Where to find Monarch’s Vestige and how to claim it
- Go to the Abbey Entrance beacon in the Ruins of Mammon and proceed through the Kingdom of Fools village.
- Find and use the Strange Village Key to open the central gate. The guides agree that the key opens this gate, but not on how to obtain it: NerdsChalk describes a coffin behind the houses and an enemy encounter, while AllThingsHow describes breaking a wooden barrier and opening a chest in a hut. Check both the coffin area and huts for the relevant interaction rather than assuming one pickup route.
- Pass through the gate and drop into Bor’s arena.
- Defeat Bor, the Deluded Monarch. Guides report that he drops Monarch’s Vestige.

How to upgrade Monarch’s Vestige
- Find the Etching Needle. The cited guide places it in a bone chest on the route toward Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods: after spotting Ruk beyond a bridge, drop through an opening and turn right before the tunnel.
- Take the Etching Needle to Franz at the Tarforge in Marrow Keep.
- Equip Monarch’s Vestige and defeat enemies to earn Tarstone XP for it.
- Return to Franz and spend Coins to increase its level.
The guides do not provide verified Coin costs for each level. NerdsChalk notes an August 22 balance patch affecting Tarforge costs and enemy gold drops, but does not establish precise costs here; amounts may depend on the current game build.
Is Monarch’s Vestige missable?
The cited guides establish a route to Bor and report Monarch’s Vestige as his reward, but they do not establish whether the item can be permanently missed. If you have already passed through the village, revisit the central gate area and check whether the Strange Village Key or access to Bor remains available in your current save.

Is Monarch’s Vestige worth upgrading?
Upgrades extend the reported Phantom effect from the base activation to four shots, then eight, and finally a permanent infusion. Whether that investment is worthwhile depends on how often you use the Sidearm and whether you value conserving Resolve or extending the effect.
