To find reality shows on Netflix, use Search for a title, genre, or name; the homepage’s personalized rows are only one way to discover shows. To influence future recommendations, rate titles you watch or hide viewing activity you do not want Netflix to use. Use Remove from Continue Watching only to clear that row, and My List to save titles for later—each control has a different effect.
How to find reality shows on Netflix
Search by title, genre, or name
Open Search in the Netflix app or on the website. Search for a specific show, a reality-related category or genre, or a relevant name. Netflix says search can cover genres, names, original languages, title names, and audio or video qualities. If the homepage does not surface a show, searching directly is the more reliable route to check whether it is available to your profile.

What appears can depend on the catalog in your region and your profile’s maturity rating and language settings. A title being available to another member does not mean it will appear for every region or profile. See Netflix’s search and browse guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBrowse the TV layout you have
Netflix’s newer TV layout puts shortcuts such as TV Shows, Movies, My Netflix, and profiles in a top menu. Netflix says the Categories shortcut was removed in that layout, so use Search or browse homepage rows such as New on Netflix and Top 10 instead. The rollout varies by device; if your screen has a different menu, follow the labels shown there. Details are in Netflix’s TV experience and layout guide.

Natural-language search is limited
Netflix documents a natural-language search feature as an opt-in beta for a small group of iPhone and iPad members. If it is available to you, you can describe what you want in your own words, refine results, and send feedback. It is experimental, not a feature available to every member or device. See Netflix’s description of the new search option.
How Netflix recommendations change
Netflix says recommendations use signals including what a profile watches and rates, the preferences of members with similar tastes, and information about titles such as genre, categories, actors, and release year. It also names time of day, preferred languages, device, and how long a member watched as inputs. Netflix says it does not use demographic information such as age or gender to make recommendations.

Personalization affects which rows appear, which titles are placed in them, and their order. Netflix says more recent activity can outweigh older activity; starts, completions, and ratings provide feedback used to update recommendations. Its strongest suggestions appear toward the beginning of each row; on systems set to Arabic or Hebrew, the order runs right to left. These are general descriptions, not a guarantee that a particular reality show will rank in a specific place. Read How Netflix’s Recommendations System Works.
Choose the right control for the result you want
| What you want | What to do | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Find a show now | Search by title, genre, or name | Finds matching titles available to your profile; it is not a recommendation-setting control. |
| Tell Netflix what you like | Rate a title | Provides preference feedback that Netflix says it uses to recommend shows and movies. |
| Stop a title’s viewing activity being used for recommendations | Hide it in Viewing activity | Netflix says the title will not be used for recommendations unless watched again; it also disappears from watched history and Continue Watching. |
| Clear one title from Continue Watching | Use Remove From Row / Remove from Continue Watching | Removes it from that row; this is distinct from hiding its viewing activity. |
| Keep a show handy for later | Add it to My List | Saves it to the profile’s list, subject to availability in the catalog. |
How to tune recommendations and keep track of shows
Rate shows to express a preference
Netflix’s current rating choices are Like, Love this!, and Not for me. Rate titles that reflect the kinds of reality shows you want more or less often: the ratings give Netflix preference feedback. They do not guarantee an immediate or exact change to a particular row. Netflix explains the controls in How to rate TV shows and movies.

Hide a show from viewing activity
- In a web browser, open Account.
- Select Profiles, then choose the profile you want to update.
- Open Viewing activity.
- Use the hide control beside the episode or title. If you hide an episode, Netflix may offer the option to hide the entire series.
Netflix says a hidden title will no longer count as watched, will be removed from Continue Watching, and will not be used for recommendations unless you watch it again. Changes can take up to 24 hours to disappear from all devices. This action is not available from a Netflix Kids profile. Instructions: How to hide titles from viewing history.
Remove a title from Continue Watching only
On supported computers, TVs, and current mobile app versions, choose Remove From Row or Remove from Continue Watching on the title. This cleans up the row, but Netflix documents hiding from Viewing activity as the control for preventing a title from being used for recommendations. Older app versions may require you to use Viewing activity instead.
