How to Find and Manage Installed Games in the Xbox App on PC

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Open the Xbox app for Windows, sign in, and select My Library. Installed games from Xbox and other supported PC storefronts appear there; a supported install can also be listed under Most Recent in the sidebar. To remove a storefront’s titles from the view, open your profile picture, choose Settings > Library & Extensions, and switch that storefront off.

If the game came from Microsoft Store and is missing, check Microsoft Store > More info > My Library. If you only need to verify that Windows sees an application as installed, use Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps. These are separate lists with different purposes.

What the Xbox PC app can (and cannot) show

The Xbox app for Windows acts as an aggregated launcher and library. Microsoft says it brings together your Xbox library, Game Pass titles, and installed games from other leading PC storefronts. The important qualification is supported storefronts: the app does not promise to recognize every launcher, every game, or an arbitrary folder that happens to contain game files.

In an Xbox Wire announcement dated September 15, 2025, Jason Beaumont, VP of Experiences at Xbox, described the current behavior: when a game is installed from a supported PC storefront, it automatically appears in My Library and in the sidebar’s Most Recent list. The announcement says the aggregated library is available to everyone, rather than being limited to the earlier PC Gaming Preview. You can read the announcement at Xbox Wire.

This means the Xbox app is useful for finding and launching recognized installations, but it is not a universal scanner for all PC game folders. A title from an unsupported source may remain absent even when Windows can run it normally.

Find an installed game in the Xbox app

1. Open the app and sign in

  1. Open the Xbox app on your Windows PC.
  2. Sign in with the Microsoft account associated with the Xbox app, your purchases, or your subscription.
  3. Allow the app to finish loading your profile and library before judging whether a title is missing.

Microsoft’s Windows 11 gaming guide describes the app as a hub for purchased games, Game Pass, Xbox friends, achievements, and games downloaded from other PC storefronts. The guide is written for the United States, and Microsoft notes that features and availability can vary by region. See Microsoft’s Windows 11 PC-gaming guide for that qualification.

Signing in matters because the app’s account library and subscription access are tied to the Microsoft account you use. If a family member or another Windows profile bought the title, that ownership may not be visible in your account. Likewise, seeing a launcher in Windows does not automatically grant access to games purchased under a different account.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Open My Library

Select My Library in the Xbox app. This is the primary view for games associated with your account and recognized installations. Browse the list or use the view’s search and filtering controls when available in your app version.

A game installed through a supported storefront should be added automatically. You do not need to create a second shortcut or manually point the Xbox app at the game’s installation folder. The automatic listing is tied to storefront support, so a game that does not appear is not proof that the files are damaged or that Windows failed to install it.

The library can contain several kinds of entries at once: Xbox purchases, games available through Game Pass, and installations detected through an integrated third-party storefront. An entry can therefore be useful as a launch point without meaning that the Xbox app owns the license or manages every part of the installation.

3. Check Most Recent

Look at Most Recent in the left sidebar. Supported-storefront games can appear there after installation, giving you a faster route back to a title you have just installed or played. Most Recent is a shortcut view, not a replacement for the complete library.

If you are looking for an older installation, go back to My Library rather than relying only on Most Recent. The two views answer different questions: Most Recent helps you return to recent activity, while My Library is the broader aggregated list.

Manage which storefronts appear

If My Library contains more titles than you want to see, you can control the storefront sources that the Xbox app lists. This changes visibility in the Xbox app; it does not uninstall the games or remove your ownership from the original storefront.

  1. Select your profile picture in the Xbox app.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Open Library & Extensions.
  4. Find the storefront you want to hide and toggle it off.

Microsoft says titles from a disabled storefront listing will no longer appear in the Xbox library. Turn the toggle back on if you want those listings restored. The control applies to supported storefront integrations; it cannot make an unsupported launcher appear.

Hiding a source is a presentation setting, not an uninstall command. The game remains on its original drive, and updates, saves, licensing, and refunds continue to be handled by the storefront that supplied it. If you later want the title back in the Xbox view, re-enable that storefront instead of reinstalling the game.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the My Apps tab for storefront access

The Xbox Wire announcement also describes a My Apps tab within the library. It brings third-party apps and storefronts together so you can reach the places where games are available. Treat it as an access hub rather than a promise that the Xbox app installs, updates, or manages every third-party game.

For a recognized installation, My Library and Most Recent are the relevant game views. My Apps is useful when you need to open a storefront or another gaming application before launching a title there. A storefront appearing in My Apps should not be interpreted as confirmation that every game from that service is supported in the aggregated library.

When a Microsoft Store game is missing

A Microsoft Store purchase or download can be easier to verify in the Store itself than in the Xbox app. Use this path:

  1. Open Microsoft Store.
  2. Select More info near your account picture.
  3. Choose My Library.
  4. Find the game or app and select its Download icon if it has not been downloaded to this PC.

Microsoft’s support instructions also point to Order history for items that were purchased but have not been downloaded or installed. The Store’s My Library answers “do I own or have access to this Store item?”; the Xbox app’s My Library answers “does the Xbox app recognize this game in its aggregated library?” Those questions overlap, but the lists are not identical. The full Store procedure is documented in Microsoft’s Microsoft Store support article.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the Store path when the issue is ownership or an incomplete download. It is not a substitute for the Xbox app’s storefront-integration setting, and downloading an item from Microsoft Store does not guarantee that an unrelated launcher’s game will be added to Xbox.

Verify installation in Windows itself

When you are unsure whether an application is installed at all, check Windows rather than relying on the Xbox app:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  3. Search the installed-apps list for the game or its launcher.

Windows applications can also appear in the Start menu. This page reports general Windows installation status; it is not a catalog of games recognized by Xbox and does not indicate whether a title is supported by the Xbox library integration. Microsoft documents this distinction in How to check if an app or program is installed in Windows.

A launcher listed under Installed apps confirms that Windows has an application registration. It does not prove that a particular game is installed, that the game belongs to the signed-in Xbox account, or that Xbox supports importing it. For those questions, return to the relevant library or original storefront.

What you are trying to confirm Where to go What the result means
Find a recognized game and launch it from Xbox Xbox app > My Library Shows Xbox, Game Pass, and supported-storefront listings associated with the app.
Jump back to a recently installed or played supported title Xbox app sidebar > Most Recent A shortcut list; supported installations can be added automatically.
Hide a storefront’s listings Profile picture > Settings > Library & Extensions Disables that supported storefront’s entries in the Xbox library view.
Open a third-party launcher or storefront Xbox app > My Apps Provides access to listed apps; it does not promise universal game management.

Confirm that Windows has an application installed Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps Reports general Windows installation status, not Xbox-library recognition.

Why an installed game may not appear

The storefront is not supported

The most significant limitation is integration coverage. Microsoft’s wording is “supported PC storefronts,” not “all PC launchers.” If the game came from a source that Xbox does not integrate, there is no documented universal import command or folder picker that forces the Xbox app to detect it.

Do not move files into protected Windows or launcher directories based on an internet forum workaround. Such changes can break permissions, updates, or the original launcher. For an unsupported source, use that source’s own launcher and support documentation.

The storefront was hidden

Check Settings > Library & Extensions before assuming that an installation failed. A disabled integration removes that storefront’s entries from the Xbox view while leaving the underlying installation intact. Re-enable the source and check My Library again.

The title is not part of the account or catalog you are viewing

The Xbox app combines several kinds of access: purchases, Game Pass availability, and installations recognized from other storefronts. A title can be installed locally yet not be included in a particular account’s Xbox or subscription catalog. Game Pass titles, plan features, supported platforms, and regional availability can change over time.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Confirm which account is signed in and whether the game was purchased, redeemed, or provided through a subscription. A subscription catalog is not a permanent ownership list; titles and plan benefits can change.

Regional or device differences apply

Microsoft’s Windows 11 guidance warns that features and availability vary by region. The app’s catalog, Game Pass selection, and cloud-play options can therefore differ from what another person sees. A missing feature is not necessarily an installation error.

You are checking the wrong list

Microsoft Store My Library, Windows Installed apps, Xbox My Library, and Most Recent are different destinations. A game can appear in one and not another for legitimate reasons. Match the check to the question: ownership and download in Store, Windows registration in Settings, or Xbox aggregation in My Library.

Installed play versus cloud streaming

The Xbox app can give you two different ways to access games, and they should not be confused:

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

One-click scans. No signup required.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Installing locally downloads files to the PC. This is appropriate when you want local play and the storage and hardware to run the game.
  • Cloud streaming starts a supported game on remote hardware, reducing the wait for a full download and helping when local storage is limited.

Cloud play requires a supported region and device plus a qualifying subscription; Microsoft also notes that some cloud-playable games may be sold separately. Catalog, plan, platform, and regional details can change. Installing a game and streaming a game are therefore separate availability decisions, not two labels for the same installation.

No paid accessory or special drive is required to navigate these lists. Game Pass or PC Game Pass can provide subscription access to included titles, but it is not required to manage games you already own or have installed from a supported storefront. Streaming is the option with an explicit subscription, device, and region dependency; local installation depends on the game, your PC, and available storage.

A practical troubleshooting sequence

Use the following order so each check answers a different question:

  1. Identify the source. Was the game obtained through Xbox, Game Pass, Microsoft Store, or another PC storefront?
  2. Confirm the account. Make sure the Xbox app is signed in with the Microsoft account associated with the purchase or subscription.
  3. Check Xbox My Library. If the source is supported, look for the title there and in Most Recent.
  4. Check Library & Extensions. Make sure the relevant supported storefront has not been toggled off.
  5. Check My Apps. If you need to reach a third-party launcher, look for its app entry there.
  6. Check Microsoft Store My Library. Use this for a Store item that may not yet be downloaded, and inspect Order history if necessary.
  7. Check Windows Installed apps. Use this to establish whether Windows lists the launcher or application at all.
  8. Use the original storefront for unsupported titles. If Xbox does not integrate the source, manage installation and launching there instead of trying to import an arbitrary folder.

This sequence separates visibility settings, Store ownership, Windows installation status, and storefront support. It prevents you from uninstalling or relocating a working game simply because it is absent from one library view.

Availability and version caveats

The aggregated-library feature was announced for everyone on September 15, 2025, after an earlier preview announcement on June 23, 2025. The current behavior is based on the later announcement; the preview date explains the feature’s history rather than limiting present access.

Microsoft’s Windows article is dated May 20, 2026 and is specifically written for Windows 11 in the United States. Microsoft cautions that features, Game Pass titles, catalog size, plans, supported platforms, and regional availability can change. If your labels differ slightly, follow the closest current Xbox app labels—especially My Library, Most Recent, and Library & Extensions—rather than assuming that a different screen means the game is missing.

What you should expect from the Xbox library

  • Supported-storefront installations can be listed automatically in My Library and Most Recent.
  • Library & Extensions lets you hide supported storefront listings without uninstalling the games.
  • My Apps provides access to third-party apps and storefronts, but does not guarantee universal game installation or management.
  • Microsoft Store My Library and Windows Installed apps are separate verification tools.
  • An unsupported launcher or arbitrary game folder may not appear, and Microsoft does not provide a universal force-detection procedure for every such case.
  • Region, device, account, subscription plan, and catalog changes can affect what you see.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are my installed games in the Xbox app on PC?

Open the Xbox app, sign in, and select My Library. Supported storefront installations can also appear in Most Recent in the sidebar.

Why is my installed game not showing in My Library?

The source may not be a supported storefront, its integration may be disabled under Settings > Library & Extensions, or you may be signed in to a different Microsoft account. Check the original storefront and Windows Installed apps separately.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I add any game folder to the Xbox app?

No universal folder-import or force-detection procedure is documented. The Xbox app promises automatic listings only for supported storefronts, so use an unsupported source’s own launcher.

How do I hide Steam or another storefront’s games?

Select your profile picture, open Settings > Library & Extensions, and toggle off the supported storefront. This hides its entries in Xbox; it does not uninstall the games.

What is the difference between My Library and Most Recent?

My Library is the broader aggregated list. Most Recent is a shortcut list for recently installed or played titles, including supported-storefront games.

How do I find a Microsoft Store game that is missing?

Open Microsoft Store, select More info near your account picture, choose My Library, and use the Download icon if the item has not been downloaded. Check Order history for purchase details.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does Windows Installed apps show the same games as Xbox My Library?

No. Installed apps reports general Windows installation status, while Xbox My Library reports Xbox, Game Pass, and supported-storefront listings.

Do I need Game Pass to manage installed games?

No. Game Pass is an optional way to access included titles. You can manage owned or supported-storefront games without subscribing; cloud play has its own subscription, device, and region requirements.

Why does someone in another region see different Xbox library options?

Microsoft says features, Game Pass titles, catalog details, supported platforms, and cloud availability can vary by region, plan, device, and time.

The Bottom Line

Start with Xbox app > My Library, then check Most Recent and Settings > Library & Extensions. Use Microsoft Store’s My Library for Store downloads and Windows Installed apps for general installation checks. The Xbox app aggregates supported storefronts, not every launcher or arbitrary game folder.
