There are 120 shrines in the base game of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The The Champions’ Ballad DLC adds 16 more, but you do not need the DLC to find all 120 base-game shrines. The most reliable approach is to uncover the map region by region, compare your progress with a regional checklist, and check each shrine’s access requirements when a marker does not lead straight to an entrance.
Decide which shrine count you are tracking
Use 120 as your target if you are completing the base game. Zelda Dungeon lists those shrines by region and separates them from the 16 additional shrines in The Champions’ Ballad DLC. Its guide distinguishes four Spirit Orb rewards from the remaining emblems associated with the Divine Beast Tamer’s Trial, so DLC progress is not simply 16 more Spirit Orb shrines. See Zelda Dungeon’s shrine list and map.

The DLC is optional for the base-game shrine set. Nintendo’s Canada product page says the Expansion Pass requires the full game and is sold separately; check the current Nintendo listing for its present contents and availability.

The Sheikah Slate has a map of Hyrule and a scope for identifying points of interest, as described on Nintendo’s game page. Rather than scanning the whole world at once, work one map region at a time:

- Brand New in box. The product ships with all relevant accessories
- Climb the tower for the region you want to search. Towers reveal additional sections of the world map.
- Open the map and use the scope to inspect terrain and locate visible points of interest. Place a marker when you spot a possible shrine location.
- Compare the area with a shrine list grouped by tower region, such as the Nintendo Life region-by-region guide.
- Visit each candidate location and check the shrine-specific directions if the marker is not an obvious entrance.
- After clearing the region, compare your map markers with that region’s checklist before moving on.
A regional route makes it easier to see which parts of Hyrule you have covered and keeps a missed location from becoming a search across the entire map.
Find the shrine you are missing
Compare progress one region at a time against the 120-shrine list. On the map, a shrine marker’s appearance indicates its progress state; Zelda Dungeon also notes that a chest indicator appears when all chests in that shrine have been collected. That distinction helps separate a shrine you have not found from one you have already visited but have not fully cleared.
- No shrine marker at the expected location: Recheck the regional list and the exact directions. The entrance may be concealed or reached by a route that is not obvious from the map.
- A marker is present, but the shrine is not accessible: Check the shrine entry for its specific directions, cave access, or quest requirements. Some shrines require more than walking up to a visible point on the map.
- The shrine is marked, but your checklist still seems incomplete: Confirm whether you are tracking discovered shrines, completed shrines, or every chest. These are different progress checks.
Use shrine-specific directions for conditional entrances
Regional maps are useful for narrowing the search, but they do not replace directions for individual shrines. Nintendo Life’s guide includes location examples and groups entries by tower region; consult the relevant shrine entry when terrain, a cave, or a quest condition affects access. Treat an approximate map location as a starting point, not proof that the entrance must be directly beside the marker.

If your goal is all 120 base-game shrines, finish the regional list without counting the 16 additional Champions’ Ballad entries toward that target. If you own the DLC and are pursuing its extra content, use Zelda Dungeon’s separate DLC details to distinguish the four Spirit Orb rewards from the trial’s other emblems. The game itself was released on March 3, 2017, according to Nintendo’s product page; the base-game and DLC counts refer to different content sets.
