On a computer, open Chrome’s three-dot More menu and choose History > History. Select Tabs from other devices on the left, then click a page to reopen it. On Android, use More > Recent tabs. Both devices must use the same Google Account, and Chrome sync must have History and tabs enabled.
What you need before looking for another device’s tabs
Chrome does not transfer a complete browser session as a file. It shows tabs and history made available through Chrome sync. For the list to be useful, check these prerequisites:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Chrome is signed in on the device where the tabs are open.
- The device you are using is signed in to the same Google Account.
- Chrome sync includes the History and tabs category.
- The tabs are still represented in the source device’s synced data. Google’s help describes access to synced tabs, not guaranteed recovery of a session that was closed, cleared or otherwise lost.
Google explains the relationship between account sign-in and Chrome synchronization in How sign-in with your Google Account works in Chrome. Signing in to a Google website in a browser is not, by itself, proof that Chrome sync is enabled.
It also helps to identify which device is the source and which is the destination. The source is the computer or phone that currently has the page open; the destination is where you want to continue reading. You do not need the devices to be on the same Wi-Fi network, and this feature is not a cable connection. Chrome makes the tab information available through the signed-in account when synchronization is configured correctly.

Keep the source device’s normal Chrome window open until the page appears on the destination. That gives Chrome a chance to publish the current tab state. If you are moving a page you cannot afford to lose, send it directly with Send to your devices as well as relying on the tab list.
Find tabs from another computer
The desktop menu is labeled Tabs from other devices. Use this route when you want to browse several tabs left open on a laptop, desktop or another Chrome installation.
- Open Chrome on the computer where you want to continue reading.
- Confirm that Chrome is signed in to the Google Account used on the other device. Select the profile area near the top of the window to check the account.
- Open the three-dot More menu.
- Choose History, then choose History again. This opens Chrome’s full History page rather than the short recent-history menu.
- In the left-hand navigation, select Tabs from other devices.
- Choose the listed device and click the page you want. Chrome opens that page in a new tab.
Google documents this desktop path in Get your bookmarks, passwords, and more on all your devices — Computer. If the left-hand option is missing or the device list is old, use the sync checks below before assuming the tabs are gone.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The list is most useful when you are continuing work across machines: for example, you can open a document on a desktop, leave it open, and later select that page from the laptop’s device entry. Select individual pages rather than expecting Chrome to recreate the exact arrangement of windows, pinned tabs or tab groups. The documented feature is a way to find and open synced pages, not a promise of identical window layout.
If several computers are signed in to the same account, look carefully at each device label. Open the page under the device that was actually in use. A familiar page title can appear more than once if it was open on multiple machines.
Find tabs from another device on Android
Android uses a different label. You will normally find cross-device tabs under Recent tabs, not under a desktop-style History sidebar.
- Open the Chrome app.
- Tap the three-dot More menu.
- Tap Recent tabs.
- Find the tab associated with the other device and tap it to open the page.
Android’s tab switcher can also search tabs, including tabs from other devices. Open the tab switcher, use its search control, and enter a word from the page title or address. The Android instructions and tab-management details are in Google’s device-sync help and Manage tabs in Chrome — Android.

Search by a distinctive word in the title or by part of the web address, then open the matching result. The Android interface may show local and other-device results together, so check the device heading before choosing a page.
Android’s wording is not an error or a different account system. Google’s desktop help and Android help simply expose the same general cross-device idea through different navigation. If you are looking for “Tabs from other devices” on a phone and cannot find it, use Recent tabs and the tab-switcher search instead.
Send one tab directly to another device
If you already know which page you want to move, sending it is faster than browsing a list of tabs. This workflow is separate from opening the cross-device tab history.

- Open the page in Chrome on the source device.
- Open More.
- Choose Cast, save, and share > Send to your devices.
- Select the destination device from the list.
- Open the notification or shared tab on the destination device.
Google says both devices must be signed in to Chrome with the same Google Account. See Share tabs in Chrome — Computer for the documented sending workflow.

This option is a better fit for a single urgent page, such as a form, article or checkout you want to finish on a phone. The cross-device history view is better when you need to inspect several tabs and choose among them. Sending one page does not turn Chrome into a full session-transfer utility; it simply targets the selected page and device.
If the destination does not appear, compare the Chrome profile account on both devices before trying again. The destination must be a Chrome installation signed in to the same Google Account, not merely a device where you opened Gmail in a browser.
Turn on the sync setting that makes tabs visible
Chrome syncs several kinds of information separately. For cross-device tabs, Google’s desktop instructions specifically point to the History and tabs control.
- On a computer, open Chrome’s More menu and choose Settings.
- Open You and Google.
- Select the signed-in account name.
- Turn on History and tabs.
- Repeat the account check on the device that has the tabs. It must use the same Google Account and have Chrome signed in.
The wording can vary slightly by Chrome release, but the relevant category is still the one named History and tabs. Google’s account-sync explanation is available at How sign-in with your Google Account works in Chrome. Google’s general computer sign-in guidance is also available in Sign in to Chrome — Computer.

Do not infer the setting from the fact that bookmarks or passwords appear on both devices. Chrome sync categories can be controlled separately, so those items may be synchronized while History and tabs is off. Open the account-specific sync controls and check the category explicitly.
After changing the setting, return to the destination’s tab view. The list may not update in the same instant as the switch; leave Chrome open on the source and destination while the account data becomes available. If the device still does not appear, continue with the account and passphrase checks rather than repeatedly opening the same menu.
Troubleshoot a missing, empty or stale tab list
The “Tabs from other devices” option is not shown on a computer
- Open Settings > You and Google > account name and verify that History and tabs is enabled.
- Check the profile menu and confirm that Chrome, rather than only a Google webpage, is signed in.
- Check the source device separately. A different account on that device will produce a different sync set.
- Return to History > History after correcting the setting. The desktop feature is documented in Google’s computer help page.
Make sure you opened the full History page. The short History menu under the three dots is not the same screen as History > History, and the cross-device navigation appears on the full page.
The list appears, but the other device is absent
Start with account identity. Compare the full Google Account shown in Chrome’s profile area on both devices. A browser can be signed in to one account for Gmail or Search while Chrome itself is using another profile, so do not rely on a familiar avatar alone.
Next, verify History and tabs on the source device. If that category was disabled there, Chrome has no current synced-tab data to display. The feature is not a cable-based connection between two nearby devices; both installations publish their data through the signed-in Chrome account.

If the source device has multiple Chrome profiles, check the profile that actually contains the open tabs. Signing in to the correct account in a different profile does not automatically expose tabs held in another profile. Switch to the profile with the tabs, confirm its account, and check its sync category.
The device is listed, but the page list is old
Check that the source device is still online and using Chrome with the same account. Then verify that History and tabs remains enabled on both sides. A stale list should be treated as the last synced view, not as a live mirror of every open window.
Google’s documentation does not promise a recovery copy for tabs that were closed, cleared or no longer represented in synced data. If the page is important, use Send to your devices while it is open instead of relying on later session recovery.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesDo not assume that a stale list means the destination has copied the source’s entire browser state. It may show a page that was last synchronized while the source was open, without preserving the source window’s current order or every recently changed tab.
You use a sync passphrase
Google’s Android help includes a specific limitation: when a sync passphrase is in use, sites visited on other devices are available only if their web addresses were typed into the address bar. That condition can make cross-device history look incomplete. It is not a guarantee that every open tab will be recoverable.
Because this is a documented sync limitation rather than an error message, first check whether the missing page was opened by typing its address. For the Android behavior, see Google’s Android device-sync help.
A passphrase therefore changes what you can expect from cross-device history. Do not treat an absent result as proof that the source page never existed; it may simply fall outside the condition Google documents for passphrase-protected sync.
The tab was opened in Incognito
Google says you cannot sign in to Chrome while browsing in Incognito mode. Do not expect Incognito tabs to appear in another device’s synced-tab list, and do not use the synced list as a way to preserve private browsing sessions. Google’s sign-in guidance is at Sign in to Chrome — Computer.
If a page matters, reopen it in a normal Chrome window and use a supported workflow such as a bookmark or Send to your devices. The cross-device list should never be treated as a private-session backup.
The source device was reset, cleared or the tab was closed
Cross-device tabs are a convenience feature, not a guaranteed backup or full device-transfer system. The cited Chrome help explains how to find tabs that are available through sync; it does not promise restoration after the source session has been erased, browsing data has been cleared or the tab is no longer represented in synced data. Check ordinary local history or any bookmark you created, but do not assume the cross-device list can reconstruct the entire old window.

This distinction matters when moving from an old phone to a new one. If the old phone is still usable, open Chrome, confirm the account and sync category, and send or bookmark important pages before resetting it. If it has already been wiped, Chrome’s cross-device view may not contain enough information to recreate the old session.
Choose the right Chrome workflow
| What you want to do | Chrome route | What must be true |
|---|---|---|
| Browse several tabs left open on another computer | More > History > History > Tabs from other devices | Matching Google Account and History and tabs sync enabled. Computer instructions |
| Browse another device’s tabs on Android | More > Recent tabs, or search in the Android tab switcher | Matching Google Account and available synced tab data. Android instructions |
| Move one page immediately | More > Cast, save, and share > Send to your devices | Both devices signed in to Chrome with the same Google Account. Share-tabs instructions |
Use the first method when you are choosing among several pages, such as research notes, work documents and reference articles left open on a desktop. Use the second when the destination is an Android phone and you want either a recent-device list or a search. Use the direct-send method when you already know the exact page and do not want to inspect a list.
What Chrome’s cross-device tab feature does—and does not do
What it does
- Provides a built-in way to open pages that are available from Chrome sync on another signed-in device.
- Offers a multi-tab browsing view on computers and a Recent tabs view on Android.
- Lets you send one selected page directly when you know the destination device.
- Works across the computer and Android workflows documented by Google, provided the account and sync requirements are met.
What it does not guarantee
- It is not a complete backup of every Chrome window or session.
- It does not make Incognito activity appear in the synced-tab list.
- It does not guarantee recovery after tabs or browsing data have been closed or cleared.
- With a sync passphrase, Google documents an address-bar condition for sites visited on other devices, so history visibility can be narrower than expected.
- It does not promise that window arrangement, tab order, pinned status or every tab-group detail will be reproduced on the destination.
Feature names can differ by platform: desktop help uses Tabs from other devices, while Android help uses Recent tabs and tab-switcher search. Follow the platform-specific path rather than looking for one identical menu on every device.
A quick checklist when you are switching devices
- On the old device, leave the required pages open in a normal Chrome window.
- Confirm Chrome is signed in to the Google Account you intend to use on the new device.
- Verify History and tabs under Settings > You and Google > account name.
- On a computer, open History > History > Tabs from other devices.
- On Android, open More > Recent tabs and use tab search if needed.
- For a single urgent page, use Send to your devices instead of waiting to browse the list.
- If nothing appears, compare account profiles first, then check sync settings and any passphrase or Incognito limitation.
For a planned move, work through the checklist before signing out of or resetting the old device. For an unplanned switch, start with the destination’s account profile and then inspect the source device if it is still available. This order separates the common account mismatch from the less common passphrase and data-loss limitations.
Frequently asked questions
Can I reopen tabs from an old computer on a new computer?
Yes, when the old Chrome installation is signed in to the same Google Account, History and tabs sync is enabled, and the tabs are still represented in synced data. On the new computer, use More > History > History > Tabs from other devices.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Why do I see history but not the other device’s open tabs?
History and tab synchronization are controlled through Chrome’s sync categories. Open Settings > You and Google > account name and verify History and tabs on both devices. Also make sure Chrome itself, not only a Google website, is signed in to the same account.
How do I move one tab instead of searching all my tabs?
On the source device, choose More > Cast, save, and share > Send to your devices, then select the destination. Both devices must be signed in to Chrome with the same Google Account.
Do Incognito tabs sync to another phone or computer?
Do not expect them to. Google says you cannot sign in to Chrome while browsing in Incognito mode, and the synced-tab feature is not a way to preserve Incognito sessions.
Will Chrome restore a complete closed window?
Google’s documented feature provides access to tabs available through sync. It does not guarantee restoration of a complete window after tabs were closed, browsing data was cleared, or the source device was reset.

Check the Google Account and History and tabs setting on both devices. If a sync passphrase is enabled, Google documents an address-bar condition for sites visited on other devices, which can make the cross-device history incomplete.
Best Value
Do both devices need to be nearby?
No nearby connection is specified for this feature. The important requirements are Chrome sign-in with the same Google Account and the relevant sync setting. The direct-send workflow also requires both devices to be signed in to Chrome with that account.
Why are the menu names different on my phone and computer?
Chrome uses platform-specific labels. Computers use Tabs from other devices in the full History page; Android uses Recent tabs and tab-switcher search.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the fastest way to find a tab from another computer?
On the destination computer, open More > History > History > Tabs from other devices, then select the device and page.
Recommended Free Tools
What must be enabled for Chrome tabs to appear on another device?
Both Chrome installations must use the same Google Account, and Chrome sync must have History and tabs enabled.
How do I find another device’s tabs on Android?
Open Chrome and tap More > Recent tabs. You can also search in Android’s tab switcher.
Can I send just one open page to another device?
Yes. Use More > Cast, save, and share > Send to your devices, then choose the destination signed in to the same Google Account.
Will Incognito tabs appear in the list?
No. Do not use synced tabs as a backup for Incognito activity.
Does Chrome guarantee recovery after I close or clear tabs?
No. The feature exposes tabs represented in synced data; it is not a guaranteed backup of erased sessions.
The Bottom Line
Use History > History > Tabs from other devices on a computer or More > Recent tabs on Android. The same Google Account and Chrome’s History and tabs sync setting are essential. For one known page, use Send to your devices; for closed, cleared or Incognito sessions, Chrome does not promise recovery.
