The most dependable way to find Māori-made games is to begin with the developer’s own website, then follow its current platform links. That route separates released games from prototypes and from Māori experiences built inside another game. As of 2026, the clearest examples are Toroa: Skycall from Atawhai Interactive, Adrenalin Games’ web and mobile titles, and Ngā Motu, a Māori world created inside Minecraft.
Use the guide below to check authorship, release status, language and cultural content, and the correct way to play each title without assuming that every project mentioned by a studio is already downloadable.

What “Māori-made” means in this guide
“Māori-made” is used here when a source identifies Māori authorship, ownership or leadership. That is different from three related categories:
PC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute- Māori-led studio: a company identifies itself as Māori-owned or Māori-led, even when a particular project is still unreleased.
- New Zealand-developed game: a game made by a New Zealand developer or studio. It may contain no Māori authorship or subject matter.
- Māori-themed or Māori-world experience: a game includes te reo Māori, Māori concepts, settings or stories, but the available evidence does not establish that the whole project is Māori-made.
Keeping those categories separate prevents a common mistake: treating every game with a Māori character or word in its title as Māori-authored, or treating every Māori studio page as proof of a currently playable release.

1. Play Toroa: Skycall on the platform listed by its developer
What it is
Atawhai Interactive calls Toroa: Skycall its debut title. The studio describes a relaxing flight adventure across the Pacific that is grounded in te ao Māori. Players encounter te reo Māori in dialogue and story, and the soundtrack features taonga pūoro. Those are the developer’s stated creative elements; they are not a claim that every part of the game is a language lesson or a substitute for cultural education.
Release dates and platforms
The studio’s official press kit lists Steam for PC with a December 10, 2025 release and Xbox Series X/S with a June 25, 2026 release. Both dates are in the past as of October 2026, but storefront listings, editions and regional availability can change. Use the press kit to reach the developer’s current store links and confirm that the page you open is for the correct platform.
PC procedure
- Open Atawhai Interactive’s press-kit page and follow its current Steam link.
- On the Steam page, check the supported operating system, language information, age rating, system requirements and the purchase or install button shown for your region.
- Install through the official Steam client rather than a file-hosting site. If the store page offers more than one edition, read the contents before selecting one.
- After installation, launch from your Steam library. If te reo Māori dialogue or subtitles are configurable, look in the game’s language or accessibility menu; do not assume an English-only setting from the store’s default display.
Xbox procedure
- Use the Xbox Series X/S listing reached from the developer’s press kit.
- Confirm that the listing is available in your country and that it supports your console model. A backward-compatible Xbox One version should not be inferred unless the store explicitly says so.
- Review the edition, price, download size and language information displayed by Xbox, then install from the official store.
- If the game does not appear in search, return to the developer’s page. A changed listing, regional restriction or temporary delisting is more likely than a need to download an unofficial package.
2. Try Adrenalin Games’ Māori-language titles
Māori Pā Wars
Adrenalin Games describes Māori Pā Wars as a tower-defense game with English and te reo Māori options. Its official website says it can be played through the website and on Android and iOS. Because mobile listings and links can change, treat the studio site as the starting point and verify the app publisher, recent update date and permissions before installing.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Open the Adrenalin Games site and select the current Māori Pā Wars play or store link.
- For browser play, make sure the address remains on the developer’s domain or the official store it links to. Allowing a game to load in a browser is different from downloading an executable from an unrelated mirror.
- For Android or iOS, follow the store link supplied by Adrenalin Games. Match the developer name and icon with the studio’s page, read the current device requirements and install only from the official store.
- Launch the game and look for its language selector. The studio states that English and te reo Māori are available; the exact menu label may vary by version.
Tahi Two
Adrenalin Games presents Tahi Two as a matching or memory game that builds Māori vocabulary and knowledge. The available description does not establish a release date or a currently verified app-store listing, so use the studio’s site to determine whether it is playable in your region rather than relying on an old search result.
If a page describes Tahi Two as “coming soon,” a prototype or a project, record it as a lead—not as a game you can presently install. If a working play button or store listing is supplied, check the same details as for Māori Pā Wars: publisher identity, platform, language, permissions and update history.

3. Understand what Ngā Motu is before you look for it
Ngā Motu is not an independently sold game in the evidence available here. Microsoft’s New Zealand News Centre reported on August 29, 2024 that Piki Studios developed it in 2019 as a te ao Māori version of Minecraft. The article describes a Māori pā with elements including kūmara pits and waka, plus characters who introduce Māori concepts and vocabulary. In practical terms, you need access to the compatible Minecraft edition and then the world or experience, if it is still offered through the current Minecraft distribution system.
Microsoft attributes this observation to developer Whetu Paitai: “The purpose of these projects is to show how connected we are as people, on this big blue continent.” Read the full account at Microsoft New Zealand’s article.

Safe way to check current access
- Start with the Microsoft article and any current Piki Studios or Minecraft link it identifies. Do not use a random download labelled “Ngā Motu” as a substitute for an official listing.
- Check which Minecraft edition, device and account the listing requires. A world made for one edition may not open in another.
- Search the official in-game marketplace or the linked publisher page for the exact name Ngā Motu. Compare the creator name and screenshots with the description of Piki Studios’ Māori pā experience.
- If no current listing appears, treat the experience as historically documented rather than currently obtainable. The cited source does not provide a direct, up-to-date installation path.
This distinction matters for troubleshooting: an absent marketplace result does not mean your Minecraft installation is broken. It may mean the experience is no longer distributed, is limited to a particular edition or has moved to a different official route.
4. Find additional Māori-led studios without mistaking a project for a release
Metia Interactive
Metia Interactive’s official site identifies the Auckland studio as founded in 2003 by managing director Maru Nihoniho. It says the studio creates games combining universal themes with representations of Māori culture and lists Cube and SPARX among its work. The site describes SPARX as a free online self-help e-therapy tool; that description does not make it a game recommendation for clinical treatment, and no therapeutic outcome should be inferred.
Use Metia’s work list as a discovery route. Before telling someone to play a particular project, open its own current page and look for a live browser button, store listing or download instructions.

Tumeke Studio
Tumeke Studio’s About page describes the company as Māori-owned and Māori-led, founded by Edward Stanaway in 2025. It identifies Errata as the first step in the studio’s longer creative direction. That makes Tumeke an important studio to follow, but the description alone does not prove that Errata is publicly playable. Look for an official release page, demo link or store listing before promising access.

Hanga Maken Studio
Hanga Maken Studio’s About page describes a Wellington team focused on representation in games and on Māori and Pasifika storytelling interests. The page said its first commercial project was in development when it was reviewed. Development status can change, so check the studio’s current news or project page; do not describe an unreleased prototype as a downloadable game.
How to verify a game before you install it
Use this checklist whenever a search result, social post or video recommends a Māori game:
- Confirm authorship: does the official page identify the studio as Māori-owned, Māori-led or Māori-made, or does it only describe Māori content?
- Confirm the format: is it a standalone PC or console game, a browser/mobile title, a Minecraft world, a prototype, or a studio concept?
- Confirm the current route: follow the developer’s own link to Steam, Xbox, Google Play, the App Store, a browser page or Minecraft’s official marketplace.
- Confirm the date: distinguish a release date from an announcement date and from a historical development article.
- Confirm language claims: record exactly what is promised—te reo Māori interface, dialogue, subtitles, vocabulary, or cultural concepts—rather than describing the game as fully bilingual without evidence.
- Confirm region and edition: platform availability, pricing, age ratings and Minecraft compatibility can differ by country and edition.
- Avoid unofficial files: a missing store page is a reason to wait or ask the studio, not a reason to install an unknown executable or mobile package.

| If you want… | Start with… | Why | Check first |
|---|---|---|---|
| A calm exploration or flight adventure | Toroa: Skycall | Atawhai Interactive describes Pacific flight, te ao Māori grounding, te reo Māori story content and taonga pūoro. | Current Steam or Xbox listing, system requirements and regional availability. |
| Strategy and tower defense | Māori Pā Wars | Adrenalin Games identifies it as a tower-defense game and states that English and te reo Māori options are available. | Working browser link or current Android/iOS listing. |
| A short vocabulary or memory activity | Tahi Two | The studio describes matching play that builds Māori vocabulary and knowledge. | Whether an official playable release is currently offered. |
| A Minecraft-based cultural world | Ngā Motu | The Microsoft account describes a Māori pā experience inside Minecraft, including cultural concepts and vocabulary. | Current Minecraft edition and marketplace access; no direct installation path is supplied in the cited article. |
| Following future Māori-led projects | Tumeke Studio, Hanga Maken Studio and Metia Interactive | Their official pages identify studios, projects or prototypes that can lead to future releases. | A live demo, store page or download link before calling a project playable. |
What the participation statistic does—and does not—tell you
Manatū Taonga’s Cultural Participation Report 2025, based on a Verian survey, found that 14% of Māori respondents and 8% of non-Māori respondents had played a New Zealand video or computer game in the previous three months. The report defines New Zealand games as games created by New Zealand developers or studios.
Those percentages measure participation in New Zealand games generally, not in Māori-made games specifically. They cannot tell you how many respondents played Toroa: Skycall, Māori Pā Wars or Ngā Motu, nor can they establish that a game’s audience is Māori. Use the statistic as context for interest in locally made games, not as evidence of reach for any individual title.

Common access problems and the least risky fix
The official link opens but the game is unavailable
Check the country selector, platform and date first. A title may have separate PC and console pages, a regional release or a listing that has moved. Return to the developer’s official page and use its newest link; do not infer that a third-party mirror is legitimate.
The mobile app cannot be found
Search from the link on Adrenalin Games’ site rather than from a generic app-store query. Verify the developer name, icon and description. If the link is broken or the app is absent, report it to the studio or wait for a confirmed update instead of sideloading an unverified package.
A Minecraft world will not load
Confirm the edition, device and account that the official listing requires. If Ngā Motu does not appear in the official marketplace, the cited Microsoft article does not provide enough information to diagnose a local installation problem; it may simply no longer be distributed through that route.
The language setting is not obvious
Look in the title’s settings for language, audio, subtitles or accessibility. “English and te reo Māori options” can mean interface text, audio, subtitles or a combination. Use the developer’s exact wording rather than promising that every menu and line is translated.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

- Search by studio first. Open the official pages for Atawhai Interactive, Adrenalin Games, Piki Studios’ documented work, Metia Interactive, Tumeke Studio and Hanga Maken Studio.
- Classify the result. Mark it as released, browser/mobile, Minecraft experience, announced, prototype or studio lead.
- Record the access evidence. Save the official store or play link, platform, release date and any regional or edition qualification.
- Read the cultural description carefully. Note whether the source says te reo Māori dialogue, language options, Māori concepts, a Māori setting or Māori leadership.
- Check again immediately before playing. Store pages, app availability and project status can change, especially for smaller studios.
- Share the precise category. Tell another player whether they are buying a standalone game, opening a browser title, installing a mobile app or entering a Minecraft world.
Why official pages are the right starting point
Search engines and social posts often flatten important distinctions: a 2019 Minecraft project can appear beside a 2026 console release, and an in-development studio concept can look like a finished game. A developer or studio page is the strongest evidence in this guide for who made a project and which platforms the creator currently names. It also lets you catch changes in release status, language support and access requirements without relying on an outdated list.
For readers specifically looking for “video games set in NZ” or games “made by Kiwi” developers, add a second check: New Zealand origin alone does not establish Māori authorship. Conversely, a game can be Māori-made while being set across the Pacific or delivered through an international platform. Treat place, authorship, language and setting as separate facts.
