To use it for marriage dialogue, equip it from your inventory and make sure you have also discussed marriage with Maramal; the person you want to marry must meet their own eligibility requirements.
Get the amulet from Maramal
- Go to Riften and find Maramal, a priest of Mara. He may be at the Temple of Mara or the Bee and Barb; no dependable schedule for where he will be is established.
- Ask him about Mara and marriage in Skyrim. Let him explain the marriage customs.
- After that conversation, buy the Amulet of Mara from him for 200 gold. The purchase price is listed by the Elder Scrolls Wiki; its publication year is not stated.
Speaking to Maramal matters even if you already have an amulet: owning one without hearing his explanation may not unlock the intended marriage dialogue.

Earn an amulet through The Book of Love
- Find Dinya Balu in the Temple of Mara in Riften and ask about Mara’s blessing to begin The Book of Love.
- Follow the quest’s stages, which include helping Fastred in Ivarstead and resolving a matter in Markarth.
- Continue to the quest objective involving the long-dead lovers Ruki and Fenrig near Gjukar’s Monument. Dinya gives you an Amulet of Mara during the quest, and the quest also awards Agent of Mara.
This route costs no purchase gold, but it requires completing a multi-stage quest. The direct purchase is the shorter acquisition route if you have the gold.

- Select the Amulet of Mara and choose Equip.
The amulet needs to be worn for the marriage-related conversation it enables; simply carrying it is not enough.

Why marriage dialogue may be missing
- The amulet is only in your inventory: Equip it rather than merely carrying it.
- You have not spoken to Maramal about marriage: Find him in Riften and hear his explanation of marriage customs.
- You are trying to buy an amulet before the conversation: Reach Maramal’s explanation first, then check for the purchase option.
- The target character is not yet eligible: NPCs have individual requirements, often involving a quest or favor. Wearing the amulet does not make every character available to marry.
These are the supported prerequisites to check. There is no reliable basis here for promising that dropping the amulet, repeating dialogue, or using a console command will fix every case.
