Find and install a purchased game on PS5
- Open Games from the home screen.
- Select Game Library, then open Your Collection.
- Choose the game you bought and select Download.
The game installs automatically. Depending on the title, a portion may become playable while the rest of the game continues copying. If the game is not listed, use the missing-game checks below.

Find and install a purchased game on PS4
- Go to Library from the home screen.
- Select Purchased.
- Choose the game and select Download.
The game installs automatically. Sony’s console-specific steps are documented on its official download and add-on page.
Download a game remotely from a browser or phone
Sony also supports starting downloads away from the console. The console needs to be linked or signed in as Sony specifies, and automatic downloads must be configured. If they are off, the download may wait until the console is turned on.

From a web browser
- Sign in to PlayStation Store.
- Select your avatar, then choose Game Library > Purchased.
- Select the game and choose Download.
From the PlayStation App
- Open Game Library > Purchased.
- Select the game and choose Download to Console.
For remote downloads, Sony specifies that a PS5 must be signed in to the account, while a PS4 must be activated as that account’s primary PS4. See Sony’s remote download instructions.
Download an add-on instead of the base game
Add-ons use a different route from installing the full game.

- PS5: Open Game Library > Your Collection, select the game, then find its Add-ons section.
- PS4: Open Library > Purchased, select the game, then choose PlayStation Store > Your Add-ons. Select the arrow beside the add-on.
Some digital extras, such as season passes or in-game currency, may be applied to your account rather than appearing as a separate game download. Check your account’s service list if the extra is not shown in the game library. Sony explains this in its add-on instructions and transaction and service-list guide.

Start with the account that bought the game. A purchase appears in the buying account’s Game Library; being signed in to a different account is a common reason it seems to be missing.

- Confirm the purchase: Check the account’s transaction history. On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Transaction History. On PS4, go to Settings > Account Management > Account Information > Wallet > Transaction History.
- Check for hidden games: A hidden title is hidden from the libraries on all consoles, so check the hidden-games setting if it does not appear.
- Check who owns the game: If another person using the console bought it, the relevant sharing setting must be enabled. On PS5, that is Console Sharing and Offline Play; on PS4, the buying account must have the console activated as its primary PS4.
- Restore licenses: If the transaction is confirmed but the game remains missing or inaccessible, follow the license steps below.
On PS5, only the family manager can see family members’ transaction histories. Sony’s transaction history guide also describes the service list for content such as season passes or in-game currency that is applied to an account but not downloaded as a game.
If the game has a padlock
A padlock can point to a license issue, but access may also depend on the network or on who owns the game. Check these in order:

- Sign in to the account that made the purchase and verify it appears in that account’s transaction history.
- If access comes through PlayStation Plus, confirm the membership is active and that the game is still available in the catalog. Catalog access is not the same as a one-time Store purchase.
- If someone else bought the game, confirm that person’s console-sharing activation is set up for this console.
- Check PlayStation service status and install current system software.
- Restore the licenses on the console.
On PS5, restore licenses at Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. On PS4, use Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses. Sony says restoring licenses does not affect your data; see its license restoration guide.
What console sharing does—and does not do
On PS5, find the setting at Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play. Sony allows this setting on one PS5 at a time. Other users of that console can play games and media purchased and downloaded by the account, including while offline. This shares eligible access; it does not transfer ownership to another account. PS4 uses primary-console activation. Some PlayStation Plus benefits can be shared on one PS5 with Console Sharing and Offline Play and one primary PS4, but redeeming Plus games on another account and online storage are not shared. If the download will not start or gets stuck
Try the queue controls first, then check the console and connection:
- Pause and resume: On PS5, open Downloads/Uploads in Control Center and pause the download, then resume it. On PS4, open Notifications > Downloads from the function screen and do the same.
- Retry from the library: If resuming does not help, cancel and delete the queue item. Find the title in Game Library on PS5 or Library on PS4 and start the download again.
- Check service status and system software: A service issue or outdated system software can prevent a download from proceeding.
- Check storage and network: Confirm the console has enough free storage for the game and that the network connection is working. Sony’s download troubleshooting guide covers storage checks and further troubleshooting, including rebuilding the database in Safe Mode.
If the problem persists, contact PlayStation Support with the error code, what happened and how to reproduce it, the date and time of the access attempt, and a screenshot or video if available.
