How to Find and Read Auditor Appointments and Financial Filings on NSE and BSE

To check an Indian listed company’s financial results or auditor appointment, search its exchange filings by issuer name or symbol, then open the full announcement and attachment. Before interpreting figures, confirm the period, whether the filing is original or revised, audited or unaudited, and standalone or consolidated. An exchange posting makes a disclosure available; it does not mean the exchange has verified its accuracy.

Where to find a company’s filings

Start with the issuer’s listed name or symbol. SEBI’s corporate-filings directory maps common categories, including financial results, corporate governance and shareholding patterns, to NSE and BSE filing pages. (The URL as supplied contains a space and is not a usable link.)

For NSE results, use the financial-results page, which accepts a company name or symbol and provides period filters and data-download/XBRL tools. NSE also provides an integrated-filing page and an annual-reports page. The available exchange interfaces and labels can change; follow the current exchange page for the issuer and period you need.

How to read a financial-results filing

Read the filing record before relying on a preview table or downloading figures. NSE’s integrated-filing interface and sample records display key context, including reporting period, audit status, reporting basis, submission or broadcast time, revision information, and links to details or XBRL data.

  1. Match the issuer. Check the listed company name and symbol so you do not confuse similarly named entities.
  2. Confirm the period ended. Establish which quarter, half-year or financial year the statements cover.
  3. Check the submission date and revision state. Note when the filing was submitted or broadcast and whether it is marked original or revised. If a later version exists, compare it with the earlier record rather than treating the first posting as final.
  4. Identify audit status. Results may be audited or unaudited. Do not describe unaudited figures as audited.
  5. Identify reporting basis. Standalone statements cover the company itself; consolidated statements include the company and its subsidiaries as presented in the statements. Do not compare one basis with the other as if they were equivalent.
  6. Open the complete record. Review the detail page, attachment and any XBRL record. A preview alone may not show all notes, statements or audit context needed to interpret the filing.

NSE’s sample integrated-filing record demonstrates where reporting period, audit status and reporting basis appear: NSE integrated filings.

How to find and assess an auditor appointment or change

Search the company’s corporate announcements for an auditor-related event. Read the announcement and its attachment, then cross-check the auditor’s identity and terms against the annual report and, where an appointment or reappointment is proposed, the AGM notice.

Appointment or reappointment

SEBI says the audit committee recommends the auditor’s appointment, remuneration and terms, and monitors the auditor’s independence and performance. AGM notices should disclose the terms of a proposed appointment or reappointment. These materials help establish what is being proposed and the stated terms; they are not a substitute for reading the company’s actual filing and shareholder documents. See SEBI’s October 18, 2019 circular on resignation of statutory auditors.

Resignation

For a resignation by a listed entity’s statutory auditor, SEBI says the company must disclose the detailed reasons provided by the auditor to the exchanges as soon as possible and no later than 24 hours after receiving those reasons. Read the auditor’s stated reasons in the filing rather than inferring them from the fact of resignation alone.

SEBI’s circular and later master circular also describe additional quarter-specific limited-review or audit-report conditions for resignations by statutory auditors of listed entities and material subsidiaries. Those conditions depend on the event and applicable rules. Check the current consolidated regulation and circular text before applying them to a particular resignation: the 2019 circular and May 2024 master circular.

What an exchange filing does—and does not—confirm

An exchange website is a channel for discovering and disseminating issuer disclosures. NSE states that company-uploaded information is displayed without the exchange verifying its adequacy, accuracy or veracity; the company is responsible for omissions, errors or misrepresentations in what it submits. Therefore, an exchange listing is not proof that the filing’s contents are correct. See NSE’s corporate-filings disclaimer.

For important conclusions, inspect the original source document, the signed auditor report, any revision history and related company materials. SEBI described the purpose of timely disclosure as enabling investors to make informed decisions in its October 18, 2019 circular. Timely publication supports access to information; it does not independently validate the information.

How to compare periods or an auditor change

Use a consistent checklist when comparing filings. Each item can reveal a difference worth investigating, but the comparison by itself does not establish fraud, negligence or legal noncompliance.

  • Filing date and whether the record is original or revised.
  • Reporting period and whether the statements are standalone or consolidated.
  • Whether the results are audited or unaudited.
  • Auditor identity and the stated appointment or reappointment terms.
  • The auditor’s opinion, including any qualification.
  • Any attached statement describing the impact of an audit qualification.

Use the issuer’s announcement, full statements, auditor report, AGM notice and annual report to resolve differences. For regulatory obligations tied to a resignation, consult the current applicable rules and circulars rather than relying on an older summary.
