Site size, access roads, turning space, hookups and hotel parking rules vary, so contact the property before booking whenever a detail is unclear.
How to choose a campground site that fits your RV
A campground may have some sites suitable for RVs and others that are tent-only, too short or difficult to reach with a large rig. Check the details for the individual site in the campground’s official listing or reservation system, including its maximum RV or trailer length and any alerts.

Compare the site limit with your complete setup
Measure the RV and, if applicable, the trailer in the configuration you will bring. Consider slide-outs and awnings when checking the space required around the site. Also check whether the site is pull-through or back-in and whether its approach works for your combination.

A posted length limit does not guarantee that every vehicle within that length can reach or maneuver into a site. Yosemite National Park explains that listed RV and trailer lengths describe what a site can easily accommodate, while access roads and turning radius can affect fit. Read site alerts and select a site suited to your equipment; direct site-specific questions to the campground office. Yosemite campground information

Check hookups and services separately
Confirm the specific services you need rather than assuming they come with an RV site. Depending on the campground, these may include electrical hookups and amperage, water, sewer, a dump station, showers, washrooms, kitchen shelters or Wi-Fi. Parks Canada notes that frontcountry campground services vary and directs visitors to each destination’s detailed amenity information. Parks Canada camping information
Understand clearance guidance in context
National Park Service campground standards list at least 14 feet of overhead clearance for RV sites and driveways. That is a standards reference, not a guarantee for every campground road, individual site or route to the property. Check the actual approach and any low structures against your rig’s height, including roof equipment. National Park Service outdoor developed areas guidance

How to confirm that a hotel can park your RV
Hotel parking rules are property-specific. Official hotel FAQs illustrate the difference: one property says RV parking is unavailable and asks guests with particularly large vehicles to call; another says RVs and commercial vehicles cannot park in its lot. Neither policy should be assumed to apply to a different property, even within the same chain. Hilton hotel information
Recommended Free Tools
- Read the individual hotel’s parking page or FAQ for RV and trailer restrictions.
- Contact the property and ask whether your RV and trailer combination is permitted, can remain overnight and has a suitable space.
- Give the full dimensions and ask about maximum height, length and width, turning room, parking fees and whether a space must be reserved.
- If parking is in a garage, compare its clearance with the tallest point of your vehicle, including roof equipment. If parking is off-site or operated by a third party, confirm that provider’s rules too.
- Get confirmation before committing to a nonrefundable stay, and keep the agreed arrangement with your booking details.
If the hotel cannot accommodate the rig, look for a nearby campground or RV park and plan transportation to the hotel if needed.

Compare options before you book
Use the factors that affect whether you can actually stay there—not the general description alone.
| Campground | Hotel |
|---|---|
| Maximum rig length and fit for the RV-and-trailer configuration | Explicit permission for RVs and trailers |
| Access road, turning space and pull-through or back-in layout | Outdoor space or garage clearance, plus turning room |
| Slide-out and awning clearance; hookup location and needed amenities | Rules for overnight parking, fees and advance reservations |
| Site alerts, booking certainty and cancellation terms | Availability, confirmation from the property and distance from your planned stop |
For a campsite with an unclear length limit, access route or hookup arrangement—or a hotel with an ambiguous parking policy—ask the property directly and keep its answer. A listing label alone cannot establish that a particular space will work for your rig.
