To play Battlefield 6 with a friend, add the player in EA Connect, wait for the request to be accepted, then invite the accepted friend from the Party tab. Open EA Connect with R2 on PlayStation 5, RT on Xbox Series X|S, or TAB on PC; search the friend’s EA ID or platform ID; send the request; and use the Party tab after acceptance.
Cross-play is enabled by default on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, so friends on those platforms can play together. Console matchmaking still prioritizes console players. The instructions below follow Electronic Arts’ “How to use cross-play in Battlefield 6” guidance and its Battlefield 6 new-player guide.

The short route to a Battlefield 6 squad
The complete process has three distinct stages. First, locate the person in EA Connect and send a friend request. Second, have that player accept the request. Third, select the accepted account from the Party tab and send the invitation. The game does not treat an unaccepted request as an active friendship, and the Party tab is the Battlefield 6-specific place for the invitation.

- Press R2 on PlayStation 5, RT on Xbox Series X|S, or TAB on PC to open EA Connect.
- Scroll to Player search.
- Enter your friend’s exact EA ID or platform ID and select Done.
- Select the matching account and choose Add friend.
- Have your friend accept the request in Friend requests.
- After acceptance, open the Friends tab, then use the Party tab to invite the player.
“Party” describes the pre-match grouping and invitation flow. “Squad” describes the smaller team you play with after entering a match. Keeping those terms separate makes the menus easier to follow: look in Party for the invite, then coordinate as squadmates once the match begins.

What you need before adding a friend
Both players need Battlefield 6 on one of the platforms listed in Electronic Arts’ cross-play guidance: PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S. You also need the person’s exact EA ID or platform ID. EA Connect searches those identifiers, not a description of the person such as “my friend from school,” and a nickname or mistyped variation may lead to the wrong result or no useful match.
Ask your friend to send the ID exactly as it appears. If several accounts have similar names, compare the result with your friend before selecting Add friend. This simple identity check matters because the request is sent to the account you select, not to every account with a similar display name.
Use the in-game EA Connect panel for this process rather than assuming that a console-only friends list will create the Battlefield 6 friendship. EA explains that adding a platform friend as an EA friend allows the pair to keep playing together when one person is on a different supported platform. Open EA Connect in Battlefield 6
Start the game and use the control associated with your platform or input device. The button is different on each supported platform:

Once the panel is open, select or scroll to Player search. This is the menu location used to find someone who is not already in your EA Connect friends list. If the person is already listed under Friends, you do not need to send another request; proceed to the Party invitation step.
Add the friend by EA ID or platform ID
- Open Battlefield 6. Be in the game with access to the EA Connect panel.
- Open EA Connect. Press R2 on PlayStation 5, RT on Xbox Series X|S, or TAB on PC.
- Choose Player search. This is where the account lookup begins.
- Enter the identifier. Type the friend’s EA ID or platform ID exactly, then select Done.
- Inspect the result. Match the displayed account to the person you intend to play with. If names are alike, ask the friend to confirm which account is theirs.
- Select Add friend. The request is now sent through EA Connect.
Do not skip the acceptance stage. Sending a request does not immediately put the player in your Friends tab or make the player available for a Party invitation. The other person must open Friend requests and accept it first.
Accept the request and invite the player to your party
The receiving player can use the same EA Connect panel and platform control. They should open Friend requests, select the pending request, and accept it. Once accepted, the account appears in the Friends tab.

- Open EA Connect with R2, RT, or TAB.
- Go to Friend requests.
- Select the pending request from the other player.
- Choose the accept option.
- Open the Friends tab and confirm that the account now appears there.
- From the Party tab, select the friend and send the party invite.
The person who sent the request can perform the invitation after acceptance; the important requirement is that the request has been accepted and the account is visible as a friend. If you look for the invite option on the initial search result instead, you are using the wrong stage of the flow. Search is for finding and adding; Party is for inviting.
After the invitation is accepted, the players are grouped to play together. That group is the pre-match party. When a match starts, the relevant in-match term is squad. The distinction does not change the button sequence, but it explains why the menu says Party while the game describes your combat group as a squad.
How cross-play affects playing with friends
Cross-play is on by default in Battlefield 6. Electronic Arts lists PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S as the supported cross-play platforms in its Battlefield 6 instructions. If one person is on PlayStation 5 and the other is on PC or Xbox Series X|S, adding the person as an EA friend and keeping cross-play enabled allows the group to play together across the listed platforms.

With cross-play enabled, console matchmaking prioritizes console players. A console player is matched with console players first, and PC players are used when there are not enough console players in the console pool. This is a matchmaking priority, not a statement that cross-play is disabled. A PlayStation 5 or Xbox player can still party with a friend on another listed platform while cross-play remains on.
For a group that includes different platforms, the practical choice is to leave the default enabled. For a group deliberately seeking same-platform matchmaking, a console player can turn the option off, but that choice removes cross-platform matchmaking until it is turned on again.
Turn cross-play off on PlayStation 5 or Xbox
Electronic Arts’ documented toggle is available on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The instructions do not present the same in-game toggle path for PC, so do not assume that the console menu applies to a PC player.
- Leave any active party, server, or matchmaking state. EA does not allow the setting to be changed while you are in one of those states.
- Open the cog/settings menu.
- Select System.
- Open Setup.
- Find Cross-play and toggle it off.
- Start or join matchmaking again.
Once off, the player can play only with people on the same platform. A PlayStation 5 player with cross-play off cannot use that setting to bring a PC or Xbox friend into the same cross-platform matchmaking party. To restore cross-platform play, repeat the console path and toggle Cross-play on before joining a party, entering a server, or starting matchmaking.

The timing restriction is easy to miss. If the option is unavailable, first leave the party or server and stop matchmaking; EA specifically says the setting cannot be changed in those states. Make the change while outside them, then create or rejoin the party.
Party and squad are not the same thing
Battlefield 6 uses Party for the EA Connect grouping and invitation step. It is the place to bring accepted friends together before entering a match. The game uses squad for the smaller in-match team. Therefore, “join my squad” in ordinary conversation usually means “join my party first, then play in the same squad once the match begins.”
Electronic Arts’ New Player Guide to Battlefield 6 describes working with three other squad members. The guide highlights the practical reasons to stay with that group: squadmates can help with kills, healing, ammunition, and revives. Adding a friend and forming a party is consequently more than a way to find the same server; it is the setup for coordinating with that friend and the rest of the squad during the match.
The menus still matter even if everyone uses the word squad casually. Use Player search to find someone new, Friend requests to accept the connection, Friends to verify acceptance, and Party to send the actual invitation. Once the game begins, use the squad terminology for the in-match group.
Examples for common platform combinations
PlayStation 5 and PC
The PlayStation player presses R2, opens Player search, enters the PC player’s EA ID or platform ID, selects Done, and chooses Add friend. The PC player presses TAB, opens Friend requests, and accepts. After the account appears in Friends, the PlayStation player opens Party and sends the invite. Cross-play is already on by default, so no console toggle is required unless someone previously changed it.
Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5
The Xbox player uses RT and the PlayStation player uses R2. The platform controls differ, but the sequence is identical: Player search, exact ID, Done, Add friend, acceptance in Friend requests, confirmation in Friends, and invitation from Party. Both consoles need cross-play enabled for cross-platform matchmaking.
Two players on the same platform
Same-platform friends still use EA Connect to find and add one another. Cross-play does not need to be turned off simply because both people use the same platform; the default enabled state is sufficient. Turning it off is an optional restriction that limits the matchmaking pool to that platform.
What to check when a friend is not ready to invite
The documented flow has three checkpoints. Checking them in order avoids confusing a search issue with an acceptance issue or an invitation issue.
- Account identity: Confirm that you entered the friend’s exact EA ID or platform ID, selected Done, and chose the intended matching account.
- Request status: The recipient must accept the request in Friend requests. A pending request does not place the account in the Friends tab.
- Friends tab: After acceptance, verify that the account appears in Friends. This confirms that the request stage is complete.
- Invite location: Open Party and send the invitation there. The initial Player search result is not the Battlefield 6-specific party-invite location.
- Cross-play state: If the party spans PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, cross-play must be enabled. If it is off on a console, matchmaking is limited to the same platform.
- Setting timing: A console player cannot change cross-play while in a party, on a server, or after matchmaking begins.
Electronic Arts’ Battlefield 6 instructions describe the normal search, request, acceptance, and party-invite sequence, but they do not provide a guaranteed fix for every missing search result or failed invitation. Do I need to turn cross-play on to play with a friend on my same platform?
