bring in more Trainers.
