What’s actually slowing this PC down?

The reliable method is to start on the company’s own investor-relations (IR) website, identify the exact reporting period and event, then cross-check the release, webcast, transcript and any regulatory filing. Search engines are useful for finding the IR site, but the issuer-linked event page should be your verification anchor.
Do not treat a search-result snippet, an old calendar entry or a headline non-GAAP number as proof that you have the right event. Confirm the issuer, fiscal period, publication date, event date and time zone, document type, accounting basis and whether a webcast is live or archived.

The six-step workflow
1. Find the issuer’s investor-relations site
Search for the company name plus investor relations, quarterly results or earnings release. Open the company-controlled IR result rather than relying on a news article or an unaffiliated calendar. On the IR site, look for labels such as News, Quarterly Results, Events, Presentations or Financial Information.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUse the company’s own navigation to reach the event. This matters because a third-party service may host the page or webcast player, yet still be part of an issuer-linked IR experience. The link should lead from the company’s official IR domain or from a page that the company’s IR site clearly identifies as its event or filing resource.

2. Identify the exact earnings event
Open the event listing and record the company name, fiscal quarter or year, release date, call date, start time and time zone. Companies do not all use the same fiscal calendar: a “second quarter” can end in a different month from another company’s second quarter. A calendar entry without a reporting period is not enough to establish identity.
Look for an event page that groups the related materials. Meta’s event archive, for example, links an earnings press release, presentation, transcript and webcast from the same event context. JPMorganChase’s events page groups an earnings event with a release, presentation, supplement, transcript, call and Form 10-Q. DoubleVerify’s listing includes a release, webcast, transcript, financial spreadsheet and slides. These are examples of useful organization, not a promise that every issuer supplies every item.
3. Download the release and locate the filing
Open the earnings release itself, not just the headline. Check its title, reporting period, release date, currency, units and whether the figures are preliminary or subject to later filing. Save the document or its stable page address so you can compare it with the call materials.
For a company that files with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, look for the issuer’s filing page or the SEC filing linked from the release. Mastercard’s Q2 2026 page says its earnings release is available on its IR website and will be furnished with the SEC on Form 8-K. That is an issuer-specific example; filing forms, timing and disclosure rules differ by jurisdiction and issuer.
4. Open the webcast and establish its status
Use the webcast link on the same event page. Before a scheduled call, the page may show a registration form or a “listen live” control. Afterward, look for Listen to Webcast, Replay, Recording or a similar archive label.
Check the event date, start time and time zone next to the player. Never infer that an old listing is live now. Also check whether the page says the replay is available for a limited period. Mastercard states that the cited event’s replay will be available for 30 days; that duration applies to that event and should not be generalized to other companies.

5. Retrieve the transcript, prepared remarks and supplements
Return to the event page after the call and look for a transcript, prepared remarks, presentation, financial spreadsheet, supplement or slides. Availability and timing vary. Microsoft says prepared remarks would be posted immediately after the call until the complete transcript was available, and that the replay and transcript could be viewed on its IR site.
A transcript can clarify what management said, but it is not the same record as the release or a regulatory filing. Keep each document labeled by type and period so a transcript from one quarter is not accidentally paired with a release from another.
6. Reconcile the numbers before drawing a conclusion
Compare the release and call using the same fiscal period, currency, scale and accounting basis. A figure described as “in millions” cannot be compared directly with one shown “in billions” without rescaling. Confirm whether a percentage is year-over-year, sequential or a margin, and whether guidance refers to the next quarter, full year or another interval.
Separate GAAP measures from non-GAAP measures. Microsoft’s FY2026 Q4 earnings-call transcript states: “The non-GAAP financial measures provided should not be considered as a substitute for or superior to the measures of financial performance prepared in accordance with GAAP.” Treat adjusted earnings, adjusted operating income, constant-currency growth and similar measures as supplemental. Read the company’s reconciliation to understand which costs or gains were excluded.
What each earnings document proves
| Record | What it is useful for | What it does not prove by itself |
|---|---|---|
| Earnings release | Official headline results, management commentary, selected tables and guidance for the stated period. | That every number is filed, audited or calculated on a GAAP basis; check labels and reconciliations. |
| Investor call webcast | The live or recorded presentation and question-and-answer session, with the event date and time. | That a replay is still available or that spoken figures replace the written release. |
| Prepared remarks | The scripted portion of management’s presentation, often available before a full transcript. | The complete question-and-answer discussion or later corrections. |
| Transcript | A searchable record of the call, including questions and answers when the issuer provides a complete version. | That wording is a filed financial statement; verify material figures in the release or filing. |
| Presentation or slides | Charts, operating metrics, segment details and strategy points presented with the event. | That every chart uses the same definitions or period as the release; inspect footnotes. |
| Supplement or spreadsheet | Additional tables, segment data or calculation detail. | That the file is current; confirm its period and publication date. |
| SEC or other regulatory filing | Regulatory disclosure, required exhibits and the issuer’s filed financial information for the applicable jurisdiction. | That it contains the full narrative of the investor call or all non-financial presentation material. |

How to verify an SEC-linked disclosure
For a U.S. SEC filer, start with the issuer’s IR page and follow its filing link. The company may provide a separate “SEC filings” area or identify the filing in the earnings release. Confirm the filing date, form, reporting period and exhibits. An issuer statement that a release will be furnished on Form 8-K is evidence about that issuer’s process, not a universal rule for every company.

Read the filing itself when you need regulatory language, filed financial statements or exhibits. Do not assume that a press release attached to a filing has the same scope as the entire filing. Conversely, do not assume that a filing contains the transcript, presentation or every metric discussed on the call.
How to handle GAAP and non-GAAP differences
Start with the reported measure
Locate revenue, operating income, net income, earnings per share and cash-flow figures on the company’s reported basis. Note whether the table is labeled GAAP, IFRS or another statutory framework used by the issuer.
Then inspect the adjustment table
For an adjusted measure, find the reconciliation to the closest reported measure. Identify each adjustment, its tax treatment and whether the company presents a per-share effect. Do not add an adjusted figure from the call to a GAAP figure from the release or compare an adjusted margin with a reported margin.
Match the comparison period
A quarter-over-quarter change, a year-over-year change and a full-year outlook answer different questions. Write down the numerator, denominator and period before calculating a percentage yourself. If the company changes a metric definition, use the restated comparison supplied by the issuer or label the comparison as not directly comparable.
Third-party hosting: when it is still official
Many issuers use outside infrastructure for IR pages, webcast players or document delivery. A vendor-hosted page can be part of an official experience when the company’s own IR site links to it and the page identifies the same issuer, event and period. The SEC-hosted annual report reviewed for this workflow describes an IR content network that can include news, stock data, fundamentals, regulatory filings and corporate-governance information, illustrating why hosting alone is not a sufficient authenticity test.
If you reach a page through a search result, navigate back to the company’s IR site and confirm that it links to the same page. Check the issuer name, event title, dates and document list. A generic webcast URL with no issuer context should not be treated as verified.

Common failure cases and fixes
The search result shows a news article but no release
Search the company name with investor relations and open the issuer’s IR domain. Use the IR site’s News or Quarterly Results section to locate the original release.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
The event page lists several quarters
Filter by fiscal year or quarter, then compare the event date with the release date. Open the individual event rather than using a landing page that mixes archived calls.
The call time is unclear
Read the time-zone label on the event page and convert it with a reliable time-zone tool or your calendar. If no time zone is stated, do not present a converted time as certain; look for the release, calendar invitation or issuer announcement that supplies it.
The webcast player says the event is unavailable
Check whether the call is upcoming, whether registration is required, and whether the replay window has expired. Return to the event page for a transcript, prepared remarks or presentation. Availability differs by issuer.
The transcript and release appear to disagree
First check period, units, currency and whether one figure is GAAP while the other is adjusted. Then read the transcript context: a speaker may be discussing a forecast, a segment or a rounded number. Use the filed or published table for the precise reported figure and label any spoken estimate as such.
A presentation contains a number absent from the release
Read the slide footnote and supplemental table. Determine whether the number is an operating metric, a non-GAAP measure, a pro forma calculation or a different period. Do not treat its absence from the release as evidence that it is wrong, but do not treat a slide alone as a filed statement.
Best Value
An old replay link still opens
Verify the event title, date and reporting period on the page. An accessible player does not prove that it is the latest call or that its content remains complete. Record the archive date and use the issuer’s current event index to confirm identity.
Examples of well-organized issuer event pages
Issuer layouts vary, but several official examples show the records a reader may find together. Meta’s archive connects a release, presentation, transcript and webcast. JPMorganChase groups a release, presentation, supplement, transcript, call and Form 10-Q for an earnings event. DoubleVerify lists a release, webcast, transcript, financial spreadsheet and slides. Use these patterns as a checklist when navigating another company’s site, not as a requirement that every issuer publish the same package.
Microsoft’s call materials illustrate a staged publication process: prepared remarks may appear immediately after the call while a complete transcript becomes available later. Mastercard’s Q2 2026 event illustrates a limited replay window, with the issuer stating that the replay will remain available for 30 days. Both details are event-specific and should be confirmed on the current issuer page.

Build a clean record for later comparison
For each event, keep one note or spreadsheet row containing the issuer, fiscal period, period-end date, release date, call date and time zone, document links or filenames, currency, units, GAAP or non-GAAP label and replay status. Add the filing form or jurisdiction when applicable. This prevents a common error: comparing a release from one quarter with a transcript or slide deck from another.
When you quote management, preserve the speaker’s wording and identify that it came from the call transcript. When you quote a financial result, prefer the release or filing table and include the period and units. If a source does not state a value or definition, mark it as unavailable rather than filling the gap with an estimate.
When the materials are still incomplete
It is normal for an issuer to publish the release first, the webcast recording later and the transcript after that. State exactly what is available: for example, “release posted; webcast scheduled,” or “replay available; transcript not listed.” Do not infer that a missing transcript means the call did not occur, or that a missing replay means the event was canceled.
If the issuer’s IR page and a filing appear to use different dates, check whether one date is the release announcement and the other is the filing date. If the period labels differ, check the company’s fiscal calendar and the filing’s reporting period before deciding that the records conflict.
A practical decision rule
Use the issuer IR event page to establish identity, the release or filing to establish reported figures, the webcast or transcript to establish what management discussed, and reconciliations to interpret adjusted measures. Only call two materials comparable after their issuer, period, date, units, accounting basis and event status match.
