Use the Air Alert app, a civil-protection channel that covers your location, and local sirens or instructions as complementary warning routes. Set the app to the area where you are, allow its alert notifications, and use the official map to check displayed status—not as a substitute for an audible warning. If an alert sounds, go to the nearest shelter and remain there until the all-clear or until local authorities issue updated instructions.
Which official alert route should you use?
The practical choice is not one universally best channel. Coverage, whether you need a push notification or can check a page, and whether the service reaches your actual location all matter.

A sensible setup is to enable at least one notification route that covers your location while remaining attentive to sirens and local instructions. Do not assume any one channel guarantees delivery or detects every threat.

How to set up Air Alert for your location
- Install or open the Air Alert app if it is currently available to you. Current store availability and country restrictions are not established here, so check the relevant app store directly.
- Allow notifications, including critical alerts if your device offers that setting and you want them. Lviv Regional Military Administration advises enabling notifications and critical alerts; the effect depends on correct device settings.
- Select the region, district, or territorial community where you need warnings. The regional authority says the app offers all regions and more local selection. Check the live app for the choices and menu labels available in your version.
- Check that the selected area is the one you need and that notifications are enabled in both the app and your device settings. Lviv Regional Military Administration says users receive the signal for their selected area when a regional operator transmits it, and receive a corresponding notification when the operator sends the all-clear. This is the authority’s description of the alert chain, not a delivery-time or reliability guarantee. See its Air Alert guidance.
- If using Telegram as an additional route, follow the civil-protection channel for your actual region and check its notification settings. The cited Lviv channel is specific to Lviv’s notification distribution, not a nationwide substitute.
Lviv Regional Military Administration describes the app as requiring no registration and collecting no personal or geolocation data. These are the authority’s published statements, not an independent technical audit. The app was launched in 2022; its launch announcement said it was developed under emergency conditions and could have minor issues at that time. Where to check the live alert map
Use the official Ukraine Air Alert map to inspect the status displayed for regions and communities. Its page includes red- and yellow-level air alerts as well as categories labeled artillery, street fighting, chemical danger, and radiation danger. Statuses can change while you are viewing the page, so treat it as a live snapshot rather than a stored or guaranteed warning.
A Zavodske city council page says the online maps it describes automatically refresh every 15–20 seconds. That interval is the local authority’s statement about those maps; it does not establish an update rate for every app or map. What to do when an alert sounds
- Go to the nearest shelter and follow current instructions issued for your actual location.
- If leaving home, take important documents, needed medicine, and some food and water, as advised by Lviv Regional Military Administration.
- Inform neighbors and people with disabilities who may need help reaching cover.
- Stay in shelter until the all-clear. If the all-clear arrives through an app or channel, continue to heed any newer local instructions.
The Cabinet of Ministers’ launch notice describes Air Alert as one tool and says to account for additional external warnings. Its English rendering of the Ukrainian notice is: “Air Alert is one of the tools, it is important to take into account additional external warnings.” Source notice in Ukrainian.
