Dan Houser’s work beyond Grand Theft Auto also spans Red Dead Redemption and the racing game Midnight Club: Los Angeles. For newer projects, A Better Paradise is available as a novel, while its game is in development—not yet a game you can play.
Which Dan Houser games should you look for?
Houser has worked across several Rockstar series and genres. Simon & Schuster describes him as lead writer on more than 20 video games, including Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption and Bully; a December 2025 Guardian interview says he worked on every Grand Theft Auto title from the third instalment and both Red Dead Redemption adventures. These are team-developed games, so “worked on” or “lead writer” is more accurate than implying he wrote every part alone.

How to find the games on PC or console
Start with Rockstar’s official listings
Use the Rockstar Games Store to check whether a title is currently listed, then open its individual product page before buying. Catalog presence alone does not establish that a particular edition is available for every platform or in every region.
Check PC Launcher support separately
Rockstar’s supported PC titles page names Red Dead Redemption 2, Bully: Scholarship Edition and Max Payne 3. The support list is dated October 22, 2024, so confirm current store and launcher details rather than treating it as a guarantee of present-day availability.

Treat older console information as title-specific
Rockstar’s page for Midnight Club: Los Angeles lists Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360 and flags retired online features. That does not mean each version is newly purchasable, nor does it establish that all online functions remain available.

A Better Paradise: a novel now, a game in development
A Better Paradise is a near-future science-fiction world that began as audio fiction and has also become a novel. Simon & Schuster lists A Better Paradise: Volume One (An Aftermath) as a book by Houser. It is a narrative entry point, not a playable game.

The game set in the same universe is announced but unreleased. On March 11, 2025, Houser told Publishers Weekly, “We are already developing a game right now that is set within the universe of A Better Paradise, but the game will be in development for several more years.” In August 2025, Smilegate announced a global publishing agreement and described the project as in early development. That announcement said platforms and schedule would be shared later; it did not give a release date or platform list.
Absurdaverse: a comedy-satire project, not a released game
In the Guardian interview, Houser described a planned open-world game in the comedy-satire world of Absurdaverse as a “living sitcom.” The interview also discussed animation projects. This is his description of a project in development, not a guarantee of its final design or evidence that the game is available to play.
American Caper: a game concept being explored
American Caper is a crime-fiction property that began as a comic-book project. Houser told the Guardian that its game concept was being explored as a story game rather than an open-world game. The cited interviews do not establish a release, platforms or schedule.
