If your Galaxy A57 is freezing, restarting, displaying intrusive pop-ups, slowing dramatically, or losing battery unusually quickly, Safe Mode can show whether a downloaded app is responsible. Safe Mode starts the phone with third-party apps disabled. If the symptom disappears, remove recently installed or updated apps one at a time, restarting and testing after each removal. If the symptom continues, an app is less likely to be the cause and you should investigate system software, storage, settings, or hardware instead.
What Safe Mode tells you
Safe Mode is a diagnostic startup, not a repair tool. The Galaxy A57 loads Android and Samsung system components but prevents downloaded third-party apps from running. A “Safe mode” label appears in the lower-left corner of the screen. Your personal data remains on the phone, but some widgets and app-based features may be unavailable while the mode is active.

The result is useful because it separates two broad possibilities:
- The problem stops in Safe Mode: a downloaded or otherwise third-party app is likely involved.
- The problem continues in Safe Mode: an app is less likely to be responsible. Look at system updates, settings, available storage, overheating, or possible hardware faults.
Safe Mode does not identify the exact app automatically. You confirm the culprit by removing candidates individually and checking whether the original symptom stays gone.

Before you start
Record the symptom
Write down what happens and when it happens. Note whether the phone freezes after unlocking, shows ads on the home screen, reboots during a particular task, becomes hot, or loses battery while idle. This gives you a consistent test after each uninstall.
Protect important data
Safe Mode and a normal uninstall are designed to be reversible, but back up photos, contacts, messages, and authenticator information before making broad changes. Do not jump directly to a factory reset. Samsung warns that a factory reset erases all phone data and settings.
Know that menus can vary
Samsung says screen availability, menu names, and settings can vary by wireless provider, software version, and model. The Galaxy A57 continues to receive One UI updates, so the wording may differ slightly from the labels below. The current software notice for model SM-A576B reports Android 17, One UI 9, build A576BXXU6BZIE, released October 12, 2026, with a September 5, 2026 security patch.
How to start the Galaxy A57 in Safe Mode
- Open the power controls. Swipe down from the top of the display with two fingers to open Quick Settings, then tap the Power icon. Alternatively, press and hold the Side/Power and Volume down buttons until the power controls appear.
- Press and hold Power off. On the power menu, touch and hold the Power off option. Do not just tap it.
- Select Safe mode. When the Safe mode option appears, tap it and confirm. The phone restarts with third-party apps disabled.
- Verify the startup. Look for the words Safe mode in the lower-left corner. If the label is missing, the phone may have restarted normally; repeat the procedure and hold Power off until the option appears.
The first Safe Mode restart may take a little longer than usual. That is expected. Do not judge the app problem until the phone has finished starting and you can reproduce the conditions that normally trigger it.
Test the original problem while Safe Mode is active
Use the phone long enough to check the same activity that caused trouble before. For example, if the A57 froze while browsing, use the browser and leave the phone idle for the same period. If pop-up ads appeared on the home screen, lock and unlock the phone and wait. If battery drain was the issue, observe the phone during a comparable idle interval.

Some downloaded apps will not open in Safe Mode, so their absence is not itself proof that one particular app is guilty. The meaningful observation is whether the system-level symptom—freezing, crashes, unexpected restarts, severe slowness, intrusive ads, or unusual battery drain—still occurs without third-party apps running.
If the symptom disappears
Treat a downloaded app as the leading suspect. Continue with the one-app-at-a-time removal process below. Avoid deleting several apps together, because you would lose the ability to identify which removal fixed the problem.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →If the symptom remains
An app is less likely to be the cause. Check for pending Android or One UI updates, unusually low free storage, recently changed system settings, overheating, or physical damage. Samsung support is the appropriate next step if the problem persists after those checks. Do not keep uninstalling unrelated apps simply because Safe Mode did not help.
How to identify the problem app
Start with candidates that have the strongest connection to the timing and behavior of the fault. Use the following order rather than guessing from an unfamiliar name alone.
| Evidence | Why it matters | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Installed immediately before the symptom | A new app is a plausible trigger when the fault began soon afterward. | Place it near the top of the removal list. |
| Updated shortly before the symptom | An update can introduce a crash, excessive background activity, or unwanted advertising. | Check the app’s update timing and test it first if the dates match. |
| Unrecognized downloaded app | Unfamiliar software deserves verification, especially if it displays ads or requests broad access. | Check its publisher and permissions before uninstalling. |
| Third-party app tied to the behavior | Launchers, cleaners, keyboards, VPNs, accessibility tools, and overlay apps can affect the whole interface. | Test one such app at a time, preserving any settings you may need. |
| Core Samsung or Android component | System components may have unfamiliar names but are required for normal operation. | Do not remove it merely because its name is unfamiliar. |
Publisher legitimacy and requested permissions are useful clues, not proof. The strongest confirmation is that the original symptom stops after one candidate is removed and remains absent during a normal restart and ordinary use.

Uninstall candidates from Safe Mode
- Open the app list. In Safe Mode, go to Settings > Apps. The exact layout can vary slightly with the installed One UI version.
- Choose one candidate. Begin with a recently installed or updated downloaded app, or one you do not recognize after verifying that it is not a Samsung or Android component.
- Remove it. On the app’s information screen, tap Uninstall and confirm. If only Disable is available, read the special-access section below before changing anything.
- Restart normally. Restart the phone after that single removal. Do not move directly to another uninstall without testing.
- Reproduce the original symptom. Use the same workflow you documented earlier. If the problem remains, return to Safe Mode and remove the next candidate.
- Stop when the evidence is clear. When one removal makes the symptom disappear and it stays gone after normal use, keep the app uninstalled. You can contact its publisher later if you need an explanation or a data export.
Google Android Help recommends removing recently downloaded apps one by one, restarting normally after each removal, and checking whether that removal solved the problem. This sequence preserves a clear cause-and-effect trail.
When an app will not uninstall
Check device-administrator access
An app with device-administrator privileges may block a normal uninstall. Open Settings and search for Device admin apps or review the security and special-access areas in your version of One UI. Revoke the app’s administrator privilege only after confirming that it is the downloaded app you intend to remove, then return to Settings > Apps and try Uninstall again.
Review other special access
Overlay, accessibility, notification-access, or VPN privileges can give an app unusual control over the interface or network traffic. These privileges do not always prevent removal, but they can explain pop-ups or behavior that continues after the app appears closed. Inspect the app’s permissions and special access before deciding whether it is safe to keep.
Do not force-remove system components
Do not use an unfamiliar name as the sole reason to remove a package. Samsung and Android components can have technical names and may be essential to calls, updates, security, or the user interface. If the uninstall control is unavailable for a component you cannot confidently identify, leave it installed and seek Samsung support.
If the app was installed outside the usual app store
Downloaded installation files and unofficial stores deserve extra caution. Preserve evidence such as the app name, publisher, and permissions if you may need support. Remove the app through the normal Settings screen whenever possible rather than using an unknown “cleaner” or removal utility.

Exit Safe Mode and restore normal use
Restart the phone
Press and hold the Side/Power and Volume down buttons to open the power controls, then tap Restart. After the reboot, the Safe mode label should be gone and downloaded apps should be available again.
Use the notification option when available
Samsung also documents turning Safe Mode off from the Safe mode is on notification when that control is shown. Tap the notification and follow the restart prompt.
Restore missing widgets
Widgets may need to be placed on the home screen again after leaving Safe Mode. This does not mean the widgets or their underlying apps caused the original fault; Safe Mode temporarily prevents some app-based home-screen elements from loading.
Use Device care to prioritize candidates
The Galaxy A57 user guide’s Settings > Device care tools can help you decide what to test first. Device care can identify apps using excessive battery power, clear unnecessary files, close background apps, and scan for malware. These checks are useful for prioritization—for example, an app with unusually high background battery use may deserve earlier testing—but they do not replace Safe Mode and one-at-a-time confirmation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBattery clues
Look for a downloaded app that is consuming far more power than expected while you are not actively using it. Compare the timing with the start of the problem and avoid treating ordinary high use during video, navigation, or gaming as evidence by itself.

Storage clues
Very low free storage can cause slowness or failed operations independently of any app. Clear unnecessary files through Device care before drawing a conclusion from performance symptoms, but keep the original app timeline in your notes.
Malware scan clues
A scan can provide another reason to inspect an unfamiliar app, particularly one associated with pop-ups. Confirm the publisher and permissions before removal; a scan result alone does not establish which app caused every symptom.
Decision guide: what to do after Safe Mode
| Observation | Best next action | Data risk |
|---|---|---|
| Problem disappears in Safe Mode | Uninstall recent or suspicious downloaded apps one at a time; restart and test after each. | Low and reversible, provided you have app data backed up. |
| Problem remains in Safe Mode | Check updates, storage, settings, heat, and hardware; contact Samsung support if it continues. | Low until you choose a broader reset. |
| One uninstall fixes the problem | Keep that app removed and monitor normal use. Reinstall only if its publisher provides a trustworthy update and you have a reason to retest. | Usually limited to that app’s local data. |
| Cannot uninstall a suspected app | Review device-administrator and special-access privileges; seek Samsung support rather than deleting system files. | Low if you avoid unsupported removal methods. |
| Nothing else works | Back up first, then consider Samsung’s recovery or factory-reset guidance. | High for a factory reset: all phone data and settings are erased. |
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Holding the wrong control: tapping Power off simply shuts down. Touch and hold it until Safe mode appears.
- Assuming Safe Mode repaired the phone: it only disables third-party apps for diagnosis.
- Removing several apps together: this hides the cause. Use one candidate, one restart, and one test cycle.
- Deleting a system component: unfamiliar names are not proof of malware. Verify the publisher and package before removal.
- Testing a different symptom: reproduce the original workflow so the comparison is meaningful.
- Forgetting to restart normally: an app that cannot run in Safe Mode may appear harmless until the phone returns to normal startup.
- Resetting without a backup: a factory reset permanently erases data and settings from the phone.
When to escalate beyond app removal
Contact Samsung support when the symptom occurs in Safe Mode, the phone repeatedly fails to start normally, an essential component cannot be identified, or a suspected app retains administrator control after you follow the supported settings path. Have your model information, software build, symptom timeline, and the steps already attempted available.

For the SM-A576B software notice dated October 12, 2026, the reported software is Android 17 with One UI 9, build A576BXXU6BZIE, and a September 5, 2026 security patch. If your A57 shows a different build, use the labels on your phone and the support instructions for your region rather than assuming every screen is identical.
A factory reset is an escalation, not a first-line app test. Back up your data, verify that you can sign back into important accounts, and understand that the reset removes all phone data and settings. If the problem survives a clean reset, that points away from an ordinary downloaded-app conflict and toward a system or hardware issue requiring support.
