Its confirmed unlock routes include campaign progression, challenges, achievements, and edition rewards; weapon cosmetics are sold or unlocked as sets. The detailed names below come from a third-party list last updated October 3, before release, so check the live Barracks and store for current availability and requirements.
What is confirmed about E-Day skins
The Coalition’s official multiplayer overview confirms more than 60 character skins at launch, spanning COG and Locust characters. It says every major character and skin appearing in Campaign can be unlocked on day one, with more characters and skins added each season. That launch count is not a complete official list of names.

The studio describes several ways to earn cosmetics: campaign progression, seasonal and event challenges, achievements, and other multiplayer progression. Weapon cosmetics are offered as full sets, rather than separate purchases for each eligible weapon. Base-character unlocks and character skins are different things: unlocking a character does not necessarily unlock every look for that character.

Campaign, Foundations, and achievements
Campaign progression can unlock characters and campaign-associated skins. The Coalition also says some campaign achievements unlock base characters. Foundations challenges are non-expiring tutorial challenges that mainly award base characters.

Achievements award multiplayer Player Titles, and some also grant customization items. The four Mastery achievements each award a Legendary Character Skin. The overview names the Gears-legacy challenge as Dead Serious.
Seasonal and event challenges
The announced seasonal structure includes 20 challenges per season across Versus and Horde Siege. Completing challenges can award poses, weapon skin sets, banners, emblems, icons, and base characters. Challenges expire at the end of their season; the Coalition says seasonal rewards may return to the Barracks for Coins or Iron. Limited-time events are planned to offer five challenges with themed customization items. Check the current in-game challenge and event pages for active requirements.
Weapon skin sets
When a weapon skin set is unlocked or purchased, the Coalition says it applies to the full set of eligible weapons. The official overview does not provide a complete named inventory of weapon sets.

It also reports three real-money sets—Luke Preece, Ride the Lightning, and Never Fight Alone. Check the in-game store for current listings and prices.

Beta rewards: available only to players who earned them
The beta has ended, so its challenges cannot now be completed for the first time. The Coalition’s official beta FAQ said earned rewards would appear in players’ launch inventory. Its listed rewards were:
- Blast Damage Mags (Epic Character Skin): reach Player Level 20.
- Crush the Bug Weapon Skin Set (Rare): extract from Horde Siege eight times on Infantry difficulty or higher.
- Crush the Bug Banner: get 25 headshots.
- Crush the Bug Emblem: perform 10 revives.
- Crush the Bug Icon: perform five Prototype Lancer Chainsaw Executions.
- Open Beta Medal and First in the Fight Player Title: launch the multiplayer beta.
The FAQ listed beta windows of August 6–10, 2026 for early access and August 13–17 for the open weekend. Those dates are past; the rewards apply to players who completed the relevant beta requirements.

Pre-order and Premium Edition cosmetics
Pre-order rewards
The official editions page says any edition pre-ordered included the Legendary Exfil Dom Character Skin and Legendary Exfil Weapon Skin Set. The Dom skin applies to Dominic Santiago in Horde Siege and Versus; the weapon set applies to eligible weapons in those modes. This describes the pre-order offer, not a way for someone who did not pre-order to claim it now.
Premium Edition Emergence pack
The official page lists these Emergence pack cosmetics:
- Death’s Rendezvous Marcus Fenix (Legendary Character Skin)
- Bloodied Hunter Tai Kaliso (Epic Character Skin)
- Death’s Rendezvous (Legendary Character Pose)

Premium Edition also lists four further seasonal customization packs and 1,000 Iron. Each seasonal pack is described as including two character skins, two weapon skin sets, two poses, one banner, one emblem, and one icon. The Xbox Store Emergence Customization Pack listing says the pack requires the game and is included in Premium Edition; its listed price is a store value that may change.
How to check what you can equip now
The third-party catalog recommends checking Versus → Barracks, selecting a character or weapon, and looking for whether an item is selectable or still shows a lock or progress indicator. Menu labels may differ in the live game, so use the current Barracks and item details as the authority for your account’s unlock state. For store or event items, inspect the current in-game listing rather than assuming a dated catalog reflects live stock.
What to expect after launch
The Coalition announced five themed post-launch multiplayer seasons, starting with Season 1: Emergence. Its overview says seasons are planned to bring maps, modes, characters, skins, Horde Siege classes, and events. The overview does not establish current dates or the contents of later seasons, so consult the live game for what is active.
