Start with the official Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) website. Use its Case Status facility to follow a specific appeal, and check the relevant bench’s cause list or pronouncement list to find scheduled or recently delivered matters. For official use, an online order download is not a substitute for a certified copy obtained from ITAT.
Choose the search route that matches what you know
| What you need | Where to start | What to have ready |
|---|---|---|
| Progress or details for a particular appeal | Official ITAT Case Status | Appeal number, filing date, assessee name, or acknowledgement number; the form may also require a bench and appeal type, plus CAPTCHA completion. |
| A matter listed for hearing or recently pronounced | ITAT cause lists and pronouncement lists | Relevant bench and date. Check for later notices because lists may be revised. |
| Discovery of a decision by case name or other legal citation | ITAT Order Search or Pronouncement Search, if available on the live site; alternatively, a third-party legal research database as a discovery aid | Use the live ITAT controls to confirm what search fields are currently offered. Verify third-party results against the official record. |
| An order copy for official use | ITAT certification process | Follow the Tribunal’s current process for obtaining a certified copy. |
Search a case through ITAT Case Status
Open itat.gov.in and navigate to Case Status. The official form lists four search routes:

- Appeal number
- Date of filing
- Assessee name
- Acknowledgement number
Choose the route that fits the information you have. On relevant forms, select the bench and appeal type, then complete the displayed CAPTCHA. Enter identifiers as shown on your case paperwork; if one route does not locate the matter, try another available identifier.

Check cause lists and pronouncement lists
The ITAT homepage and its “What’s New” notices publish dated, bench-level cause lists and pronouncement lists. A cause list helps identify matters scheduled before a bench; a pronouncement list indicates matters for which decisions are to be pronounced. Open the notice for the bench and date relevant to the case, and check the site again for subsequent notices or revisions before relying on an earlier list.

Find a decision when you do not have a case number
Government documentation identifies Order Search and Pronouncement Search as ITAT website functions. Start from the official site and look for those features, but confirm the controls shown there: the current filters and exact behavior of the dedicated Order Search are not established here, so do not assume it supports a particular party-name, citation, section, or date query.
A third-party legal research database may help discover a possible decision. One reviewed service advertises search filters including party name, citation, court, section, and date, but its completeness and official status are not established. Treat a result as a lead, then confirm the order against ITAT’s official record. ITAT describes itself as a quasi-judicial institution established in January 1941 and says its orders are final subject to an appeal to the High Court where a substantial question of law arises; that description does not make a third-party copy an authenticated official-use copy.

Know when you need a certified copy
ITAT’s Terms & Conditions state: “Only the certified copies of the order obtained from the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal would be considered to be the authenticated copy of the order for official use.” Accordingly, use a downloadable order or an indexed reproduction for reading and discovery, but obtain a certified copy from ITAT when an authenticated copy is required for official use. Check the Tribunal’s current instructions for the certification process.
