To review Galaxy AI controls, open Settings > Galaxy AI, choose a listed feature, and turn off the switch that feature provides. Samsung lets you disable many Galaxy AI functions separately, but there is no universal switch that removes every AI-powered behavior. Some functions are built into apps or system features and cannot be turned off.
Do not assume Galaxy AI is the cause of a fast-draining battery. Samsung’s published support information does not establish that Galaxy AI generally increases battery use, compare the power draw of individual features, or promise a particular saving when one is disabled. First check your phone’s own battery-usage details, then change one setting at a time so you can tell what actually helped.

What you can and cannot switch off
Samsung’s Galaxy AI support overview says many functions can be disabled individually from the phone’s settings. It also says some AI functions are integrated into specific apps or system functions, so those functions do not have an off switch. In practice, the menu is a collection of feature-specific controls rather than a single “disable Galaxy AI” command.

The exact list is not permanent or identical on every Galaxy phone. Samsung’s support page, updated 12 October 2026, says availability can depend on your region or country, operating system, One UI version, model and mobile carrier. A function may also require a Samsung account, an internet connection, a supported language pack or a particular device. Treat the menu on your own phone as the authoritative list for that model and software release. See Samsung’s current overview at Samsung Galaxy AI support.

That variation explains why instructions copied from a different Galaxy model can be misleading. A Galaxy S-series phone, a foldable and a tablet may show different entries, while two phones with the same model name can differ after a regional firmware or carrier update. A feature can also be renamed, moved into an app, or added in a later One UI release. If a menu item is absent, do not infer that it is running invisibly or that your phone is broken.
Step 1: Open the Galaxy AI controls
- Open Settings.
- Tap Galaxy AI. On supported software, this page lists the AI functions available to your device.
- Tap the individual feature you want to review.
- Use the switch, checkbox or other control shown on that feature’s page. Turn off only the functions you no longer want.
Menu wording and placement can change with a One UI update. If you do not see Galaxy AI in Settings, use Settings search for “Galaxy AI” or search for the name of the specific function. A search result can reveal a control that is nested inside another settings category, but the options still depend on the model and installed software.
Take a screenshot or note the original state before changing anything. This makes it easier to reverse a test and avoids confusing a disabled feature with a temporary app error. If a switch asks you to confirm, read whether it applies to one function or to a processing option inside that function.
Why there is no master switch
Galaxy AI is a group of capabilities, not one background process with one universal shutdown control. Samsung states that many functions can be deactivated one by one, while others are part of an app or system feature and cannot be switched off. Turning off every visible switch therefore may not remove every AI-assisted behavior on the phone.
Turn off only the switch you can identify
When a feature page offers several options, read the description before changing them. A switch may disable an assistant’s suggestions, a processing method or a particular function without removing the host app. A control labeled for data processing is different from a control that disables a feature. If a control is unavailable or greyed out, that generally means the feature is required by that app or system function rather than that another hidden master switch exists.
Disabling a feature can change convenience or results without affecting the rest of the phone. For example, an assistant may stop offering a suggestion while ordinary calling, messaging or photo editing continues to work. Re-enable the setting if a workflow you rely on disappears; there is no need to reset the entire phone.
Step 2: Check whether the phone actually blames an AI feature
Anecdotal reports of battery drain do not show which process is using power on your phone. Before changing several settings, inspect the built-in battery report:

- Open Settings and go to Battery and device care (the wording can vary by model and software).
- Tap Battery to view battery information, recent usage and power-management options.
- Open the usage detail or app list and look for the apps or services consuming the largest share during the period in which the battery fell quickly.
- Note the time span, screen-on time and network conditions. A short session with a bright display, weak signal or active 5G connection is not directly comparable with an idle overnight period.
Some Galaxy versions show a graph, a percentage list, or a link to more usage details rather than exactly the same labels. Read the period covered by the graph: a list covering the last few hours answers a different question from one covering a full charge. Also distinguish battery percentage used by an app from the app’s share of total use. A small percentage may still be normal if the phone was barely used.

Samsung describes Device Care’s battery information and power-saving tools at Keep your Galaxy phone or tablet from slowing down with Device Care. Samsung also cautions that available settings differ by model and software. Your phone’s report is more useful than assuming that every AI feature has the same power cost.
A controlled way to test a suspected feature
Samsung has not published a measured percentage of battery saved by disabling Galaxy AI, and the reviewed support material does not compare individual AI features. If you want to test a suspicion on your own device, use a simple comparison:
- Record the current battery percentage, screen-on time and the top entries in the Battery usage list.
- Change one Galaxy AI setting, leaving display brightness, mobile network mode and frequently used apps as similar as practical.
- Use the phone normally for a comparable period, preferably at least a full day if your routine allows.
- Check the same battery-usage screen again. Look for a repeatable change in the relevant app or service, not just a different final percentage.
- Restore the setting if there is no meaningful difference, or continue testing only if the usage data points to that feature.
Do not compare a day spent recording video, navigating or using a weak-signal train journey with a quiet day at home. Temperature, a software update, a newly installed app and background syncing can change results even when the Galaxy AI setting is untouched. Repeating the comparison on similar days is more informative than treating one charge cycle as proof.

The “process data only on device” option is not a Galaxy AI off switch
Samsung’s English Galaxy Z Fold6 manual documents a Process data only on device switch in Galaxy AI settings and notes that some features require online processing. This is a model-specific example, not a control that every Galaxy phone has. Where present, it controls where eligible processing occurs; it does not disable Galaxy AI as a category and does not guarantee that all network communication or battery use stops.
On a phone that offers this option, turning it on can affect whether a supported function works without an internet connection, but the manual’s presence of the setting does not establish a battery-saving amount. Some operations can still use the processor heavily when performed locally. Conversely, online processing can involve network activity without proving that it is the main reason for a battery drop.
Do not look for this option as a replacement for the individual feature switches. If your phone shows it, read the accompanying description and consider the trade-off between on-device processing and features that require online services. The manual is available at Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 User Manual.

- Confirm the model. Some AI functions are limited to supported Galaxy devices.
- Check the software. Open Settings > Software update > Download and install, if those labels are present, and install an update offered for your phone. Restart after the update and search Settings again.
- Check your region and carrier. Samsung says availability can vary by country, region and mobile carrier. A feature shown in another country’s support page may not be offered on your device.
- Check account, language and connectivity requirements. Some functions require a Samsung account, internet access or a supported language pack.
- Use the feature’s own settings page. An AI-assisted function may expose its switch inside the relevant app rather than under a top-level Galaxy AI page.
Install updates only through the phone’s normal software-update screen. An update can change both the feature list and the menu path, so check the settings again afterward. If a carrier controls the firmware, the release date and available functions may differ from Samsung’s pages for an unlocked model.
Because Samsung’s feature inventory changes with One UI releases, online descriptions and screenshots can become outdated. Compare what your phone actually shows with the current support information rather than forcing a setting path from an older model.
Other common causes of rapid battery loss
If the Battery screen does not identify a Galaxy AI-related app or service, investigate the causes Samsung documents for Galaxy phones. These checks are not proof that Galaxy AI is harmless; they are alternative explanations that can account for the same symptom.
Background apps
An app that remains active in the background can consume power even when its window is closed. Samsung provides controls for putting infrequently used apps to sleep or deep sleep. Open Settings > Battery and look for Background usage limits, Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps; the exact labels vary. Add only apps you can safely delay. Messaging, navigation, health and other time-sensitive apps may stop updating promptly when restricted.
Sleeping an app is a targeted test, not a blanket cure. Add one demonstrably active app, observe whether notifications or syncing change, and remove it from the list if the restriction causes a problem. A deep-sleep setting can delay activity until you open the app, so it is unsuitable for services that must respond in real time.
Samsung explains these controls in Sleeping apps on your Galaxy device. Use the Battery usage list first so that you target an app with evidence of unusual activity instead of putting every app to sleep.
5G and network conditions
Samsung identifies 5G service as a possible contributor to fast battery use, particularly when the phone is working hard to maintain a connection. That does not mean 5G is always the cause, and changing network mode can affect speed and coverage. If your usage report and circumstances point to mobile-network activity, review Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Network mode (labels vary) and choose an available mode that fits your needs. Test it separately from Galaxy AI changes.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Weak signal, frequent tower changes and hotspot use can also make a network session more demanding, so record where and how you used the phone when comparing results. Do not switch network modes solely because a Galaxy AI feature exists; make the change only when your usage pattern and battery report support that test.

Display and usage patterns
The screen can dominate daily consumption when brightness is high, the display stays on for long periods or demanding media is used. Device Care’s battery report helps distinguish screen time from app or network activity. Do not label normal screen consumption as an AI problem simply because the phone feels warm while you are using an AI-assisted app.
Heat is a clue, not a diagnosis. Charging, direct sunlight, gaming, camera use and poor signal can all make a phone warm. Note whether warmth and rapid percentage loss happen while the screen is active, while the phone is idle, or only during a particular app session.
Do not install a “battery fixer” from a pop-up
A warning that suddenly claims your battery is being drained may be an advertisement or a malicious prompt rather than a diagnosis. Samsung warns that some third-party apps display false battery-drain alerts to persuade you to download them. Avoid tapping an unfamiliar install button or granting broad permissions in response to such a message.
Close the pop-up, open the phone’s own Device Care tools and review unusual usage. Samsung also recommends using Device Care to scan for threats when investigating suspicious behavior. Its guidance on slow performance, intrusive ads and third-party apps is at Samsung Galaxy device is slow, freezes, or displays ads after installing third party apps.
A third-party optimizer cannot reveal a hidden Galaxy AI master switch. It may add notifications, run continuously, or create another source of battery use. Built-in reports are the safer first step because they are tied to the phone’s own power-management controls.

| What you observe | Best next step | What the result means |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy AI appears in Settings and a feature has its own switch | Turn off that feature only, then monitor Battery usage during a comparable period. | You have tested one identifiable control; no general battery saving is guaranteed. |
| Galaxy AI appears, but the function has no switch | Read the feature description and leave it enabled unless the phone offers another supported control. | The function may be integrated into an app or system feature that Samsung does not allow you to disable. |
| No Galaxy AI page is visible | Check model, software update, region, carrier, account, language and internet requirements. | The feature set may not be supported or may be located inside another app’s settings. |
| An app or service, rather than an AI entry, dominates Battery usage | Investigate that app, background activity and network conditions before changing AI settings. | The available evidence points elsewhere; test one cause at a time. |
| A pop-up urges you to install a battery optimizer | Dismiss it and use Device Care’s battery and security checks. | The warning may be deceptive and is not proof of a battery fault. |
When to stop changing settings
If battery use remains high after you have checked the usage report, limited an obviously active background app and tested network conditions, avoid repeatedly toggling unrelated Galaxy AI controls. Multiple changes erase the evidence needed to identify the cause. Keep a short record of battery percentage, screen-on time, top usage entries and network mode for each test period.
A persistent problem that is accompanied by shutdowns, swelling, abnormal heat or a battery percentage that collapses under light use may indicate a battery-health or hardware issue rather than a software feature. The settings described here cannot diagnose physical battery damage. At that point, use Samsung’s official support or service channels for your model and country instead of treating Galaxy AI switches as a repair.

The reliable conclusion is narrower than “Galaxy AI drains your battery.” Samsung provides individual controls for many functions and states that some integrated functions cannot be disabled. Its reviewed support pages do not establish a category-wide battery drain, quantify savings from turning off a particular feature or rank AI functions by power use. Use Settings > Galaxy AI to control what your phone actually exposes, and use Battery and device care to determine whether that change corresponds with your phone’s behavior.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there one switch to turn off all Galaxy AI on a Samsung phone?
No. Samsung says many Galaxy AI functions can be disabled individually, while some are integrated into apps or system functions and cannot be switched off. The available controls depend on your model, One UI version, region and carrier.
Where do I find Galaxy AI settings?
Start with Settings > Galaxy AI. If that page is not shown, use Settings search for “Galaxy AI” or for the specific feature. Some controls can be located inside the related app instead.
Will turning off Galaxy AI definitely improve battery life?
There is no Samsung-published percentage or feature-by-feature comparison proving a guaranteed saving. Check Battery and device care first, change one setting, and compare similar usage periods.
Recommended Free Tools
Why is a Galaxy AI feature missing from my phone?
Samsung says availability varies by operating system, One UI version, model, country or region, carrier, account, language and internet requirements. Install offered software updates and check the feature’s own app settings.
Does “Process data only on device” disable Galaxy AI?
No. On models that include it, the setting controls the processing location for eligible functions. It does not turn off Galaxy AI as a category and does not guarantee that network activity or battery use will stop.
Could 5G or background apps be causing the drain instead?
Yes. Samsung identifies 5G service and background activity as possible contributors. Review Battery usage, then test network mode or put an unusually active, nonessential app to sleep separately.
Should I install a battery-fixer app when a pop-up warns me?
No. Samsung warns that some apps use false battery-drain alerts to encourage downloads. Dismiss the message and use Device Care’s battery and security checks instead.
The Bottom Line
Open Settings > Galaxy AI and disable only the individual controls your phone provides. Because Samsung does not establish a universal Galaxy AI battery drain or promise a specific saving, verify the result in Battery and device care and investigate background apps, 5G and display use before changing more settings.
