Find a Nintendo eShop deal on Nintendo’s official Sales and Deals page, then open the exact game listing to verify its price, what the offer covers, and when it ends. To complete the purchase, use an available payment method, apply any eligible Gold Points you already have, or redeem a compatible download code. An eShop card adds money to your account; it does not make the game cheaper.
How do I find Nintendo eShop deals?
- Open Nintendo’s official Sales and Deals section. Nintendo’s support navigation directs users there.
- Search for the exact game or browse the available offers. Nintendo eShop supports keyword searches and filters; open the game’s product details page to inspect its listing.
- Check the displayed price and the promotion’s terms on that specific listing. Confirm which game or edition the offer covers and whether an end date is shown.
- Before buying, make sure the listing and checkout apply to your account’s region. Catalog availability, prices, and payment options can vary by title and region.
Offers change over time. No particular discounted game, price, discount percentage, or end date is confirmed here, so rely on the live Nintendo listing rather than an old article or a remembered price. Compare a retailer-issued code only if its current total cost and compatibility with your account region are verified.

How should I compare offers?
Start with the live listing for the exact title you intend to buy. A search result or a general deals page can help you find a game, but the product details page is where you should confirm the price and the offer’s terms before checkout. Make sure you are looking at the intended game or edition rather than assuming every listing for a franchise has the same price or promotion. If Nintendo shows an end date, note it; if no date appears, do not guess when the offer will end.
Then compare the amount you would actually pay through each eligible route. For a direct purchase, use the displayed price and check which payment options your checkout offers. If considering a retailer-issued download code, verify that retailer’s current price, the code’s terms, and whether it is compatible with your Nintendo Account region. A price advertised elsewhere is not enough to establish that the code will work for your account or that it is the cheaper option after you account for the actual terms.

Finally, account for any eShop funds or eligible Gold Points you can use. These change how you pay, but they do not change the listing’s stated offer terms. Points may reduce the remaining amount due only when the game is eligible and checkout offers the Redeem Points option. An eShop Card supplies funds to spend; it is not a price cut. There is no universal best method because the listing, account region, available funds, points, and supported payment choices can differ.
What is the best way to pay for a deal?
The right option depends on what the listing supports, what funds or points you have, and whether you are buying directly or redeeming a code. These methods do different things:
| Method | What it does | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Direct eShop purchase | Purchases the game through its Nintendo eShop listing using an available payment method. | You want to buy the offer shown on the listing. |
| Eligible Gold Points | Offsets part of an eligible digital game or DLC purchase; any remaining amount still needs to be paid. | You have unexpired Gold Points and the purchase offers the points option. |
| Nintendo eShop Card | Adds funds for a purchase; it does not reduce the game’s price. | You need to add eShop funds before or during checkout. |
| Download code | Redeems a game or other content represented by a retailer-issued code. | You have a code that is valid for your account’s region. |
There is no universally cheapest or best route. Compare the actual listing price, any verified code price, applicable offer terms, and the payment options available to your account. Do not assume a code is cheaper or compatible simply because it is sold by a retailer.

Keep the distinction between these methods clear. A direct purchase buys the game from its eShop listing. A download code represents content to redeem, while an eShop Card adds a balance that can be used toward a purchase. Gold Points are a limited payment offset for eligible digital purchases, not a balance that automatically discounts every game. If a checkout does not present a particular option, do not assume it applies to that transaction.
How do I buy a game through Nintendo eShop?
- Open Nintendo eShop and search or browse for the game.
- Open the game’s detail page and review the price and offer terms.
- Choose the purchase option available on that page, then follow the confirmation screens.
- If you have a Gold Points balance and the purchase is eligible, look for the Redeem Points option. Choose how many points to apply.
- Pay any remaining amount with the funds or another payment method available in your region, then confirm the purchase. The download starts after confirmation.
Checkout options are not identical for every title or region. If an expected payment or points option does not appear, check the listing’s eligibility and the account’s region rather than assuming the offer is broken.
Before confirming, pause to review the transaction as a whole: the title and edition, the price currently displayed, any stated promotion terms, the points amount you chose to apply, and the remaining amount due. A sale price does not guarantee that every other payment option will be available, and a points balance does not mean points are eligible for every digital purchase. Use the options shown for that particular transaction.
After you confirm the purchase, Nintendo’s documented flow starts the download. If you are comparing a direct eShop purchase with a download code, decide which route you are taking before proceeding: the steps differ, and the code route requires you to redeem the code for the intended account. Do not buy a code based only on the assumption that it will follow the same checkout path as a listing purchased directly in eShop.
Can I still earn Nintendo Gold Points?
No. Nintendo ended the ability to earn Gold Points at 9:30 p.m. PDT on March 24, 2025. Older Nintendo explainers that describe earning points on purchases predate that change and should not be treated as current earning instructions.

This is a change to earning, not an instruction to discard points already in an account. If you had earned Gold Points before the cutoff, check whether any remain and when they expire. Do not count on a new purchase adding Gold Points to your balance; earning ended on the date and time Nintendo announced.
Can I use Gold Points I already earned?
Previously earned Gold Points remain redeemable until they expire. Nintendo Support says points expire on the last day of the month 12 months after they were earned. For example, points earned in a given month expire on the final day of the same month the following year. Check your point balance and expiry before relying on it at checkout.
Expiration is a practical part of comparing payment choices. Points are useful only if they are still valid, eligible for the transaction, and usable in the country or currency rules that apply to them. Check the balance and expiry rather than assuming a previously earned amount remains available indefinitely. Nintendo’s FAQ describes the expiry as the last day of the month 12 months after earning; it is not a rolling extension tied to each later purchase.

Can I use Gold Points on a sale game?
Gold Points can offset eligible digital game and DLC purchases, so they may be available for a sale game if that purchase qualifies and checkout presents the points option. They are not a separate discount that automatically applies to every sale listing. You choose how many eligible points to use, then pay any remainder.
Check for the Redeem Points option during checkout rather than calculating on the assumption that points will apply. If the option appears, choose the amount you want to use and review the remaining balance due. The sale’s listed terms and the points offset are separate considerations: verify the price and promotion on the listing, then verify point eligibility and payment choices on the transaction screen.
Do Gold Points work if I change countries?
Nintendo limits use to countries that share the currency in which the points were earned. A change to a country using a different currency can make your existing points unusable there. Gold Points are different from Platinum Points; do not assume the two balances have the same purchase eligibility or rules.
For that reason, account currency matters when comparing payment options. A point balance earned in one currency should not be treated as universally usable in every country. Before relying on points, consider the currency in which they were earned, the country where you are making the purchase, their expiry, and whether checkout accepts them for the selected digital game or DLC.
How do I add money with a Nintendo eShop Card?
- At checkout, select Nintendo eShop Card when that option is available.
- Enter the card’s 16-character code.
- Confirm the transaction and follow the remaining checkout screens.
The card provides funds to pay for a chosen purchase; it does not lower the listed price. Payment choices and the checkout flow can vary by region.

- Digital Card balances can be shared across Nintendo Switch, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS family of systems, but may only be used on a single Nintendo eShop account.
Think of a card as a way to fund the amount due, not as a deal on the game itself. First confirm the game’s live price and the offer terms. Then, if you need funds and the card option is available, enter the card code through the checkout flow and review the transaction before confirming. Do not confuse the card’s code with a download code: one adds funds, while the other redeems content.
How do I redeem a Nintendo download code online?
Online redemption requires a Nintendo Account that has already accessed Nintendo eShop on a Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch. If the account has not visited eShop on either system, complete that step before trying to redeem online.
- Sign in to Nintendo’s online code-redemption page with the Nintendo Account that will receive the content.
- Check the account displayed on the page to make sure it is the intended one.
- Enter the 16-digit download code and continue.
- Review the redemption and confirm it. Nintendo says it sends a confirmation email when redemption is complete.
Take care not to confuse a download code with an eShop Card code: the download code redeems content, while an eShop Card adds funds. If a code fails, first check that it was entered accurately, that the correct Nintendo Account is signed in, and that the code is compatible with the account’s region. Do not assume a code issued for one region will work with an account in another.
Recommended Free Tools
The prior eShop visit requirement is easy to overlook if you usually shop on the web. The Nintendo Account you use online must already have accessed eShop on Switch 2 or Switch. If it has not, do that first rather than repeatedly entering the code on the redemption page. When you sign in, verify the displayed account before submitting: redeeming to the wrong account would not be the same as adding funds to the account you meant to use.
For a code purchased from a retailer, check its regional compatibility and terms before buying. A legitimate retailer-issued code is not automatically suitable for every Nintendo Account region, and the mere presence of a code does not establish that its total cost beats the live eShop price. Compare only after confirming the code’s intended region and current price. No particular retailer price or program is established here.

- Exact listing: Verify the game or edition, current price, terms, and any stated end date on Nintendo’s live product page.
- Region and currency: Confirm that the offer, payment option, or code applies to your account’s region. Gold Points are also restricted by the currency in which they were earned.
- Final amount: Account for available eShop funds, points that checkout accepts, and any amount still due.
- Code type: Identify whether you have a content download code or a Nintendo eShop Card code; their purposes differ.
- Point expiry: Check the expiry date of existing Gold Points before counting on them to reduce the amount due.
A useful order is to confirm the title and offer first, check that the transaction is for the intended account and region, and only then decide how to pay. This prevents a common comparison mistake: treating a remembered sale price, an unverified code listing, or an old Gold Points explainer as if it settled the current transaction. The live listing establishes the offer details; the checkout establishes which payment options are available to you.

Nintendo Support says Gold Points expire on the last day of the month 12 months after they were earned. Check your balance and expiry before counting on points for a purchase.
Can I use Gold Points on a discounted game?
Possibly. Gold Points can offset eligible digital game and DLC purchases, but a sale listing is not automatically eligible. Look for the Redeem Points option during checkout and pay any remaining amount.
Does a Nintendo eShop Card make a game cheaper?
No. An eShop Card adds funds that can be used to pay for a purchase; it does not reduce the game’s listed price.

No. A download code redeems content, while an eShop Card code adds funds. Check which type you have before following the relevant checkout or redemption steps.
Will a retailer-issued download code work in any region?
Do not assume so. Verify the code’s region and compatibility with your Nintendo Account before buying or redeeming it. Prices and availability also vary by title and region.
The Bottom Line
Use Nintendo’s official Sales and Deals page to find offers, but trust the exact live game listing for its current price, terms, and any end date. Compare the final cost only after checking region compatibility and available checkout options. Existing Gold Points may help with eligible purchases until they expire, an eShop Card adds funds rather than reducing the price, and an online download code requires the right Nintendo Account and a compatible region.
