What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
To find a new game, open the Store on your Xbox, browse or search for the title, then choose its purchase or download option. If you already own the game digitally, sign in with the Microsoft account that bought it and retrieve it from your owned library or Ready to install. On a Windows PC, use Microsoft Store > My Library or the Xbox app. The correct path depends on whether you are discovering a game, reinstalling a purchase, installing on a PC, or streaming a supported title instead of downloading it.
Choose the right installation path first
“Find a game” can mean several different things. Use the path that matches your situation rather than searching the Store repeatedly.

| Discover a game you do not own | Xbox Store on the console, or Microsoft Store/Xbox app on Windows | The title is available in your region, works on your device, and is offered for purchase or download |
| Reinstall a digital purchase | Microsoft account purchase history, your owned library, or Ready to install on Xbox One | You are signed in to the account that made the purchase |
| Install on Windows | Microsoft Store > My Library | The Windows version is compatible with your PC and the account has the entitlement |
| Play without a local download | On Xbox, My games & apps > Full library > Owned Games | The game, device, account and membership are eligible for cloud play |
A game appearing in a library is not, by itself, proof that you own it or that it can be installed on every platform. The Xbox PC app can show titles from Xbox, Game Pass, Battle.net and other supported PC storefronts in one place, but ownership and compatibility still come from the relevant store and license.

- Open the game’s product page and read the edition, platform and availability details before selecting the purchase or download control.
- After the transaction or free download is accepted, follow the on-screen installation prompt. If the prompt does not appear, open your library and start the download from there.
Store names and placement can change with dashboard updates. The labels above are documented for Xbox One; do not assume every label is identical on Xbox Series X|S. On a Series console, use the current labels shown on the console itself and look for the Store’s game category, search, owned-library and installation controls.
Search more effectively
Search by the exact title first, then check the publisher and edition shown on the product page. This avoids selecting a similarly named add-on, trial or bundle. If you are browsing rather than searching, compare the category, price and platform information on each listing. A free listing can still have a separate paid edition, and a bundle can contain a different set of products from the standard edition.
Check the product page before downloading
- Edition: Standard, deluxe and bundle editions can be separate products. Select the edition you actually intend to install.
- Platform: A console listing and a Windows listing are not automatically interchangeable. Confirm that the page identifies your device.
- Region: A title can be unavailable in your country or region even when it appears in another market.
- Account: Make sure the signed-in profile is the one that should receive the purchase or entitlement.
If the game is paid, complete the Store purchase first. If it is free, select the free-download control shown on the listing. A general guide cannot establish whether an unspecified title is currently included in a subscription; check that game’s live product page and the account’s current eligibility.
Install a game you already own digitally
Use the purchasing Microsoft account
Microsoft says paid Xbox games bought directly from Microsoft are digital downloads, and the purchase record belongs to the Microsoft account used for the transaction. If a game seems to have disappeared, first sign out of accounts that are not the purchaser and sign back in with the account shown in the receipt or purchase record.
- Sign in to the Microsoft account that bought the game.
- Open your Microsoft account Order history to confirm that the transaction is present.
- On the console, open the games library. On Xbox One, a missing digital game may be listed under My games & apps > Ready to install.
- Select the title and choose the install or download command.
Order history confirms which account made the Microsoft purchase; it is not a list of every game available through a subscription. If the order is absent, check the account before troubleshooting the console.

Owned purchase versus subscription access
Do not use a subscription listing as proof of permanent ownership. A purchased title should be traceable to the purchasing account’s order history. A title accessed through a membership depends on the current catalog and eligibility, which can change. If you cancel or change a membership, the installation may remain visible while access is no longer granted. Check the live listing and account status whenever the Store presents an access or purchase prompt.
What the Download icon means
In Microsoft Store libraries, Microsoft describes the indicator this way: “Any app or game with a Download icon next to it hasn’t been downloaded yet.” Select that icon to begin downloading and installing the game. If there is no Download icon, the item may already be installed, may be unavailable for the current device, or may require you to resolve an account or Store issue.

Microsoft Store: My Library
- Sign in to the Microsoft Store with the account that owns the game.
- Open Microsoft Store and select My Library.
- Find the game in the library. Use the library’s search or filtering controls if necessary.
- Select the Download icon beside the title. Microsoft uses that icon to indicate that the game has not yet been downloaded.
- Follow the installation prompts and wait for the Store to finish. If Windows has just installed an update, restart the PC before trying again when the Store reports that a restart is required.
The Store library is the most direct route for a Microsoft Store PC title. A console purchase does not automatically mean that a Windows build is included; the product listing and your account’s entitlement determine whether a PC installation is offered.
Xbox app for Windows: library visibility versus ownership
The Xbox app for Windows can aggregate installed games from Xbox, Game Pass, Battle.net and other supported PC storefronts. Titles installed through supported storefronts can appear in My Library and Most Recent, which makes the app useful as a launcher and library view.
- Open the Xbox app for Windows and sign in.
- Use the app’s library to locate a title that is already installed or available through a connected, supported storefront.
- If a storefront’s games are not visible, select your profile picture, open Settings, choose Library & Extensions, and toggle the storefront listing you want displayed.
- When the title is not installed, use the storefront that owns the license or the installation control supplied by the Xbox app. Do not treat the aggregated listing as proof that the game can be installed through Xbox.
This distinction prevents a common mistake: the Xbox app may show a game because it is installed elsewhere, while the actual purchase, download and update authority remains with that other supported storefront.

Download versus cloud streaming
Some games can be played through cloud streaming instead of being installed locally. This is conditional, not a universal replacement for downloading: the individual title, your device, your account and the applicable membership or eligibility must all support cloud play.

- On Xbox, open My games & apps.
- Choose Full library, then Owned Games.
- Look for the cloud badge on an eligible title.
- Select the title to start the available cloud-play option, if the console presents one.
Xbox described this owned-games streaming route in an April 2025 feature. Availability and eligibility can change, so rely on the cloud badge and the current product or membership information rather than assuming that every owned game streams.
When a game does not appear
Missing search results and missing installation buttons usually have a limited set of causes. Check them in this order so that an account problem is not mistaken for a broken console.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| The purchase is not in the library | Wrong Microsoft account | Compare the signed-in account with the account in Order history, then sign in to the purchasing account. |
| The game cannot be found in the Store | Region restriction, removal, family setting, or search mismatch | Check the title’s current listing, country or region settings, family restrictions and exact spelling. |
| The title appears but cannot install | Device incompatibility or an unavailable edition | Read the product page’s platform requirements and verify that you selected the correct edition. |
| An Xbox One purchase is missing | It is waiting in the owned queue | Open My games & apps > Ready to install. |
| Windows Store will not complete the install | Pending Windows restart or Store authorization issue | Restart Windows after updates, reopen Microsoft Store, and confirm the authorized account. |
| The Xbox PC app shows a title but offers no install | The game belongs to another supported storefront or is only aggregated in the library | Install it from the storefront that owns it, or adjust Settings > Library & Extensions to manage visibility. |
Check region and family settings
Microsoft identifies country or region availability and family settings as reasons a game may not appear. A title can be legitimately absent from one market, and a family account can hide content that is visible to an unrestricted adult account. Confirm the current region and the family permissions before changing accounts or reinstalling the Store.
Check whether the product was removed
A game may no longer be offered for new acquisition even though an eligible previous purchase remains in an account’s library. Search results alone cannot distinguish a temporary search problem from a delisted product. Use Order history, the owned library and the title’s current product page to determine whether you are retrieving a purchase or trying to obtain a new license.

Check device compatibility
Console and Windows versions can have different requirements. If the Store shows the game but with no usable download control, verify the platform, edition and device compatibility. The Xbox PC app’s combined library is especially easy to misread because it can list games installed through other storefronts.
Restart Windows after an update
Microsoft lists a required Windows restart as another reason an installation may fail. Save your work, restart the PC, sign back in to Microsoft Store, and try My Library again. If the Store still does not authorize the download, verify that the account currently signed in is the one with the purchase or entitlement.
How to tell whether you own a game
- Microsoft purchase: The transaction appears in Order history for the purchasing Microsoft account.
- Console retrieval: An Xbox One title may appear in My games & apps > Ready to install.
- Store library: A Download icon in My Library indicates that the item has not yet been downloaded.
- Aggregated Xbox PC library: Appearance can reflect an existing installation or a connected storefront, not necessarily an Xbox-owned license.
- Cloud badge: On the documented owned-games path, it indicates a title presented as eligible for cloud play; it does not mean every owned title is streamable.
A reliable checklist
- Identify the device: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, or Windows PC.
- Decide whether you are discovering a new title or reinstalling a digital purchase.
- Sign in with the account that should own or access the game.
- For a new title, use the Store search, categories, deals or browse pages.
- For a previous purchase, confirm Order history and check the owned library; Xbox One users should check Ready to install.
- On Windows, open Microsoft Store > My Library and select the Download icon.
- If using the Xbox PC app, remember that its combined library may show games installed or owned through other supported storefronts.
- If the title is missing, check region, family settings, removal status, device compatibility, Windows restart requirements and account authorization.
- If available, consider cloud play from My games & apps > Full library > Owned Games, but proceed only when the title shows the cloud badge and your account and device are eligible.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using the wrong profile: A family member’s profile or a second Microsoft account may not show the purchaser’s order history.
- Confusing a library shortcut with a license: The Xbox PC app can list a game installed from another storefront without owning or installing it through Xbox.
- Assuming console and PC rights match: Always inspect the Windows listing and device requirements separately.
- Ignoring edition details: A deluxe package, add-on or bundle may not be the same product as the base game.
- Treating streaming as guaranteed: Only a current cloud badge and eligible account, device and title establish that the streaming option is available.
- Changing region prematurely: First confirm whether the title is genuinely unavailable in your market; region and family restrictions can explain an absent listing without a Store failure.
What the evidence does—and does not—establish
The documented steps cover Xbox One Store browsing, digital-purchase retrieval, Microsoft Store installation on Windows, Xbox PC library aggregation and the stated cloud-play path. Current Xbox Series X|S wording, subscription catalog contents, prices and rollout status can change and should be checked on the live console or current official product page. No general instruction can guarantee that a particular unnamed game is available in a reader’s region, included with a subscription, compatible with a specific PC, or still sold.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I reinstall an Xbox game I already bought?
Sign in with the Microsoft account used for the purchase, confirm the transaction in Order history, then open the owned games area. On Xbox One, check My games & apps > Ready to install and select the title. On Windows, open Microsoft Store > My Library and select the Download icon.
Why can I see a game in the Xbox PC app but not install it?
The app can aggregate installed games from Xbox, Game Pass, Battle.net and other supported PC storefronts. The listing may represent a game installed elsewhere. Use the storefront that owns the license, and manage visibility under your profile picture > Settings > Library & Extensions.

Does buying an Xbox game give me the Windows version?
Not automatically. Console and Windows products can have separate listings and requirements. Check the Windows product page and the entitlement shown for the Microsoft account before expecting a PC installation.
What does the Download icon in Microsoft Store mean?
Microsoft says an app or game with a Download icon has not yet been downloaded. Selecting it starts the download and installation. If the icon is missing, check whether the item is already installed, incompatible, unavailable or tied to another account.
Can I stream an owned Xbox game instead of installing it?
Some titles support cloud play. On Xbox, open My games & apps > Full library > Owned Games and look for the cloud badge. Streaming still depends on the title, device, account and applicable membership or eligibility.
What should I check when a game is missing from the Store?
Verify the signed-in account, exact title, country or region availability, family settings, whether the product was removed, and device compatibility. On Windows, restart after a required update and confirm that Microsoft Store is authorized with the account that owns the game.
The Bottom Line
Start by identifying your device and whether you are discovering a title or retrieving an existing entitlement. Browse the Store for a new game; use Order history, Ready to install or My Library for a digital purchase. On Windows, the Download icon starts a Microsoft Store installation, while the Xbox app may only be showing a game installed through another storefront. If anything is missing, check account, region, family settings, product status, compatibility and restart requirements before assuming the console or Store is broken.
