Browse when you want recommendations
Look through featured categories and curated collections in the app. In the Store, collections can include charts, new releases, and deals; open a collection and then a movie to check its details. The available collections and titles are not a guarantee that a particular classic is offered in every location. See Apple’s Apple TV Store guide for buying and renting movies.

Check how the movie is available in your region
On the movie’s page, look at the current options. Depending on the title and location, you might see Play, Buy, or Rent, or a path to watch it in another app or channel. If it requires a purchase or rental, it is not included simply because you use the Apple TV app. Apple notes that rental availability is subject to change; check the title page rather than relying on an old listing or assuming a film is available everywhere.
- Play or an app/channel option: Check what service or app the page directs you to and whether you have access to it.
- Rent: A rental gives you a limited viewing window; check the rental terms before starting playback.
- Buy: A purchase is a one-time transaction rather than a rental. Confirm the listed price and option on the title page.
Watch a purchase or rental from Library
After buying or renting a movie, open Library in the Apple TV app to locate it. For a rental, you have 30 days to start watching. Once playback starts, the rental expires 48 hours later. These rental windows are documented by Apple in its rental guidance; the 48-hour period begins with playback, not with the rental transaction. Apple also explains how to manage the Apple TV app Library on iPhone.

Choose a format your setup can play
Check the format labels on the movie page before choosing a version. Apple’s guide covers 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos indicators; whether you benefit from a format depends on the movie version and compatible playback equipment. A 4K label refers to 3840 × 2160 pixels, while HD is 1920 × 1080 pixels. Apple recommends a minimum internet speed of 25 Mbps for 4K streaming, and says 4K versions cannot be downloaded. See its guide to movie formats in the Apple TV app.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteUse the Apple TV app on a device you already have
Apple TV 4K is one way to use the app on a television, not a requirement for finding or watching movies. Apple documents the app on multiple device types, including supported Apple TV hardware and other platforms; check its device guide for the options it lists. The hardware provides a way to run the app; it does not itself grant access to a movie, subscription, rental, or purchase.
