Use the game’s own counters or map if it has them, and bring in a game-specific guide only for the clues you have not solved. “Rescue” is specific to games such as Astro Bot; other platformers may have different collectibles and objectives.
How to search a level without missing its hidden routes
Start without a guide and divide your search into manageable passes. The aim is not to assume every game hides items in the same places, but to make sure you have checked the level systematically.

- Clear the main route. Follow the path the game makes most obvious, collecting what you encounter and noting any visible counters.
- Check nearby branches. Look around corners, behind large objects, and down paths that split from the main route. Check above and below the usual jump line as well as at ground level.
- Read unusual terrain as a clue. Isolated ledges, conspicuous gaps, platforms that seem out of place, surfaces that look breakable, repeated visual markers, or a path continuing beyond the camera may be worth investigating. These are possibilities, not universal signals; use the game’s tutorial and controls to test them.
- Mark anything that seems out of reach. Record the location and what made it look inaccessible rather than repeatedly attempting the same jump.
- Do a cleanup pass. After exploring the level, revisit the marked spots and check the game’s completion counter or other progress display, if available.
This is a practical exploration method, not an officially prescribed formula. Some games use open areas, others use fixed-route stages, and their clues and collectible systems differ.

A spot that looks unreachable may be an ability-gated route rather than a secret entrance or puzzle. Keep a short note of the area, the obstacle, and any power that might change how you cross it. When you acquire a new movement ability, revisit those notes and test the relevant locations.
#1 Best Overall
- Tough-as-nails precision platforming action. Brutal, but fair levels designed to break you.
- Boss. Fights. Dark World levels so tough, you'll scream in the rain at a bus stop.
- A soundtrack that was once described by a Guitar Center employee as “hey, either buy the guitars or get out. We’re seriously going to call the cops!”
- n-game text languages: English, Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish (Spain).
- 3D!
Astro’s Playroom provides a concrete example: its Monkey Suit lets Astro climb steep walls. A wall that blocks progress before gaining that suit can therefore become a route to explore afterward. The game-specific example does not mean every platformer uses ability-gated collectibles; check each game’s own tutorials and mechanics.
How to keep track of what you have checked
A simple level-by-level record can save time, especially when a game has several routes or powers to revisit. Use the in-game map, counters, or checklist where available; there is no established tracking interface shared by all 3D platformers.

- Discover three of Marios grandest 3D adventures with Super Mario 3D All-Stars on Nintendo Switch!
- Includes Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy
- Optimised for Nintendo Switch with updated HD graphics, Joy-Con controls, as well as a music player featuring the epic soundtracks from all three games!
- Area or stage: name the place you searched.
- Progress: note any displayed collectible count or completion status.
- Routes checked: record branches or vertical paths you explored.
- Unresolved clues: describe the suspicious ledge, barrier, or gap and whether you lacked a relevant ability.
When you consult a guide, search by the exact game, level, and collectible name. For example, a Steam community listing includes player-created 101% collectible material for Raccoo Venture, showing that game-specific community guides exist—not that the listing’s instructions are verified. Check that a guide matches your platform and game version, and confirm its clues in the game.

What “rescue” means in Astro Bot
In Astro Bot, finding collectibles includes rescuing the scattered bot crew. Team Asobi studio head Nicolas Doucet described the mission as rescuing “the 300 bots crew who got scattered all over the galaxies.” Team Asobi also says more than 150 cameo characters are among the bots. These figures describe this game, not a genre-wide collectible standard.

PlayStation describes Astro Bot as a single-player PS5 3D action platformer with more than 50 planets. Its official page also notes support for DualSense vibration and trigger effects. Those details make it an example of a rescue-focused game spread across many areas, but they do not establish the location of individual bots or a complete route to them.

Astro’s Playroom shows how collectibles can connect to more than simple completion. Team Asobi studio director Nicolas Doucet described it as an action platformer across four worlds and 16 stages, with power-up suits and PlayStation-history artifacts, puzzle pieces, cameos, and Easter eggs. The developer’s 2020 post reports 96 puzzle pieces and more than 60 hidden cameos.
